The topic of animal testing is a widely controversial topic that is discussed by many people. Some people believe that animal testing has contributed to many advancements in medical treatments and should be continued. Others believe, correctly, that animal testing is cruel and inhumane. Animals testing should be abolished because it is cruel to animals and humans are different than humans.

Animal testing can be extremely cruel to animals. The Animals Humane Society has stated that animals that undergo commercial and medical testing, frequently are force fed, deprived of food and water, burned, and physically abused in many other ways. Many sources have claimed that animal testing has contributed to nearly all medical cures in the last 100 years. For example, in an experiment where dogs had their pancreas taken out, scientists discovered insulin. Animal testing has allowed some advancements in cancer research among other things.

Many years ago, that argument would work. Perhaps in 1921 when they used the animals to discover insulin, or in 1951 when they discovered the polio vaccine and perfected it on animals. These days there are very many different ways to test cures for diseases and other medical experiments. Scientists can use the petri dish method, where they can actually use human cells. If we are making vaccines and cures for human, we should be testing them on humans.

Animals, such as guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters, are different than humans in almost all ways possible. These animals anatomy, metabolism, and cellular makeup, are extremely different than human’s. Clinical neuroimaging professors have stated that, they cannot find an animal model that can equate to a human. Also, many Johns Hopkins professors that study toxicology argue against animal tested by saying that we, humans, are not 150 pound
