Animal abandonment Have you ever seen an animal wandering the streets with no collar, no home? This is because of animal abandonment. Animal abandonment is a problem facing the world. Animals are becoming homeless and there are many causes as well as solutions. One of the causes is pet overpopulation. Some of the solutions may be shelters if they are at the right kind of one and rescuing and adopting. There are many causes to animal abandonment and pet overpopulation is one of them. Pet overpopulation is a problem causing more stray and abandoned pets all throughout the world. A animal shelter is a establishment that provides a temporary home for dogs, cats or any other homeless animal. Although this definition is only true for non kill shelters. Some shelters can only take so many abandoned animals before they start euthanizing. Non kill shelters help find homes for animals that are homeless, abused, or a victim of animal hoarding. A “kill” shelter is the opposite of a non kill shelter, it’s a shelter that rescues animals but euthanize them later if the can’t find a home quickly. As a result these abandoned animals have limited time before they are euthanized. However fostering is a way to avoid kill shelters because it gives the animals temporary homes. In addition to fostering, rescuing and adopting animals from shelters minimizes animal overpopulation and abandonment. Puppy mills are places that breed dogs and then sells them, however these places are considered harmful and inhumane to the dogs they are breeding. Many shelters rescue animals from situations like puppy mills, abuse and abandonment and put them up for adoption. Shelters however provide opportunities and gives a second chance to these animals. Therefore shelters have adoption events to help find these abandonment pets a good, new home. As result as well as reducing pet abandonment, getting a rescue from a shelter could also save a life if they are at a kill shelter. In conclusion it’s important to know the causes of animal abandonment but it’s also important to know possible solutions and how to help the abandoned animals. Animals are being abandoned for causes like overpopulation. There are different solutions to this worldwide problem, like non- kill shelters and fostering and also adopting.
