Cruelty to animals can either be the unintentional and the intentional infliction by humans of suffering or harm upon any non-human animal, regardless of whether the act is against the law. So much has happened recently that the US has broken it down into four categories, simple or gross neglect; intentional abuse and torture; organized abuse, including dogfighting and cockfighting; and animal sexual abuse (Fricker). The very first group of people in U.S. history to give laws for animal cruelty was the Puritans of Massachusetts Bay Colony. Throughout the years North Carolina and several other U.S. states have increased of passed more laws on animal cruelty and abuse. For this reason, they put this law into effect was to help the employer if someone came in and stole the employee’s financial information or anything like it. All of Americas fifty states they all pass a law that makes animal abuse a felony. Now talking about the federal aspect of it in the first few months of the new 115th Congress, House members and senators have introduced more than a dozen bipartisan bills on animal welfare, including a measure to bar people from keeping tigers, lions, and other big cats as pets and legislation to outlaw the sale of shark fins in the U.S. (“Kelly”). This is one of the major steps it takes to put a stop to animal abuse and cruelty. Throughout the history of animal abuse there have been several organizations who help to put an end to animal abuse and cruelty. Out of all the groups that are out there to help these three are the top ASPCA which stand for the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was the first organization to help protect animals in 1866 (Staff, ProQuest. Animal Rights Timeline. Leading Issues Timelines, 2016, SIRS Issues Researcher). The next organization to start up was the Humane Society of the United States. This organization started in 1954. PETA People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is founded by college student Alex Pacheco and animal shelter director Ingrid Newkirk in 1980 (Staff, ProQuest. Animal Rights Timeline.
Have you ever heard of an event where someone has cruelly beaten or abused an animal? Animal cruelty is a popular thing that happens all around the world even in places we least expect it. People beat, abuse and sometimes even murder their animals over something as little as them doing something they were not supposed to. In America, there are laws against abusing animals but yet it still does happen. One example of these Laws is the “Buster 's Law”. This Law is based in New York and is designed to increase the punishment for animal cruelty (Iannacone 755). Still, dogs get beat almost to death and starved of food and water and these laws are not hunting every
In America, we come across serious environmental issues about poverty, domestic abuse, ending world hunger ect. Animal cruelty isn’t one of those topics that isn’t being put out there more. We see it all around like the commercials on tv that tell you to donate money to help the poor stray dogs. People don’t see how much damage we can cause to them, but if we got together we can help stop this madness. In the article, Counting cruelty: Challenges and opportunities in assessing animal abuse and neglect in America it briefly says “Cruelty to animals is a crime.” (Lockwood 87). Laws were made for this problem way back. Our laws help keep society in a proper place with no hysteria.Which means people like us should pay attention more to our surroundings.
The first Animal Welfare Act was signed on August 24, 1966 by Lyndon B. Johnson. This is the only law in the United States of America that oversees the treatment of animals in research. Although it is a passed law, it does not stop all cruel treatment of animals. People all around the United States are still disrespecting animals in ways they should not be. Recently, a video went viral of a man kicking a cat in public. The 22 year old man, Andre Robinson, went to trial and pleaded not guilty. People like this should be put in jail, not free to roam the streets, as for they might do it again. We should treat animals the way we want to be treated. Animals are like family, they deserve to live their lives free from suffering and exploitation.
Members of the ASPCA lobbied heavily for animal cruelty and effectively moved the issue onto the legislative agenda. The ASPCA was the first animal welfare organizations to lobby, however similar organizations have since risen such as PETA.
Animal abuse is one of the biggest issue around the world. Many people tries to kill animals, starve animals to death, or maybe beat animals, But for what reasons? These abusers abuse animals maybe because of entertainment, hunting, lab testing, and many more. There are some people who does not intentionally harm animals. Maybe they didn't pay attention to the animals. Then there's those other people who purposely harm animals because they enjoy hurting animals and makes them feel powerful. statistics based on media reports showed that around 1,880 animal abuse cases were officially reported in the United States. Pit bulls are the most common victims of animal abuse. That's when The Humane Society takes place. It protects animals from being abused from someone. In the following paragraphs, I will be presenting you facts about their history, fundraisers, how much money they make, and what we can do support them.

Of all fifty states in the United States, only nine of which is it not a felony to abuse an animal. (1) While a felony may seem a little too harsh for some, I feel that it is a proper punishment. There is no one out there to stand up for these animals and help them fight back, but the law can try. “Every state in the United States and District of Columbia has a law prohibiting cruelty to animals.” (1) I believe that this law should be that anyone who is caught abusing an animal will face time in jail.
Beyond the need to recognize and put an end to animal cruelty for the sake of the animal victims involved, also important to note is the direct correlation between animal cruelty and human violence. Of the 68% of battered women that reported violence towards their animals, 87% of these incidents occurred in the presence of the women and 75% in the presence of their children, to psychologically control and coerce them. Between 25% and 40% of battered women are unable to escape abusive situations because they worry about what will happen to their pets should they leave. For many battered women, pets are sources of comfort providing strong emotional support and 98% of Americans consider pets to be companions or members of the family. Animal cruelty

Humans have been using animals for consumption ever since we have been around on the Earth. As the populations of humans rapidly increases throughout many centuries so has the consumption levels. Just within the last few decades has the awareness for animal rights gained tons of popularity. PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) was created in 1980 and “Focuses its attention on the four areas in which the largest numbers of animals suffer the most intensely for the longest periods of time: on factory farms, in the clothing trade, in laboratories, and in the entertainment industry.” ([->0]) As the knowledge of animal cruelty becomes more popular , will people take
Animal abuse and abandonment are a few of many forms of animal cruelty, and while efforts have been made to end animal cruelty, many animals are still suffering. Is animal cruelty right in anyone’s eyes? You would like to think it is not, but in reality there are many people that just do not care! Any act of violence or neglect perpetrated against animals is considered to be cruelty to an animal (The American Society of Prevention of Cruelty). Animals do not deserve to be abused for any reason (The Humane Society 2)! Animals are not humans; they are helpless and defenseless creations that can only defend themselves to a certain extent (The American Society of Prevention of Cruelty). Animals have feelings and want to be loved, just as well
Before beginning with the issues dealing with animal cruelty, one question for everyone pertaining to this topic should be: What is animal cruelty? Well, Animal cruelty is the intentional infliction by humans of suffering or harm upon any non-human animal. The key word would be intentional. Humans take the issue of innocent creatures that do not have any speech to defend themselves and they intentionally make them suffer and or harm them in many ways such as abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Animal abuse can happen at homes, outside of homes, even in jobs like researching in labs. Humans can beat them until it leads to death, or going without the necessary needs, dog fights, not giving the animals love, also in research, animals can get tested for make-up and medicine. An incident
Animal abuse is an ongoing issue all over the world. 48% of all animals are abused in the U.S. Animal abuse is portrayed in many ways. A cat claws the carpet and it is thrown outside. A dog makes a mess and it is kicked.“There are two main types of abuse. The first type of animal abuse is passive which can be defined as neglect or failing to take care of an animal and keep it in good health and well-being” (Problems). Pets are mistreated if they are disobedient.
Animals should not be beaten, the number of incidents reported is out of control. They need to be taken care of while they are still here. In this research paper i will be talking about the cruelty that animals have to deal with not only in the United States but also all around the world. My paper is also a little about the rights that animals have, animals have rights just like us humans do. The reason why i choose animal cruelty is simple, why danger an animal when it has done nothing to you. I don't disagree with the killing of animals for eating purposes, but just to hurt for the fun of it or because you can't control the animal? I agree that the world needs the meats that these animals have to offer, we all need it to stay strong and healthy. Shouldn't we at least take care of the animals while their living in this world? Why don't we give them the best possible care in their precious Short lifespan. Myself and millions of others believe that animals should be used for eating purposes only, many say they shouldn't even be eaten but my topic will not deal with that. There are to many incidents reported where many scientist and humans with special occupations hurt animals during experiments, I would love to see the end of monkeys, pigs and even gorillas being tested in labs. These animals were put into this world the same reason we were.
Last year, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof tackled the topic of animal cruelty in his editorial, "Animal Cruelty or the price of dinner?" questioning why the public creates an uproar over cruelty towards animals, such as dogs, yet stay silent and indifferent when animals such as chickens are tortured and murdered just to be set on their plate for dinner. The food industry is dominated by factory farming and poultry production, which forces livestock animals such as chicken, cows, and pigs, to be put through torturous living conditions and to endure harmful chemicals used to manipulate their genetics. It is unjustifiable that a video of one dog being scared as it is dangled over a twelve-foot second floor balcony can go viral and produce such public outrage throughout the country, while next to nothing has been done for the millions of livestock tortured and killed each year. People try to justify their disapproval of one animal's torture and their apathy towards other animals, but it cannot be justified. All of these animals have brains, they all have hearts, they all have equal rights.
