Animal Testing is Animal Cruelty
The way I look at animal testing is a form hateful cruelty. None of these people care about if it hurts or kills the animals. The cruelty has been going on long enough and I think it is time to stop. What people do not know is that animal’s react a different way to drugs as humans do, so scientist cannot apply the results to humans. Many animals go through screaming, unbearable, horrific; you cannot even imagine pain when they go through test for products that you use every day such as: Cosmetics, Household Products, Medical Products, even Iams dog products. Some well-known animals that are use for testing are: cats, dogs, mice, rats, hamsters, guinea pigs, gerbils, sheep, llamas, cattle, owls, deer,

One of the favored uses of the human face in today’s world is Botox, smoothes out frown lines and gets rid of wrinkles. Before Botox is sent to the world it goes through some animal tests, and it is the same test that has been used for years. Scientists inject Botox into mice until they find the right amount of dose, which kills half of the mice (Gaul, Gilbert M. #). The scientists were giving the lethal dose to these animals, which is illegal. A new legislation was passed, Interagency Coordinating Committee on the Validation of Alternative Methods, or ICCVAM. ICCVAM is a federal panel that is a little slow but, it finds new alternatives besides horrible animal tests. Other people are talking about how Europe has outlawed animal testing and have found lots of alternatives for testing methods. The executive director of the U.S. panel, William S. Stokes, said in a statement that his group "has successfully reviewed over 185 test methods" and that the four alternatives it has endorsed "have significantly reduced the number of animals required for safety assessments, and provided for improved welfare of animals used in safety evaluations." One alternative has saved "at least 36,000 animals annually," Stokes said (Gaul, Gilbert M. #). These test methods are saving a lot of animals lives, some animals would like to
Is animal testing a cruelty an experiment in cruelty. There are many good things that come from animal testing, but there are also a lot of bad things. From animal testing, researchers find medicines that help many people. Also, researchers see if drugs are safe to use on humans, and if they work. However, many animals are killed and kept in captivity and will never be free. Also, animals and humans are not the same, so some drugs that work on animals may be harmful for humans. Animal testing is cruel because it is bad on animals, it is expensive, and many animals are killed or are never the same.
Imagine this, you and a big group of people are stuck in the desert and there's no water in sight. You send a young man to look for water in the burning hot sun.He finds a lifesaving amount of water miles from everyone else .Then he brings it back to the people saving their lives but risking his own.Even though the man's life was risked, you saved more people than you hurt. This is what animal testing does.Animal testing saves thousands of lives every single day.
This paper addresses animal activists who strongly believe that animal testing is cruel and inhumane act. My audiences are already aware of the situation where tremendous amount of animals are harmed and some even killed from animal testing and experiments. Since they lean towards the side of arguments that disapproves animal testing, my purpose of writing this essay is to at least let my primary audiences to understand and accept the fundamental reasons for conducting animal testing.
Many animals involved in animal testing endure horrible conditions and are exposed to poisonous fumes. Many activist believe that animal testing is an outdated and unethical way as shown in the quote, “Animal testing for cosmetics is an outdated practice and does not provide the most reliable results regarding the safety, performance, or possible reactions” (Cole). During many of these tests animals are not sedated and put through enormous amounts of pain. Many people argue that animals testing for cosmetics should be illegal in more parts of the world is backed up by the quote, “ Cosmetic animal testing is still legal in 80% of the world and an estimated 300,000 animals die each year in cosmetic animal tests in China alone” (Cole). With the new kinds of technology cosmetic animal testing is outdated and there are many other
Each year, “more than 100 million animals are killed in U.S. laboratories for biology lessons, medical training, curiosity-driven experimentation, and chemical, drug, food, and cosmetics testing.” There are all types of animals that are used to do these experiments. Animal testing is inhumane and cruel, and causes pain to living creatures. Also, the reaction of drug in an animal 's body can be very different from a human 's body. An important thing about animal testing is that it can be very costly and unnecessary. Testing on animals should not be permitted because it is causing unnecessary harm to a living animal.
There are hundreds of people who are against the testing of laboratory animals for any type of research, whether it is beneficial to human lives or not. They do not support the abuse and neglect that the animals tolerate while in the laboratory. People want companies to find alternatives to testing products on animals. There has been a group formed called the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) who has begun proposing that companies who are testing vertebrate animals should follow a system. This system would help to cause no more than momentary or slight pain to the animals (Virginia 1). “Alternatives are procedures that follow ‘the three R’s’: Refine existing test methods, Reduce animal usage, or Replace animals as test systems” (Virginia 1). Other steps have been taken by companies to help reduce the usage of animals for testing purposes. In 1979, Revlon Cosmetics was one of the first large companies to fund research alternatives with a $750,000 contribution to Rockefeller University (Stevens). “Several organizations such as the John Hopkins Center for the Alternatives to Animal Testing (CAAT), the International Foundation for Ethical Research, the Cosmetic, Toiletry, and Fragrance Association followed suit and started their own programs to validate alternatives”
Imagine being a rabbit; a vertebrate and warm blooded species. Hopping around an open field and eating all greens. All of sudden, you were captured by an unknown human. You start to rattle around your cage figuring out how to escape. About “twenty-five million and 30 million” animals are exploited in experiments; “half are only used through education” (Donna 7).
Many people have animals around the world, whether it be dogs, cats, reptiles, birds, even horses and llamas, and they all love them very much. A lot of people will do anything to ensure the comfort and safety of their companion and friend. Many people may be shocked and horrified to find that over 100 Million animals die each year due to animal testing. This essay will go into more detail about some reasons why people might find animal testing wrong, and some reasons why a lot of people see it as a good thing. While most believe that animal testing is important for medical research, some people think it is wrong because it’s been shown that less than 8% of all animal test results actually contain profitable data and that over 100 million
Throughout history, animals have repeatedly been used for testing for biomedical research, food, transportation, and as a companion. Animal experimentation has played a significant role in leading to new findings, human advantages, and many medical advances that have helped us in the past decades (i.e., several diseases). While most argue that animal testing is necessary, others say it should not be accepted and causes suffering to innocent animals because the balance between the rights of animals and their use in medical research is a delicate issue with huge societal assumptions. However, the pros outweigh the cons, as scientific experiments on animals are necessary to advance medical and biological knowledge. Animal testing is, and will be, a critical stage for the medical and biological research.
Using Animals for testing is wrong and should be banned. They should be entitled to the rights we have. Every day humans are using defenseless animals for cruel and most often useless tests. The animals cannot fight for themselves therefore we must. There should be stronger laws to protect them from laboratory experiments.
When people experiment on animals that is characterized to be very unethical for the safety of the animals being tested on. In that substance, a cosmetic company using animals such as rabbits to test the irritancy levels of its products eyes for the purposes of making nonirritating cosmetics for women who will use such products is by far unethical and wrong. Because treatment brings pain and discomfort to the animals in testing. I also support the moral idealism that “humans do not have the right to capture animals against their will and subject them to life-threatening experiments” (Neu, 2012). I feel that all animals should be given a full and healthy life and not be mistreated in any way. And using rabbits or any creatures for testing for
Right this second, millions of animals are in cold empty cages waiting to be put out of their pain and misery. Around the country, animal testing trials are going on right now, as we speak. Many do not consider that those animals that are tested on are not taken care of properly, when animals are in pain and scared, they give off negative results, but most importantly, people and animals are different, which creates inaccurate results. PETA is an organization to help protect animals against cruelty. On their website it states, “The only U.S. law that governs the use of animals in laboratories—the Animal Welfare Act—allows animals to be burned, shocked, poisoned, isolated, starved, forcibly restrained, addicted to drugs, and brain-damaged” (“Animal testing is bad”, n.d., para. 21). We do not protect our animals as well as we should, but on top of that, these animals
In 2004, the FDA noted that 92% of experimental drugs that were shown to be safe and effective in animal tests failed to proceed to the market because they were found to be dangerous and unsafe in human trials. When it comes to animal testing, most people would like to believe that is a necessary evil, but is it? For it to be necessary, it would also have to accurate. Unfortunately, using an animal model instead of a human body is a very inaccurate indicator of how the human body will react. Because of this using animals in biomedical research results in inaccurate data, misleading findings, and unfit drugs.
Innocent animals are thrust into the horrors of war every battle humans create. These non-human creatures are cruelly experimented with excruciating weapons, used as “meat shields” to protect soldiers, and fight for no cause. The use of these animals is inhumane and atrocious. Animals should not be used for war as long as the military's current methods of experimentation, speciesism, and involuntary usage of the animals are to be continued.
“Beauty without cruelty” is the outcry that can be heard from animal right activists around the world. The FDA does not require companies to perform tests on animals but if the cosmetic product contains chemicals that can be seen as toxins, testing becomes a necessity. There are currently thirteen safety tests that are performed on animals.
