From the soap we use to wash our hands to the newest drug therapy on the market, many people do not think about how products are formulated for their safety and benefit. Using animals for these experimentations usually does not come to mind. Animals are often abused, suffer, and even die during laboratory testing for the benefits of people to make sure medications, household products, newest procedures, and cosmetics are safe and effective for human use. Humans have benefited from animal testing for years while these animals suffer consequences with no positive outcomes for themselves. Even if a product or procedure is deemed successful, these animals are frequently euthanized due to mutations and other effects from experimentations that are inflicted upon them. Even though this is a traditional method of creating products and new procedures, animal testing should be prohibited because it is inhumane, is not guaranteed to predict beneficial outcomes, and there are many reliable, yet cost effective alternatives available that do not utilize animals. Animals testing dates back to as early as 300 BC to gain a better understanding about human anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology (Hajar 42). Companies and scientists have used these methods of experimentation ever since. As a result, over 1 million animals excluding birds, reptiles, and agricultural animals die in the United States alone, with an estimation of over 100 million deaths of mice and rats (U.S. Department of
For many years, the field of science has used animals in medical experiments worldwide, because of this innocent animals are being killed everyday. They are being tested with new drugs, new treatments, and by many makeup companies. Connecticut recently celebrated the passage of the “Beagle Freedom Law”, a law that requires laboratories to work with charities and rescue groups to find homes for research cats and dogs. Animals are being tested so humans do not have to be but animal tests do not reliably predict results in human beings, although animals are the closest thing to humans. Most experiments involving animals are flawed, wasting the lives of innocent animal subjects. Over 100 million animals suffer a year from testing. Testing animals is a lot more expensive than alternative methods and it is wasting government research dollars. Animal testing is not only a bad idea, but it is also inhuman and it should not be tolerated. The FDA should stop allowing animal testing. An animal does not give out the same results on a test than a human would.
Animal testing, also known as animal experimentation, is the use of animals in experiments to test product safety. I believe it is a big problem in our society. Every year at least 2.7 million animals are killed in laboratories in Australia alone and at least thirty-three animals die each second worldwide, due to cruel animal tests. Many companies feel it is okay to test on animals because they are deemed not as physiologically or emotionally complex as humans, but as animal rights supporter, Jeremy Bentham has said, “The question is not, ‘Can they reason?’ nor, ‘Can they talk?’ but rather, ‘Can they suffer?’ and most of the time the animals do suffer.
”More than 115 million animals worldwide are used in laboratory experiments each year” (About Animal Testing). Animal testing has been used since the BC years, and it is used to understand and compare how things might affect the human body. In 1937, a pharmaceutical company released a drug that was poisonous to humans unknowingly. It ended up poisoning many people, and resulted in several deaths. After this incident, experiments on animals became more important in the medical world (Hajar, Rachel). Animal testing should be illegal, because it is unfair, inhumane, and morally wrong.
Everybody also can not deny that humans have tried a lot of ways to improve the life’s environment for laboratory animals in order to repay and respect what laboratory animals have done for humans. For example, humans put the efforts to build the wild environment in the lab room and maintain the breed for them. Or humans just use the animals who have a short reproduction. In addition, humans also attempt to find the method which can replace animal testing. According to Hunts in Forests of Borneo Aims to Track down Natural Drugs, Philip Shenon demonstrated that not only laboratory animal but also the plants can use for experiments, but also the plants can do it too. The tree Calophyllum Lanigerum has been shown to destroy HIV without destroying the health cells in the laboratory tests(Shenon). Nevertheless, these methods which seem to replace animal testing are too new and too less. Therefore, animal testing have created the damage in animals, but it could not compare to what animals test has done for humans. Although humans can not save animals’ rights by banning animal testing, humans try reduce the pain for animals when we apply the anesthetics in animal dissection, “Mice were anesthetized with isoflurane and exposed to it intermittently during the grafting procedure”(Ahn). Humans piecemeal understand the feeling of laboratory animals, so humans will never stop finding a new method in order to create the benefit for animals and good effect for animal testing.
It is estimated that each year over 100 million animals in the United States are used for animal testing (ProCon.org, 2017). This is unlikely an underestimate as it is impossible to receive a correct count worldwide. Thousands of animals are to be euthanized from the complications they endure from testing. Animals are used to test scientific developments and commercial products. New medical and non-medical experiments are tested on animals to verify the harmfulness of new medications or the safety of a product that will be used on humans. Although the importance of animal testing brings more medical advancement over the years using fewer humans in experiments, it is still an expensive way of researching inaccurate results and at the same time, it is a practice of animal cruelty.
Protesting has been going around the world for many of years. Throughout many years of people boycotted agents a situation they believe, if a wrong or right. One of the biggest areas on where people gather around and protest is when they’re fighting agents animals testing. As well as the years has pasted on protesting on animals, it became more sires in increased in the 1960’s and 1970’s. Many cosmetics companies been testing on animals throughout the years there is also many that have not. The cosmetics line LUSH has been fighting over animals testing for over thirty years and will continue to fight for their right according to the company. When LUSH had first started the company had divided they didn 't ever wanted to test their product on animal. Not only fighting agents animals testing LUSH is also ego friendly; everything they use its plants, oil, and recycle. Since LUSH having to be agents animal testing, policies had created to work with the companies of cosmetics to end the cruelty of animals. The LUSH company say “ This can be done without animal testing …” and it true. LUSH is a company that all there product dills with ones skin to make them fell and look beautiful. If LUSH can test their products other than animals and still make your still looking good then, other cosmetics companies can do the same.
Animal testing is taking living animals to “test new drugs to infecting with diseases, poisoning for toxicity testing, burning skin, causing brain damage, implanting electrodes into the brain, maiming, blinding, and other painful and invasive procedures”(“Harm and suffering”). Those in favour of animal testing believe that human beings and animals share similar illness, and thus animals can serve as valid models for studying human illness. They also contend that it can develop and find medical treatments to treat diseases. However, there are studies that reveal that the research based on animals are inaccurate, and the treatment of the animals at times are inhuman. In essence, animal testing should be banned because it is unethical to kill or harm animals for human’s own goods, will cause more harm than good, animal and human are different which the tests are not relevant to human and there are other techniques that can replace animal testing.
Animal testing is using non-human animals to be test subjects in an experiment. Scientist use animals to try and help find cures for different diseases and cancers in humans. People are against animal testing because everyday animals are dying in a science lab. The laboratory is a cruel place for a innocent animal. The world should be against animal testing because, Animals are different from humans, it can be wasteful if the experiment does not work, alternatives can be used instead of animals and it is extremely inhumane
As the number of animals being used in animal testing goes up, many people pose a concern about the subject. There are around 100 million animals that are killed in the United States each year alone in animal testing (“Experiments”). These animals are tested for medical training, chemical, drug, food, cosmetics, biology lessons, and even curiosity driven experiments Animals including cats, dogs, rats, guinea pigs, monkeys, and many others are used. Alternative testing options are ways that scientists can still study and research different things while also saving the lives of animals that are used in animal testing everyday. Even though many people depend on animal testing to discover different cures
Throughout the years, animal testing has played an essential role in leading to breakthrough discoveries in medicine, products, and cosmetics. Animal testing has been around since the fifth century in order to aid in studying the human body. Ever since, it has become the primary method for medical and scientific research; however, animal testing also raises several concerns. When it comes specifically to testing on animals, there is a chance the test results could be unreliable since they are inaccurate, which can not only waste money, but can delay the process for important cures and products. Each year across the United States hundreds of animals die from undergoing painful experiments to better improve the medical field. Although many great discoveries have come out of animal experimentation, alternative methods should be regulated due to the lack of results, high costs, and moral judgement.
Every year more than 100 million animals are killed in laboratories from animal testing (“Overview”). Animals such as mice and cats are used to test various products, which can lead to physical and psychological distress. Animal testing is inhumane and inefficient. Animal testing is a scientific experiment in which products such as cosmetics, foods and drugs are tested on animals although these products have no value to animals. During these “experiments” animals can be force fed, exposed to radiation and toxic gases or forced to endure alarming situations that can cause anxiety or depression.
Every year in the United States approximately 26 million animals are used for scientific and commercial testing. The animals are used for a variety of reasons such as, to develop medical treatments, determine the toxicity of medications, check the safety of products intended for human usage and, other biochemical, commercial, and health care uses. Ever since 500 BC, animals have been used for testing. Animal testing has had many positive outcomes; it enabled the development of many lifesaving treatments for animals and humans. There has yet to be found an alternative for testing and researching a living organism, however many people consider animal testing is harsh and inhuman. Furthermore, animals and humans are different so, the results of
Consumers buy products most commonly from brands that they feel provide the best quality. They are also counting on the products to be safe. For example beauty products should not be harmful to the area it is being applied on, and hair dyes should not cause other reactions other than coloring the consumer 's hair. For companies, these are big concerns on their hands to avoid bad reputation, lawsuits, etc. There are many ways these products can be cleared and called safe. What a lot of buyers do not see is that the most commonly used method to check our products is by harming the lives of various animals. Animal testing should not be a permissible testing method that is used in the clinical and cosmetic world of products and
"There will come a day when such men as myself will view the slaughter of innocent creatures as horrible a crime as the murder of his fellow man- Our task must be to free ourselves- by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature and its beauty." -Albert Einstein (1879-1955). Animal testing is an issue in today 's general public that, regardless if anybody understands it, does influence each of us. Is some some testing needed by law? Medical advances, for example, transplants, antibodies, and drugs were all tried on animals before they were utilized on people. However, does government law guarantee that creatures utilized as a part of examination and testing are dealt with compassionately? Today
It is estimated that over one hundred million animals are killed each year because of animal testing. The term “Animal Testing” refers to experimentation which takes place before human clinical trials to determine the dosing, toxicity, and efficacy of products for humans. This includes animals being tested for medical research, cosmetic products, and curiosity-driven experimentation. Many times this leads to animals being treated inhumanly and has led to serious controversy in whether or not animal testing is actually effective. In fact, many studies show that testing animals is not a direct analogy for impacting humans, it also kills an unprecedented amount of animals, and throughout the years scientists have found alternative methods for creating beneficial products for humans.
