With technological advancement in today’s world, it is necessary to stop and reevaluate the means of which scientific testing is being done. Being a controversial topic discussed for years, animal testing is scientific experiments involving animals being forced into harmful and cruel situations. Scientist insert deathly diseases into animals and they use many techniques to try and cure the illness. By looking at the factors of animal testing, one can see that it is appalling which is important because understanding the flaws of animal testing will help shape a better future for the scientific community.

This innovation has caused much harm to many animals while also hurting the opinions of animal activists around the world. Animal testing is also known as the use of animals in experiments and development projects usually to determine toxicity, dosing and efficacy of test drugs before proceeding to human clinical trials (Biology Online). The use of animal testing has been around for throughout all of history, it also carries its disadvantages as they diminish the lives of many animals along with their unspoken opinion while also having some advantages, and lastly this notion is very expensive (Scutti).

Animal testing dates back all the way to Greek physician scientists like Aristotle and Erasistratus. Greek scientist conducted experiments to understand the anatomy, physiology, pathology, and pharmacology just like our scientists do today. The moral ethics of animal testing has always been questioned, but many cures and treatments have been found due to animal testing discoveries. Animal testing is necessary for humankind 's overall well being, as well as today 's society 's advancement to further the knowledge of the medical field.

Animals used in laboratories dates as far back as the 17th century (Unknown, 2015)6. When I first read this statistic, it was surprising because the amount of time testing has been around really makes one think about the advancements made because of that. Due to the amount of time animal testing has been around, two general groups have formed in response to this. The people advocating for it are commonly part of the science community or anyone that supports what science hopes to accomplish and then there is the community of people who would not want animals to have to endure the pain from being tested throughout their entire lives. In this paper I will be presenting two perspectives on the topic regarding the use of animals in laboratories. The first perspective will show how animal testing is extremely beneficial to the world of scientific research as well as to the world in general. While the second perspective will show how the animal rights activists believe that the animals being tested on should not be forced to go through painful testing procedures.

Each year, 100 million animals die from testing in laboratories, biology lessons, and experimentation in the United States alone. However, modern day animal testing did not start until 150 years ago when physiology became a popular science. Animal testing is inhumane, cruel, and grotesque. It is a major problem and controversial issue in the United States. Foremost, it should be put to an end because it is wrong, has multiple better alternatives, and it should not be considered a valid testing method.

Animal testing, because of its links to animal cruelty, causes many people to question whether it should be outlawed. Without animal testing in medical field, medical research would not have the vaccinations in use today that saves lives every minute. Galen, a European physician in 200 AD, used animal experimentation to understand and comprehend the complexity of the human body. Even in today’s time, the human body is a mystery and things happen that physicians cannot explain or understand.
