Grace Blakely is the main character of All Fall Down. She is very daring and stubborn and she has been through a lot for a girl her age. Her brother and father are both in the military and she is now living with her grandfather in Adria. Grace was thirteen when she watched her mother die in a fire and while everybody says it was an accident, Grace knows it was not. She knows her mother was murdered and she watched it happen with her own two eyes. Everyone except for Noah at the moment, believes Grace is crazy and she was just seeing things because of all the smoke or not wanting to remember the very tragic accident as just that, an accident. Grace has always been daring and that gives her a quality many people look for in a friendship.
Jasmine Roberts, a 12 year old student conducting a science fair project never expected to get so much attention. Jasmine’s project gained national attention that gained multiple awards. Jasmine collected five different ice samples from restaurants. These ice samples were going to be used for testing bacteria levels at the University of South Florida so she gathered ice from the self-serve machines inside the restaurants. Then she collected ice from the employees at the drive-thru windows. In order for Jasmine to be able to compare the bacteria in the ice, she then collected toilet water samples from each of the restaurants that she gathered her ice from. Her project ended up showing results that 70 percent of the samples she tested came back dirtier than the restaurant’s toilet water.
American Beauty, a film that was written by Allan Ball and directed by Sam Mendes in 1999 is a unique piece that demonstrates many sociological themes throughout the development of the plot. The characters strive to portray themselves as the All American Family. They live in a nice house, drive nice cars and seem perfectly normal to the general public, but the audience is allowed to view the deep set issues that plague the main characters; Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey), Carolyn Burnham (Annette Bening), Jane Burnham (Thora Birch), and Jane's best friend Angela Hayes (Mena Suvari). As the plot develops there are many obvious parallels relating the lives of the characters to Merton's Strain
When you sit down to write an I Believe Essay, the first questions you have to ask yourself is, “What do I believe in?” It’s one of the hardest questions to answer. I for instance believe in patience, the power of seeing the big picture, and people’s power to help you become a better person. After you have figured out what you believe in, you then have to pick one of these beliefs to write about. My problem is that I couldn’t write about just one of these things. I wanted to write about all of them. I then realized what all of these beliefs have in common, a single person. I met a truly amazing person about two months ago. She’s taught me so much about life and myself. Once I saw that it became clear that the only thing I could ever truly write my essay on was her. Therefore I believe in the amazing girl who is Hannah Bourque.
Angela takes “only the time necessary to say the name” (47) and arguably Santiago has been chosen simply by random fate; any male’s name would suffice, suggesting in a patriarchal society valuing a women strictly for virginity, all males share the blame. Angela’s appearance versus her reality is complex because while she has undeniably corrupt qualities, an admirable goodness shines through; the narrator acknowledges

I am Evelyn Aguilar, the eldest and only daughter in the Aguilar family, and the first in my family to obtain a degree and continue to earn a higher education. I grew up in a small, South Texas town known as Laredo. This is a town where people do not have barbecues but have “carne asadas;” this is where people are more willing to pitch in money for a get-together than pay extra for any political or academic progression; this is where “machismo” and Hispanic teachings intertwine with American ideals. I lived my whole life in Laredo, Texas, but I have also been fortunate enough to travel to a few places. I have visited the state of Colorado and New Mexico several times, but I have also been able to visit the Bahamas, Mexico, Florida, and Washington D.C.. I am always mesmerized by the sights of each place I have visited, but I could only hope in the future that I may visit places abroad- countries on the Eastern hemisphere.
“Painting is silent poetry, and poetry is painting that speaks.” - Plutarch. As Plutarch once said, painting is poetry because it sends a deeper message of what is represented. Every place has its artists some known some not that known, this essay has the purpose of noting Jessica Monroe, a local artist from the Valley who’s work, on my point of view, should be more recognize by other people.
The opening scene of American Beauty shows a teenage girl lying in a bed, venting her feelings towards her father. In this, the audience sees her in dull clothing and colours, minimal make-up and has greasy-looking hair. As she sits up, her hair falls around her face and she stares directly into the camera, giving a sense of unease to the audience.
