The article was well-written and it’s a narrative and argumentative article although the author argument appears to be more ethical rather rational. The article begin in an unexpected way which is telling stories about his life he mentioned his grandmother which adds to the argument an high emotional tone but his calls to the reasons are weak. The main idea of the article was understood and it supported with personal experience overall, the article was well structured and the language used in the article was simple and informal although he clearly supported one side of the argument which is we shouldn’t harm animals also Foer ignores the fact animals protein is essential for humans so it seems little bit unfair and biased. Foer appeals repeatedly to emotionally tone, to raise compassion to creatures Foer attempts to inspire compelling feelings in the audience. The article contained huge amount of pathos due to the fact he shares his own personal story about his childhood memories how he admires his grandmother and her special dish chicken with carrot, his teenagers years as a confused teen searching for his identity leading to meeting his wife and having first baby. He sometimes appealed to logos by stating some facts “According to an analysis of U.S.D.A data by the advocacy group farm forward, factory farms now produce more than 99 percent of the animals eaten in this
I think the purpose of this article is to inform other people about animals. Yes, the writer wants readers to change their mind about how they treat and see animals as.
Animal abuse is a quiet epidemic that is spreading throughout the world. The amount of animal abuse is growing and we must do something to stop it. Animal abuse is not putting a choke collar on a dog to keep it from biting an individual; it is not killing an animal for food. Animal abuse is the knowing or intentional "(1) tortures or serious overworks [of] an animal"; the "(2) failing unreasonably to provide necessary food, care, or shelter for an animal in his custody; kills, injures, or administers poison to an animal; [or] (6) causes one animal to fight with another" (Title 3). The majority of states in the U.S. classify abusive treatment toward animals as a misdemeanor. A misdemeanor is punished by a fine of
Being Well” you can infer that the audience is to meat eaters. David Katz spent most of the article expressing how eating meat is unethical. In paragraph 14, he explains that animals killing other animals, and people killing animals is not the same. He calls it “silly” to believe that. Furthermore, if you keep reading the passage, he explains how it cannot be unethical if animals kill each other, and it cannot be unethical if humans killed animals in past history. Katz does not support his view on the debate by stating that back then it was okay to eat meat and get the protein it supplies, but now it is
As a student of Buena Park High School, I am concerned about how this article will impact other students and teenagers in general (¨A Change of Heart about Animals¨, September 1, 2003) The article states that people who own animals have to treat them better, because they are like humans and they have emotions too. In your article, you put out there all kind of studies proving that animals do express sentiments, but one particular study about pigs' behavior was inaccurate. When I read the actual research there was nothing that said that ¨they crave affection and are easily depressed if isolated or denied playtime¨. Although I do believe that the animals do not have to be treated in an inhumane way. This makes me doubt about the credibility of
I agree with what Peter Singer was saying, "yes animals can suffer”, It does not depend on your IQ, ". Animals may not be able to communication like humans that they are suffering, they still can suffer, and it can be seen in their faces, also in their actions.
Each year, the most extreme cases of animal abuse receive media attention. Yet, the animal cruelty problem is more widespread than is reported in the media. Animal abuse and neglect is a nationwide issue, affecting thousands of animals nationwide. Cruelty to animals is defined as the infliction of physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, beyond what is necessary. There is a need to stop abusers from acting in such a horrific manner–preventing the neglect and suffering of the animals. What causes animal abusers to act in such a cruel way towards animals? How are cases of animal abuse being managed, and how should cases be handled? Finally, does the status of animals in society contribute to the rate of their abuse?
It is important to stand up in what you believe in because if I do not I would probably be in jail or something like that. The things that I stand up in what I believe is animal abuse.
Paul McCartney once said, “if slaughterhouses had glass walls, we would all be vegetarian.” There are many different forms of animal cruelty, ranging from labs, to farms, to even circuses. People have been using animals for a long time, they have controlled them for even longer. But despite that, there have still been some positive outcomes from this otherwise dark subject. Some people support the things that are happening to these animals. But others make it their mission to stand up for the animals that are mistreated everyday. Animal cruelty can mean many things to many different people, it can be a controversial topic, with many different sides and stories to it, it has a long history, much of it being good, much of it bad.
As a pet owner, we strive to make the best decisions for our furry friends, as we are their only advocates. They depend on us for everything they need to survive. There are so many decisions we must make on their behalf. What kind of food should we feed them? When is it time to see a veterinarian? These are all choices we make to ensure they live healthy and happy lives. One of the most controversial decisions we are faced with is whether or not to spay or neuter our pets. Some people feel that it is an unnecessary surgery, while others see it as a means to an end for pet overpopulation. I personally feel that in order to make the best decision, we need to be sure we have the correct facts.
Hello Collin, I do not know much about your topic, I only know the basics about it, so it would be very interesting to read your paper when it is done. That being said you are on the right track to lengthen your paper, but for the final draft your are going to have to have it at least eight pages not five pages. Therefore you might want to find a lot more information and if you do not have a counter-argument or a rebuttal you definitely want to add those into your paper. I know it will probably be hard to find positives for animal cruelty, but you have to incorporate both sides of the story into your paper. Also you said you want to make your conclusion to be smoother and flow better, while this is a good thing you should not stop there. You
As a consumer of meat, I find it very concerning that the rights of animals are being violated. Every day across the world animals are kept in small cages and bred for human consumption. For example, in Food Matters; A Bedford Spotlight Reader, the author Peter Singer says, “The case against using animals for food is at its strongest when animals are made to lead miserable lives so that their flesh can be made available to humans at the lowest possible cost.” (179). In other words, when animals are forced to live dejected lives for human
In the article “Animal experimentation up 73 percent, study says” Casey michael claims “the number of animals tested rose from 1,566,994 in 1977 to 2,705,772 in 2012”(par.2).The author states that most of the test done on animals does not translate into humans. There are programs like PETA (a program built to reduce animal testing) which are helping but “17 million to 100 million” (par.4) animals are still being tested on in laboratories.
In October of 2012, a Jack Russell Terrier puppy named Phoenix was set on fire in Buffalo N.Y. The woman who discovered him was attracted by black smoke. She managed to put out the the flames with her sweater and proceeded to rush him to a small animal hospital with severe burns over his whole body and a serious ankle infection. Although he lost 60% off of both of his ears he maintained almost complete mobility of his leg. He still has a slight limp. Judi Bunge, a senior vet technician at Buffalo Small Animal Hospital who had been looking after Phoenix, adopted him soon after he had fully recovered. He now lives with Judi and her two other dogs. "Phoenix will become a therapy dog and continue his work as an ambassador for the
Animals have always played an essential role in many aspects of this world. Some people look upon these roles with favoritism, some with disgust. Animals are considered different from humans by some people because of their behavior, mannerisms or actions. Some animals are used as food by humans and other animals, while others are trapped for their furs. Many times people acquire animals for pets, only to neglect or mistreat them. For many years, the ethical treatment of animals has been a very controversial topic for moral discussion, often in reference to an ethical code or rule. In this paper, I will discuss these ethical issues identified with the treatment of animals as well as exploring these issues from a virtual ethicist’s
