Over the summer, I went to an amusement park with my family. This park is not only known for its rides and roller coasters, but also for the animal attractions. After a long day of riding roller coasters, we decided to go see the dolphin show. As we made our way to see the dolphin show, we passed by different animal attractions. The penguins that I once thought were adorable and lively, looked miserable, as they waddled in a dense space. Then I passed by a tank with two dolphins, I noticed that their skin, which was suppose to be delicate and rubbery, looked rough and damaged. Prior to this visit, I had been to the parks many times, but never had I felt the way I did that day. .
We arrived at the stadium and I took a seat. There were hundreds
Imagine a place where you can see your favorite sea animals. Whales, dolphins, sharks, even penguins. Doesn’t that sound like somewhere you would enjoy going? SeaWorld is what comes to most people’s minds when they think of this, but is SeaWorld really that wonderful? Is SeaWorld truly what it’s hyped up to be? SeaWorld claims to be a sanctuary for animals where they keep animals like killer whales safe from the dangers of the world. Well, SeaWorld should really get a dictionary because a “sanctuary” is truly not what they give these animals. Orcas are the main attraction of SeaWorld but they are also one of the animals that suffer the most. Orcas in SeaWorld lifelessly float in their pool with little to no shade from the sun. In the wild,
For my senior project I decided to volunteer or to shadow a doctor I the animal hospital. I’ve always loved animals, like if I ever saw an animal out in the street that is a stray or lost dog I will feed it no matter what. The steps towards my senior project I had to call every near animal hospital and ask them if I could shadow one of their doctors. First they got my cell-phone number and then the receptionist will give it to the doctor for them to call me back about shadowing them. It took time because some doctors were busy with work and all but luckily the animal hospital near Ashland called me back and would appreciate me coming going to the hospital in having an interview on what I need from them for my senior project. When I went to the interview they told me on what specifics things that I want to learn but I just told them that the only thing I look forward is how
The summer after sixth grade, my family and I decided to go on a trip to San Francisco, California. We decided to go to California because for a few years I had wanted to go to San Francisco’s Pier 39. In Pier 39, there were wooden wharf’s that float in the water. They had chains that connected them to the main pier so they wouldn’t float away. Sea lions and seals are free to come and go as they please and to sun-bathe on the wharf. There were mostly sea lions that rested there but some seals. I had wanted to go to Pier 39 because, since I was little I had loved fat or fluffy animals. When I had heard that sea lions were able to weigh almost one-thousand pounds, I got obsessed with them.
On 06/04/16 at 6:25pm, I was dispatched to 190 Dana Ave on dog at large, possible owner known. I arrived at the house, I saw three Chihuahua loose in the front yard. Dog owner Roland Erhardt was sitting on the front porch. I spoke to Mr. Erhardt in regards to his dogs being loose. Mr. Erhardt admitted that his dogs were running loose around the neighbor. I advised Mr. Erhardt that his dogs will have to stay confined in the general area of his home. Mr. Erhardt become belligerent and started to use vaguer language. I asked Mr. Erhardt if he had a state issued identification. Mr. Erhardt stated he did not. I asked for Mr. Erhardt personal information. Mr. Erhardt complied. I requested that Columbus Police Department be contact to verified
As a child I loved going to SeaWorld to see “Shamu” and his performances. It was a magical place where I could go see one of the most beautiful creatures on the planet wave at me, splash me and even do a small dance. Little did I know that the captivity of these grandiose animals is extremely harmful.
What has attracted millions of families and spectators over the years, SeaWorld has recently brought reproach and disgrace. A few years ago, SeaWorld’s unacceptable treatment of their whales and sea animals was revealed and has greatly impaired their visitor attendance. This was exposed in the article, “Has America’s disgust at SeaWorld already peaked?” written by Jordan Weissmann. This particular article caught my attention because personally, I have made many visits to SeaWorld and to hear that the beautiful whales that I have witnessed were treated poorly, upset me deeply. I would have never guessed that such a well known park known for its incredible sea life would ever dare to harm their animals. And as mentioned before, because of this
It’s 2016 and we have people riding on hover boards, a woman is running for president and we have SeaWorld getting rid of Shamu. WAIT! Sea world is getting rid of Shamu? You don’t mean the most bodacious black and white sea creature in the entire world that makes dreams come true, do you? Well I am very sorry to say that this is one hundred percent true. And it’s all because of the animal rights groups that believe SeaWorld is not capable of caring for these animals. When in fact the theme park actually goes beyond the limit for animal care and treats their animals with only the best intentions. Because of SeaWorld’s delicate care for each and every animal, they actually get longer lifespans yet somehow people still believe that SeaWorld is bad at taking care of them. This is most likely do to the recent death of one of the most popular orcas and the recent airing of an incredibly false and biased movie “Blackfish”. SeaWorld loves their animals just as much as orcas like squid, I believe that SeaWorld is more than capable of taking care of their aquatic sea creatures and that animal activists and the “Blackfish” supporters are completely and utterly wrong.
Lastly, the dolphins. I have never met a person who didn't love dolphins. Who wouldn’t adore these sociable and intelligent animals? Like orcas, dolphins swim miles and miles every day while out in the wild, but at SeaWorld they are kept in tiny concrete tanks with nothing to do but listen to the sound of their own echolocation bouncing off the walls back at them. Only in the past ten years, sixty two bottlenose dolphins have died at SeaWorld. Their ‘petting pools’ allow the public to pet, and even kiss
In summary, on 12/20/16 at 2054 hours I was dispatched to 6043 W Roosevelt Rd. (Lucky Dog) in regards to unwanted party with a female subject.
In the Documentary Blackfish, directed by Gabriel Cowperthwaite, the hidden secrets of SeaWorld are revealed, exposing a company that is filled with lies, danger, and recklessness. The treatment of the animals and trainers that SeaWorld has put in effect is not only unfair, but also cruel. Throughout most people’s childhood, they would recall SeaWorld as a magical and amazing place that they have either heard about or seen for themselves. The message being sent across through this documentary is that SeaWorld is not as wonderful of a place as everyone thinks it is, in reality it is a brutal and harsh community, where death strikes often and anyone could be the next victim.
Do you have pets that spend a lot of time outside? The only problem with pets that go outside is having the potential of having fleas or ticks. If you are concerned about pets going outside, then you will need to use an effective homemade flea and tick powder for pets.
Scan sampling allows you to accurately observe the animal’s behaviours because scan sampling is done at specific time intervals, this allows you to get a more accurate result of where the animal is or what it’s doing within the 30 minutes of your observations. However, scan sampling compared to all occurrence sampling, which is where you observe behaviours but not in time intervals. All occurrence sampling would allow you to observe behaviours to put down on your observation sheet but it wouldn’t be as accurate as using the scan sampling method where its more structured, when you use the all occurrence sampling method you wouldn’t know what time or when the animal has performed these behaviours because it’s not as specific as
In our experiment we observed a miniature potbellied pig and the way different food would affect the pig. Naturally the feces of the pig will change due to the different food it is fed. A healthy pigs’ stool is supposed to look dark brown and firm, yet not hard. We closely observed the pigs feces for any changes. It also can affect the pig’s weight and fur color. The way we set our experiment was to determine what kinds of food would affect the pig in a positive way. The environment of the pig pig consisted of being in a stable surrounded by sheep and chicken. However, she had her own space to eat.
Last week I had the opportunity to visit the Los Angeles zoo on a beautiful, sunny Thursday (October 19th). Although I arrived off schedule which left a minimal amount of time to observe primates, I managed my time well. After being told that the larger animals get put away earlier, I figured my first stop would be at an ape enclosure. The ape I chose to see that day was the gorilla. The time that I began my observation was at approximately 3:05. At that time only one ape was quite visible and he was sitting at the front making eye contact with me making it seem as if he is HABITUATED. Next, post gorilla watching, I had the chance to take a gander at the ring railed lemurs at 3:40. These prosimians all had their own personalities which interested me deeply. Lastly, and certainly not least on my journey through the LA zoo, I had the chance of looking at the mandrills which were once classified as baboons. Considering that two baby mandrills were present and only a month old, this was my favorite exhibit to see because of their high energy and randomness of actions.
