That night, Anne couldn’t sleep. Her mind was clogged with too many thoughts. The door seemed odd. It had radiated a sort of power that Anne had never felt before. She kept tossing and turning in bed, unable to calm down enough to sleep. Anne sat up in bed, and turned her head. Her eyes rested on her lamp, which had been there since they had moved in. This time, however, it seemed different. She held her hand up to touch it, just like she had with the door. A certain power seemed to intensify, although it might have just been the heat. For a split second, Anne thought she saw a bear etched in the silver base, but when she blinked, it was gone. The girl lay back to rest, her thoughts more tangled than ever. Hours passed. Anne checked her clock.
She has carved a pathway where other young, old, married, or single black women have a direction where they can follow her lead to unimaginable distances.
The play of Anne Frank tells the story of Anne and how her family survived the time they did in the Holocaust. In this play, Anne and her family move to an annex along with some of their friends where they have trouble getting along at first, but as the play goes on they begin to adjust. While the play of Anne frank is the story of a teenage girl’s life during the Holocaust, the book of Night is the story of Elie Wiesel who is a teenage boy’s life during the Holocaust. In Night Elie lives in the concentration camps and must work while receiving small rations of food. Although the play of Anne Frank and the book of Night differ in religious beliefs and family relationships, both focus on surviving the Holocaust and staying close to their families.
In late May during the wee hours of the morning a rapid knock at the door woke Anna from another horrible nightmare. She sat straight swimming in her bed, crying, and drowning in the torrent of blankets. Suddenly there was a second knock, but before she could completely rub the sleep from her eyes the door was opened and in stepped a very thin, tall stranger with soft curly dark brown hair and golden eyes hidden behind spectacles.
“The bad sleep well.” This quote is actually the name of a 1960’s Japanese film directed by the world renowned director Akira Kurosawa. There isn’t much to say about the movie, but it has a key role in the 2005 Pulitzer Prize winner for Drama play Doubt: A Parable. Out of all of the places that the author John Patrick Shanley puts this quote is right at the first page before chapter one and after the preface with two other quotes. The location of the quote and what the quotes say give the reader questions and what happened and maybe foreshadowing what will come in the book.
In the short story, “Sleeping”, the author Katharine Weber used many details that had deeper meanings behind them. For example, the Winters seem a little strange when they left Harriet in charge. They want Harriet to babysit for them while they go see a movie, yet they do not want her to check on the baby. “Before the Winters left they said absolutely please not to look in on the sleeping baby because the door squeaked too loudly” (Weber,14). This makes the Winters sound suspicious. It does not make sense because there is no point in hiring Harriet to babysit if she cannot even see the baby. It makes it sound like they are trying to hide something from her. The door squeaking is not really a good reason. So, Harriet decides to check on Charles
The play version of The Diary of Anne Frank tells the story of one girl who lives in an Annex during the Holocaust along with many other people, including family, friends, and even a dentist. In this play, Anne tries to survive the Holocaust hiding in the Annex of their father’s store, while places all around them get searched for the Jewish Population. Of course, there were many other Jews telling the story of the Holocaust from their perspectives. One of the most popular ones is the book Night, written by Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel. The book Night was based around the life before and during the Holocaust. It talks about the peaceful life they had before, the beginning of the invasion, the separation in concentration camps, and a death march that would of killed anyone. Although Elie Wiesel and Anne Frank provide different settings, as well as how the fathers feel, both authors provide information about the importance of a father-child relationship, and how the fathers are important figures to them. It shows what the Holocaust looks like in two very differing perspectives, including a peaceful-for-the-most-part Annex and the concentration camps of Buna, Auschwitz, and many more.
Holocaust was one of the most terrible events that happened in history. This event occurred during World War II when Hitler was the leader of Germany. In 1933 the Nazis took control of Germany. Hitler had no right to do any of this stuff to them since they didn't do anything to him. Jewish people didn't have a fun time when all of this was happening since everything was happening to them. Over six million Jewish people were murdered by the Nazis at this time. Hitler and the Nazis army used fear to gain control of the government and the German people. Hitler took over Jewish men, women, and children's lives. Hitler was that mean that everyone that opposed what he said had to go to concentration camps even if they weren’t Jewish. Hitler didn’t
The next morning, the alarm buzzed noisily, the sound polluting the silence. Confused for a moment, he looked around blankly. It used to be home, but now it felt unfamiliar. There was a room at the end of the corridor, the door slightly ajar. He waited, expecting the door to open, but it never did. The area was the same as the night before, empty.
Marie was scared but brave as she felt around for a hole in the wall or a door. Marie felt something out of the ordinary. It was all fuzzy and was standing up. She noticed that the little light came back into the room. The thing she was touching made her scream at first. Then she realized that it was just a stuffed bear. She didn’t notice it before, when she had light and then lost it. It’s not that easy to miss something as big as the bear.
In recent years several mandatory sentencing laws have been put into motion. The original goals of the mandatory sentencing laws were to stop repeat offenders and to exhibit a "get tough attitude" on crime. These laws have not been working as intended, instead mandatory sentencing has led to some unfortunate consequences. Some of these consequences are overcrowding in prisons and less prison based rehabilitation. Mandatory sentencing laws do not narrowly target major drug traffickers.
Josh would be surprised by how vindictive his mother was becoming. She enjoyed the sex as much as Josh did. Instead of working things out, it was her who started all this. Telling him what they shared was wrong. Saying it couldn't happen again and demanding he keep her dirty secret. She was willing to send her son away like some criminal. Ship him off just because she was selling her body to anyone wiling to pay the price. It seemed Mia was willing to use anything to against Josh. Just to keep the fact she was whoring around quiet. Well, Mia could scheme all she wanted. She could use her own daughter as a tool. Josh still held the upper hand. All he needed to do was tell his father about Mia's night work. Mathew thought his wife was out helping
Freedom of speech is a value that often is overlooked. The lack of speech or opinion often comes with a lack of comfort felt by one side of a situation. When thinking of the importance of speech and opinions, I realized that they are the foundation of this country. America values opinions and base their leadership off of such. The disappearance and silencing of these opinions would drastically change the nation. The novella Sleep Donation by Karen Russel parallels these issues, such as silencing and the shadowing of opinions, that are occurring in today 's world.
The events recounted in Anne Frank’s Diary took place during World War 11. By 1933, the strongest party in Germany had gained ultimate power with Hitler under their command. Hitler was Germany’s dictator who spread his gospel of racial hatred through politics. While poverty and unemployment were at an all time high he launched a campaign of anti-Semitism. Hitler’s main target was the Jews, claiming that they were “racially inferior.” He developed an idea of a Master Aryan Race, the need to rid Germany of “inferior people”, such as Jews and Gypsies, and the need to expand Germany’s borders. In doing this, he caused many Jews to abandoned their homes and go into total isolation. The Frank family
Inside the small house it was pitch black and completely silent. So dark, in fact, that one could not see their own hand in front of their face. The deeper into the house, the darker it became. Now into the family room and up the stairs.A distinct sound of scratching emanated from the door at the end of the hall. Inside, the room seemed to belong to a young girl, but only because the little girl nestled in bed deemed it so.
One sunny spring day, Rachel arrived home from a long day of school. As she set down her backpack, she casually walked to the kitchen to begin preparing a snack. When she was opening the cabinet door she saw an odd looking light coming from the kitchen window. She also heard a small bang and the neighbor’s dogs begin to bark. She thought to herself what the light and noise could have been. It was too bright to be headlights from the neighbor's car or really anything else. Rachel slowly approached the door to her backyard, slightly afraid of when she will find outside.
