Have you ever wondered what it would be like to have a second you? The process of cloning is something that is not necessarily very new but is something that is constantly being researched and improved. Most commonly in cloning the somatic cell nuclear transfer method is used. This is when you take a somatic cell(any cell other than the sex cells) from the person being cloned and a donor egg cell and extract the nucleus from the donor egg cell replacing it with the nucleus from the somatic cell. This fuses the donor egg and somatic cell together and next is placed in a surrogate organism that gives birth to that cell that was created. That is the process of cloning an organism. The world of cloning is new and mysterious but is something that could very …show more content…
One very beneficial thing about cloning is that it can be used for organ replacement which would not only minimize the waiting list for organs, but also there is a smaller risk of rejection from your body. Another is that it can be used to save an endangered species from dying out. Also something that would be incredibly useful is genetic research. If scientists were able to clone people easily and effectively, they would no longer need to use humans and they could solve genetic diseases. One thing that can be very risky with cloning is about 95% of animal cloning has ended in failure due to genetic defect. Clones are a lot more likely to get diseases and other various things like that. Also there would be a lack of uniqueness among clones and violate convictions regarding human individuality and freedom. Clones could be seen as less than human compared with non-clones. Other obvious risks are lack of diversity among clones and faster ageing causing them to die faster than a normal living thing would. Cloning is a process that we have to work on and is very tricky to work with but could be very helpful when done
Some people actually say that we can benefit from cloning. Scientists think that we can clone “geniuses” and advance in society (Utah Genetics). This brings up a very good point. What if we can clone 5 Albert Einsteins?! What if we clone all of the smartest minds to ever exist. Can we cure cancer? I think we can! Maybe we can even stop ebola. Lots of people are seriously thinking about this and how beneficial it would be. But some people can take this out of hand. Some scientists are considering making “human farms” where clones are made and their only purpose is to kill them and take their organs to sell. This is why cloning should not be easily accessible. Some freaky scientists are actually considering this idea. We need to be smarter, we need to be consistent , and we need to keep an eye out for these crazy scientists. And God knows what other crazy idea they have inside their heads. But many people think that cloning can be beneficial to society if it is used
Reproductive cloning could also be abused by people who want to create genetically superior children. Using reproductive cloning you could clone the world’s greatest athletes and geniuses. As crazy as it sounds, this would open up the door to future possibilities of a world where genetic discrimination is the norm like in the movie GATTACA.
There is also overpopulation. If cloning is widely done than that can lead to overpopulation of animals. If there is an overpopulation and animals that means that people may be driven from natural resources. Without natural resources we can't make more clones because all the other clones you made will be eating everything that the new clones are trying to make will need. if we clone humans then there is a great chance of those humans reproducing, then those children of the Clones will reproduce and there will be a larger population which will mean we will have to put laws on having children and on making clones. in conclusion clones are bad thing if we want to keep the Earth's resources and we don't want
Cloning is very unethical. It would be violating the human rights in many ways. It would be violating of the freedom of beliefs and thoughts (Peter Flaherty, and D. Lynn Moore. Civics. McGraw-Hill Ryerson, 2000) Cloning also reduces human dignity. Humans can be sold as manufactured products. If we allow
Animals like mice have been successfully cloned and will more than likely facilitate the discovery for new treatments for human disease. Therefore by cloning animals like mice and then them getting a human disease scientist will be able to do test and research on the disease that the animal has and they can then try and find a cure for the disease and if it works on the animals it would work on humans. Also if you clone maybe 100 mice and they have different diseases you can find different cures for all of those diseases. Now my partner is going to talk about the cons on cloning and explain why the cons are
Cloning body parts has the ability to save many lives around the world. According to the U.S Department of Health and Human Services tently people die a day waiting for an organ transplant. Cloning creates vital organs which can stop people from suffering. People are in that waiting list for years hoping they receive that heart, lung, liver, and or other body parts. Society now has the option to help and create. There will not be anymore unneeded surgeries performed, no more waiting, but
that goes into creating a clone. First, scientist remove a somatic cell from an animal that they
According to Gary Wickman, Human cloning can give rise to certain medical issues. Technically, human gene grows older with age. It’s feared that the cloned individual would retain the age of the donor’s genes. Imagine what will happen if a 40 year old gene is manifested into a newborn baby (Wickman, 2017). The health risks involved with human cloning is something that cannot be sidelined on all accounts. There is a possibility that the cloned individual might carry certain abnormalities, and may die sooner than the standard life expectancy.
Today’s technology develops so quickly that many impossible things become true; the example is cloning technology. Cloning is a process used to create an exact copy of a mammal by using the complete genetic material of a regular body cell. Different from the common propagate, cloning needs only one cell and without sex. Cloning, as of recent years, has become a very controversial issue in society but cloning can have several positive effects for the well being of society. Many people in society believe that scientists should develop a clone human but many people and especially the government are against human cloning. Hundreds of
The most helpful but controversial use of cloning. Therapeutic cloning could be used in a lot of good way. It could help create vital organs, it may be helpful for preventing diseases. There would be no need for organ donors and no surgery required for the second party. The other point of view is that some cells mutate and cause tumors in patients, it is painful to woman, and it is also very expensive. In the article “Arguments for and Against Creating Human Clones” it states that ”Human Cloning can provide genetically related children for people who cannot be helped by other fertility treatments.” In the article “All the Reasons to Clone Human Beings” it states that “ Human Cloning would allow two gay men to take 23 chromosomes from each and male and put them into a single egg to truly have a baby of their
There are two types of cloning, one of them is reproductive cloning which is when a whole organism is cloned and therapeutic cloning is the cloning of cells, organs or tissues. Cloning is when two cells decide or are forced to duplicate into two cells to replicate each other. Cloning can be done deliberately or naturally; and it results in two copies having identical cells, DNA, genes, organs and organisms. Cloning is a common, ongoing, debatable topic among society today. Many people argue about how future scientific advances in cloning will affect society. Most often people dislike the idea of cloning because it goes against their ethical beliefs, or because they are in fear of it ending up in the wrong hands. But sometimes when the
Therapeutic and reproductive cloning can be very beneficial. Therapeutic cloning can be very beneficial to humans. Reproductive cloning is beneficial to animals. Cloning may be the answer to longer, healthier lives and saving of endangered species.
The idea of cloning is useless because it has way more negatives impacts rather than positive. Having someone who is an identical copy of you, made with the same DNA, yet still so far from the Clone. Advances in science like cloning are bad because Cloning transfers everything including diseases and/or abnormalities. Cloning is dangerous because the results are unknown. Something different that is never expected can happen each time. The main reason that Cloning is bad, is because the life of a Clone will be much different and way more tough.
While some believe cloning to be acceptable others feel equally strongly that human cloning is completely wrong. With the state of the science as it is at the moment it would involve hundreds of damaged pregnancies to achieve one single live cloned baby. What is more, all the evidence suggests that clones are unhealthy and often have a number of built-in genetic defects, which lead to premature ageing and death. It would be completely wrong to bring a child into the world knowing that it was extremely likely to be affected by problems like these. The dignity of human life and the genetic uniqueness we all have would be attacked if cloning became commonplace. People might be
There are many positive aspects of human and non-human cloning. Human cloning technology could be used to reverse the number one killer in the United States, heart attacks. Scientists believe that they
