On the sled dog’s journey they stop to sleep and rest, but one of the times that they stopped they got something they didn’t expect. The brown bear acquired a mutation which is a permanent change in the Dana sequence. The mutated trait turned their coat white in order to bland into the snow; this is the reason for the polar bears white fur. A mutation also caused their teeth to become better shaped for ripping apart seals rather than munching berries. Many species of animals have had to adapt to their living enviroments. Some animals such as anglerfish, have had to go through major adaptations by developing a fishing pole like spine, descending from the middle of it's head.  The polar bear has to be able to stay warm in the harsh winter cold. In fact sometimes because they have such thick fur they have to lay down on the snow to cool off so the harsh cold isnt even enough to keep them up to tempreture.

The continent of Africa is home to some of the most unique and fearsome creatures known to man. It ranges from giraffes and onyx to lions and tigers. However, with hunting and changes in environment, populations have begun to dwindle and species have become vulnerable and endangered. One of these species is the African Wild Dog, or Lycaon pictus. The population is becoming smaller, threatening the special species with extinction. It is a unique dog that has been known to run up to 44 miles per hour, and can be seen taking down prey much larger than itself (Creel, 2002). The African Wild Dog is a very unique creature in that it has its own behavior, population, community, and ecological interaction that is being threatened, but with the proper conservation efforts it can be saved for the future.

As stated, the Arctic wolf is shorter and has longer hair, so they can adapt to their environment. This shows that they live in Greenland and in the Arctic regions of North America. Many years ago when we were still primitive, the dog's ancestor was a wolf, but how a wolf turn in to a dog. Neil likes to called the survivor of the friendliest. A wolf is a hunting animal; they are made to catch their prey but what happens when a human influence how the wolves feed themselves. They turned into a dog, basically Neil says that instead of us trying to kill the wolves we fed them. As stated above the arctic weasel uses its preys burrows and fur in order to insulate and prevent the environment from taking its toll on the weasel’s body temperature. The polar bear uses a tactic that involves Rayleigh scattering in order to capture radiant energy that is being reflected off the snow and ice in the arctic environment. The hairs on the polar bears coat trap this radiant energy from the sun and bounce it around allowing its black skin to absorb the heat energy before the excess radiation waves escapes.
