It is very important to see your doctor if you experience problems with your ankle. He will determine if it is a sprain or something more severe.
Sprained ankles are one of the most common injuries in sports that many athletes experience. For football players, this may be when a receiver runs with the ball and tries to juke the opposing team but lands on the wrong side of his foot and it becomes twisted. For the basketball athlete, it may be even more common to suffer from a sprained ankle. I cannot stress enough how many times high school basketball players wear an ankle brace because of having a sprained ankle.
A twenty-one year old female, basketball player experienced an ankle sprain by accidentally stepping on another player’s foot. The player was going up to make a shot landed on the opponents foot when she came back down, which made her ankle invert. The head athletic trainer evaluated her then taped her ankle to provide support and keep the swelling to a minimum at that time, so the player could return to play. Immediately after the game, the player’s ankle was iced down to control the swelling and was receiving NSAID’s to help with the pain or discomfort she was feeling. The player was referred to the team physician for x-rays and MRI to help rule out fractures. Treatment was started to help relieving the swelling and pain.
REST-make sure the leg is still in a single position and for you to avoid any type of physical activities.
Both professional sports players and amateurs can claim for an ankle injury sustained during practice or a match. You can claim from another player if they are responsible for your injury, from a negligent supervisor or trainer,
A sprain occurs when someone overstretch or split a ligament by rigorously pressuring a ligament and cause pain and swelling in a joint. In the hand, the injury frequently take place on individual who is landing on an outstretch hand during a fall which can cause fracture in the wrist. Thumb fracture happens on individual who overextend the ligament when doing some sports activities such as playing softball or racquet sport. In general, individuals with a radial sprain will have limited function in the affected joint due to pain and swelling. Other symptoms may include bruising, a “pop” may hear or feel at the time of the injury. Causative factors to sprains consist of poor conditioning that cause muscles to become weak, improper warm-up before
What is the difference between a fractured or a sprained ankle? Are the treatments the same? Many factors play into how and why an individual gets an ankle injury. These factors are either avoidable or inescapable. Even though ankle injuries and instability are highly common amongst individuals and athletes, the severity and factors of each case determine the level of treatment necessary for repair and rehabilitation. Treatments for ankle instability are dependent upon the individual’s personal conditions, injuries, and environment.
Ankle injuries are one of the most common injuries in basketball.1 Ankle sprains—the stretching or tearing of ligaments in the ankle—are the most common type of ankle injury and can range in severity. In an Australian basketball study in which over 10,000 participants were surveyed and 40 ankle injuries were documented, 45.0% of these injuries occurred during the landing of a jump.1 Half of these were from landing on the wooden court and the other half were from landing on another player's foot.1 (Other less frequent causes of ankle injuries in basketball include sudden changes in direction, collisions, tripping, and falling.)
Great interventions. Ankle sprains can be very painful regardless the degree. Administer pain medication and prevent weight-bearing can be very helpful. “The importance of allowing the ligaments to heal, regaining full range of motion, strength, and balance prior to returning to activity must be emphasized to patients” (Chinn & Hertel, 2010). Crutches and immobilized the affected ankle site are out most important interventions to provide comfort and to promote healing. It would be important to teach these patients to elevate their leg when they sit down for good blood circulation. Also, they have to be taught if the pain is nor reduce and the swelling is not decreased with seven days to seek medical intervention
A sprained ankle left unprocessed before strenuous activity may have the succeed complications such as: chronic pain, ankle joint instability and contemporary arthritis in the joint. While getting checked, the doctor may try to find any points of tenderness and if there is any pain when in normal range of motion in the sprained area. The doctor may recommend that the injury should go through some imaging scans to tell if there maybe a brake or torn muscle. The imaging scans that are highly recommended are X-Rays and MRIs. When having an X-Ray, the body will have a small amount of radiation going or passing through to make an image of the bones structure held within skin. The MRI (Magnetic resonance Imaging) uses radio waves, plus a strong magnetic field to create an exact and thorough image of the internal structure with includes the soft tissue as well. When it comes to treatment it all depends on the intensity of the pain and injury to do self-care or by the
Sports injuries are a serious thing among teenage athletes and can affect them in numerous ways. It affects both them the players and their teammates, because there is a shortage of a player. The biggest problem that all athletes face is getting injured in the sports they are playing especially high school sports. When you are playing a sport the last thing on your mind is to get injured and get out of the game. Your alternative goal is to scored and beat your opponent. Sports injuries are serious in school because they are not being watched or taken in serious considerations. They are taken for granted and not particularly paid attention to. Injuries are one of the dangers in playing a sport. It prevents you from playing for a while or sometimes never. The absolute way to bring an injured player back to his or her feet again is by curing them and the prevention method or methods of avoiding getting injured again. Heeling the injured players might help them get back on their feet but most of the times after been heeled they are not able to do what they used to do before at a 100% they get more injured and because they might have to stay away or prevent doing certain things . Therefore because of injuries, numerous players miss out on their favorite sport they like to play.
Sprains to the ankle and knee are common soccer injuries that happen to both men and women. “A sprain is a stretching or tearing of ligaments. . .The most common location for a sprain is in your ankle.” (“Sprains and Strains”) Playing on uneven surfaces, landing on another player’s foot, and playing in ill-fitting footwear can cause ankle sprains. Sprains in the knee are usually ACL sprains, medail collateral ligament (MCL) sprains, and posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) sprains. ACL sprains are caused by suddenly slowing down or changing direction, piviting on a planted foot, landing from a jump incorrectly, or suddenly stopping. ("ACL Injury") MCL sprains are caused by impact to the outside of the knee when the knee is slightly bent, twisting one 's knee, or quick turns on a planted foot. ("Medial Knee") PCL sprians
Ankle pain is associated with different conditions such as arthritis, a sprain or other injury, and any number of more elusive causes.
Now that the warmer weather has arrived, more and more people are getting active outside. With spring sports, strenuous exercises, and other workout routines starting, springtime is when many injuries occur. One of the most common areas susceptible to injuries during the spring is the ankle. If you have ever been active or participated in a sport, you may have ‘twisted’ your ankle once, if not multiple times. However, when the ankle swells and causes pain or discomfort, it can be difficult to tell whether the ankle is sprained, strained, or broken. All three of these common ankle injuries are not easy to differentiate, but it is critical that the proper medical care is received if the injury is severe or if the ankle is fractured.
While waiting for help to arrive, you can take some actions to prevent any further injury from occurring. The first step is to stop any bleeding. Next, immobilize the injured area by applying a splint, but do not try to push the bone back in place, because that will cause further injury. Apply ice packs to relieve swelling and pain,
