Animal research
Animal experimenting is widely carried out to test the safety of products, try new cosmetics and the development of new medicines.
Many of these experiments unfortunately cause a lot of harm and pain to the animals involved in the experiments, or it severely reduces their quality of life in different ways.
A lot of people view testing on animals as morally wrong, which brings in a lot of moral problems.
The people who experiment on animals are usually very aware of the harm and pain they bring to the animals, but do however acknowledge that the experiments should be made as humane as possible, and agree it’s morally wrong to experiment on animals when alternative methods are available.
Let’s first discuss a couple of

The UK has got high standards of animal welfare in laboratories and all research in the UK must be approved by the Home Office. The people carrying out the experiments must also be licensed by the home Office.
There are committees, called “Ethics Committees”, to make sure that the benefits of the research outweigh the suffering of the animals.
Research can also only be carried out if there is no alternative available whatsoever.
The creating of new drugs requires animal research because researches must determine the beneficial and the harmful effects of the medicine on a whole creature. A drug is usually first tested in petri dishes using some organic tissues and organs, it is completely legal and ethical. It must also be tested on animal before you can test it on humans. The data from the animal testing will determine whether testing on humans will be safe or not.
Next in order are some reasons why people are against animal research.
Less than two percent of the illnesses observed in humans are ever seen in animals, which renders animal testing rather pointless. 95% of the medicine that are developed via animal research turn out to be too dangerous for the use on humans and are immediately discarded as useless.
Up to 90% of animal tests are being disregarded because animals and humans are simply not alike enough and therefore tests are very inaccurate and require human test subjects.
Animal researchers very often use
Laurie Pycroft, an advocate for animal rights states, “Humans differ from other animals anatomically, genetically and metabolically, meaning data derived from animals cannot be extrapolated to humans with sufficient accuracy”(Pycroft, Laurie, and Helen Marston). This is just one of the many reasons as to why animals should not be tested on. Testing on animals leads to problems down the road for when it has been approved for human test trials. The way these animals are used and kept is deplorable and inhumane as well. Animals should not be tested on in laboratories because they cannot be used to accurately test new drugs meant for humans.
Throughout history, animal experimentation has played an important role in leading to new discoveries and human benefits. However, what many people tend to forget are the millions of animals that are tortured or killed during the process of these painful, deadly experiments. Many people seem to misunderstand animal nature and the laboratory procedures and techniques that are executed on the animals. The procedures are cruel, unreliable, and harmful. Luckily there are more humane alternatives that have also proved to be less expensive.
Every year, a total of one million children die from pneumonia. If you multiply that number by one hundred, you will have the number of animals that suffer painful deaths due to medical experimentation in U.S. laboratories each year. This number includes animals of all types, from mice and rats to fish and birds. These animals are typically used because of tradition rather than actual scientific reasoning, making their deaths all the more cruel. Animal experimentation is not only unethical, but ineffective and expensive. It should be phased out and replaced with technological alternatives.
Animal testing has been a controversial topic for many generations throughout the world. People against animal testing say that animal testing is cruel and inhumane and
It is not ethical to harm any animal and one must not go against his or her morals. Scientists are often blinded by the negative effects against the animals. They are slit opened, poisoned, and tortured. Imagine being contained in an insufficient amount of area, chances are, you may often experience impaired brain development or anxious behaviors. Pre-experimentation conditions is not where it ends, animals experience harmful scenarios that occur in a laboratory. Often, animals are injected with conditions that a healthy animal may not be familiar with. Species of all kinds experience psychological reactions from drugs that are provided to them. Over the many, not just one, but many laboratories, monkeys are addicted to drugs, cats consist of holes drilled into their skulls, rats have their spinal cords crushed, and many indescribable conditions are forced into animals. It has been identified that an estimated 26 million animals are used every year in just only the U.S for research. Currently, the number of animals dead in experiments is unknown, as no attention is provided towards the issue. How heartless can the society
Animal Testing is uncertain and hard. Animals go through a series of tests are very painful, most of the time they are not even given anything for pain. Some product tests require the same painful procedure on a daily basis over a weeks' time. Most tests on animals cause permanent injury or even death. The tests performed on animals are not always reliable. A medicine that may be safe with animals may not be for human beings. For example, aspirin is toxic to cats, so if we were to test this medication on cats, it would not help to determine if this was a safe product for human beings. One alternative to animal testing is human testing, if we are looking to find out if the product works on humans, we should test them on humans. That case "No
Although, there has been successful experiments with animal testing, the percentage is low. Many drugs tested on animals that were released to humans had serious side effects and killed or harmed people effectively. Some examples of pharmaceutical drugs that were deemed safe for human use were later found to have serious side effects, like isuprel is a medication used to treat ashma - in Great Britain alone, 3,500 asthamatics died using this. This shows animal testing is in fact very dangerous to humans.
Specific evidence points that animal testing should not be allowed; however the debate is also on moral grounds. Several people, about 60% of the population, agree that animal testing should be banned because it is just wrong. To be born into the world on a concrete floor and be made to lead a life with no freedom is worse than having no life. They have no chance to stop the pain or torment, simply because they are “just animals.” Animal activists and everyday people believe that humans are voices for the animals. Therefore, animal testing is considered ethically wrong and people should act as the advocate for the animals.
First, according to Humane Society International, animals used in experiments are commonly subjected to force feeding, forced inhalation, food and water deprivation, prolonged periods of physical restraint, the infliction of burns and others wounds to study the healing process, the infliction of pain to study its effects and remedies, and “killing by carbon dioxide asphyxiation, neck breaking decapitation, or other means.” In the first place, the people in the laboratories are forcing the animals to suffer, without knowing how the animals feel. Animals have feeling too, they just can’t show it to humanity, because they are unable to communicate with human and people. Secondly, The US Department of Agriculture (USDA) reported in 2010 that 97,123 animals suffered pain during experiments while being given no anesthesia for relief, including 1,365 primates, 5,996 rabbits, 33,562 guinea pigs, and 48,014 hamsters. Therefore, we cannot let the laboratories keep using animals to test their items and products, or else the animals will be in big danger. The amount of animals that suffered in pain in 2010 is unbelievable, we can’t let this keep going on or we’ll just lose our precious, fluffy bunnies and other poor animals to. Overall, after reading what is happening to the animals, this is cruel and not fair to the animals that are
Another element on why experimentation on animals is wrong is because, in multiple ways, it is pointless. According to an online article titled "Animal Testing”, the main stated reason that major companies even test their products on animals is because they are supposedly watching out for the safety of human beings. Most toxic products are tested on many types of different animals. Some toxic products that are used are: soaps, detergents, oven cleaners, and toilet cleaners. What is the problem with this picture? No amount of rigorous animal testing could possibly change the fact that many of these products are harmful if ingested or used in a way not intended by the manufacturer. In other words, there is no reason to force animals to swallow any toxic products, when no matter what, they would harm any person if they choose to digest it. Another point, many different types of drugs are actually very useful to
Animal testing is barbaric and inhumane. Animal testing is barbaric and inhumane because the scientist force feed them, and they have prolonged periods of physical restraint, and it could kill them. Animals don’t have a voice, so they get a say of what they go through.
In the United States, over 100 million animals are used for experimentation and testing every year. Most of these animals will either live a lifetime of misery and neglect or face death. A copious amount of controversy surrounds animal experimentation because of the way it is performed. Animal testing is done to test products for harsh chemicals, for medical research, and educational purposes.
On one side, animal testing has contributed to many life-saving cures and treatments. Nearly every medical breakthrough in the last 100 years has resulted directly from research using animals. On the other, drugs that pass animal tests aren’t always safe and animal test do not reliably predict results in human beings. 94% of drugs that pass animal tests fail in human clinical trials.
Every year, millions of animals suffer through painful and unnecessary tests. Animals in laboratories all over the world live lives of deprivation, pain, isolation, and torture. Even though vast studies show that animal experimentation often lacks validity, leading to harmful human reactions, we still continue to use this method of experimentation, while many other less-expensive and more beneficial alternatives exist. Going beyond the issue of animal experimentation being morally wrong, this form of research is also hindering medical progress. Although the use of animals in laboratories is said to be necessary for the welfare and health of humans, people mistakenly believe that this immoral and unscientific method of experimentation is
Animal experimentation by scientists can be cruel and unjust, but at the same time it can provide long term benefits for humanity. Animals used in research and experiments have been going on for 2,000 years and keep is going strong. It is a widely debated about topic all over the world. Some say it is inhuman while others say it’s for the good of human kind. There are many different reasons why people perform experiments and why others total disagree with it.
