Anne Frank Essay: The Holocaust was a tragic event in history, where millions of Jews were killed by whom many would be viewed by being evil. However one girl, Anne Frank, which was also a Jew could see good in the natizs, “ In spite of everything, I STILL believe people are really good at heart.” - Anne Frank. I also believe that people are good at heart too because of the way Anne acted. But I can see how people can disagree with Anne and myself just by how Mr. Vann Daan acted. I saw very many acts of kindness from Anne. But there was one part that I thought was wonderful and thoughtful, and that it came out of her heart to her mother! “ Anne: For mother, a Hanukkah greeting. Mrs. Frank: This is the most precious gift I’ve ever seen!” During this scene on page 73, Anne showed a good action of being kind by, that after being very mean to her mother she showed her that she loved her no matter what. Also she was not thinking about herself she thought of others! She also cheered her mother up and showing her that she still loves her its just that she's stressed out. …show more content…
VannDaan. “Dussel: (Grabbing the bread) YOU DIRTY THIEF! STEALING THE FOOD. YOUR GOOD FOR NOTHING!” During this scene on page 120 , Mr. Vann Daan showed a bad action of being a jerk by stealing the bread. Mr. Vann Daan was also being selfish he didn't care if the other were hungry at all! Also he didnt think about what would happen if he did do it. Lucky he didn't get kicked out! But even though Mr. Vann Daan did do some bad things, I still believe that their is some good in him.just like Anne so that’s why I still believe that people are still good at
She now realizes that she is treating her mom poorly and understands that no one wants to be treated the way that she is treating her mother. Anne feels really bad and cares about her mom. This is shown when she stops rambling about her mother and realizes how she is treating her. Anne cares. She wishes that she did not do that to her mother and that she takes it back and wants to become
To begin, Anne was a selfless, outgoing, and positive young girl that had to live in hiding. Anne was always positive during the time of the war,
First of all, one reason why Mr. Van Daan is shown to be selfish is because of the fact that he desperately takes action in order to sustain his cigarette addiction. For example, on pages 298-299, as Mrs. and Mr. Van Daan were quarreling, Mrs. Van Daan states that smoking is “a filthy habit anyway” and that he has been “smoking up all (their) money”. This shows that Mr. Van Daan is selfish because of the fact that he has been wasting the Van Daan’s money on his addiction, in which Mrs. Van Daan disapproves of and because he
Unfortunately, many good intentions end up being actions that seem irresponsible to others. In the novel, A Raisin in the Sun by Lorraine Hansberry, the main character frequently struggles with other characters misunderstanding his behaviors which are initially for a good purpose. Although Walter’s behavior seems irresponsible, he has good intentions to provide his family a better future.
Anne Frank was a young girl who lived during the holocaust who lived during Hitler’s reign in Amsterdam. Only one problem: She was Jewish. In July of 1942, Margot Frank was called to report to a concentration camp. The Franks were forced into hiding in an annex behind Mr. Frank’s business. The Franks, along with the Van Pels and Mr. Pfeffer, hid in the annex for about two years. During her time in hiding, Anne confided in a diary. In her diary, she wrote “Despite everything, I believe people are really good at heart.” I agree with Anne. In my opinion, everyone is good at heart; they just show it in different ways. People do what they think is right. Even though there is evil in the world, I believe that deep down, everyone is good at heart.
In the play, The Diary of Anne Frank, Anne is a dynamic character who is disrespectful and immature in the beginning of the play. When Anna had a nightmare in the beginning of the play, her mother came into her room to comfort her. Her mother offered Anne water and to stay with her until she fell asleep, but Anne said it wasn’t necessary to stay. When Mrs. Frank stated, “But I’d like to start with you . . . Very much. Really.” Anne replied, “I’d rather you didn’t” (398). This scene demonstrates Anne is both immature and rude because she rejects her mother’s help. Her mother is likely very hurt by this rejection, especially since, as her mother leaves the room, Anne asks for her father instead. In the end of the play, Anne shows she is a dynamic character by displaying the character traits brave and thoughtful. While Peter and Anne
Anne Frank and her family were all Jewish during the Holocaust (1933-1945). The Franks and their friends, The Van Dans, hid in a secret annex together for two and a half years. They had two friends on the outside, that weren’t Jewish, that helped them. Their names were Miep Gies and Mr. Crawler. Miep also found Anne Frank’s diary after the Nazi’s had taken her and her family away. In the last part of her diary, she wrote “In spite of everything, I still believe that people are really good at heart.” There are multiple reasons why I believe she says this. I believe that this is true because Anne had multiple well-rounded people around her. Her father, had continued to have Anne and Margot, Anne’s sister, to do their school work so that they would not be
On page 70 Anne says, “ Presents! ( she darts into her room and hurriedly put on a little party hat she has improvised from her lamp shade; a paper flower and bits of ribbons cover it. An elastic goes under her . chin. She snatches up her school satchel bulging with parcels and come running back.” She was very excited to hand out her presents. This shows how she is very selfless and gave up her time and materials to make these gifts for them and it was very caring. She had so much hope, and cared so much about the people and the presents that she was handing out that this is the main reason in the book about whether people are still good at heart or not. Even though her situation was so bad she still cared and had hope for here and everyone in the
During this scene, Anne confessed that she had a nice side, but she was scared to show it. She would be nice, but she did not know what people would think about her. I think this is a big act of kindness because when you dig deeper and read on, you can find that she told Mr.Frank that the mean Anne comes out and the nice Anne stays on the inside. This shows how hard she has tried and nothing would work, she was kind hearted and felt differently
Human Behavior in “Diary of Anne Frank” After Anne Frank’s diary was published in 1947, Goodrich and Hackett created a play based on her diary called “Diary of Anne Frank”. During World War II a Jewish family and friends were forced to go into hiding where they dealt with life and death circumstances. When people are faced with extreme difficulties, they can choose to think only of themselves, use their words to negatively affect others, or be a leader who guides and protects others. Mr. Van Daan was a character who decided he would use his words to negatively impact the congregation.
Throughout the book, Anne Frank tries to understand her adolescent feelings, thoughts, and experiences, while at the same time dealing with the conflict of trying to survive. Right of the start, the loud and vibrant Anne has to tone herself down to maintain hiding in the Annex. This left her lonely and separated from the things she loved to do in the
Thought I saw numerous acts of kindness throughout the play based on Anne’s diary, what ultimately convinced me to agree with Anne’s thought that everyone’s good at heart was Anne herself and her actions during Hanukkah. On page 70, the following dialogue takes place:
In the exquisite play, “ The Diary of Anne Frank”, by Frances Goodrich and Albert Hackett , a major topic is shown which is the natural mother’s instincts to protect their children which is shown by Mrs.Frank. Mrs. Frank is the mother of Anne Frank, and ever since the beginning of the play they get into fights and plainly don’t get along at times and it doesn’t help that they are stuck in one place. Even though that is true, Mrs.Frank’s does little acts to showing her motherly side to Anne like making sure she has her milk, checking if Anne’s has a fever and etc. In addition, whenever Mrs. Van Daan or Mr. Van Daan does anything or says anything rude or ‘unpleasant’ she does not say a word against it, not unless or until it goes against her children’s survival which does occur between the conflict of Mr. Van Daan and Mrs.Frank. Throughout the play, various incidents and pieces of dialogue reveals aspects of Mrs.Frank’s character while also
At first, Anne was terrified to go into hiding but her positivity and hope showed and taught many people lessons on how you should look at life. Anne had such a big influence on the people who read her diary. The play that was constructed off of her diary writings really lets us understand how and what Anne was feeling along with the others in the house. The Franks in addition to their friends, had people who helped them out while they were in hiding. This is one reason why Anne would have thought that people were really good at heart. One prime example is Miep Gies. She helped the Franks even though she was not faithful in the Jewish religion. Meip replenished everyone in the group by bringing them what they needed. She had a well thought out tactic that helped her be able to bring supplies to the secret annex. She never gave up on them and helped them through their entire hiding. This shows that people may not believe in the same things as you, but deep in their heart, they are willing to help anyone in need. The group of people hiding in the secret annex was in need, they had no way of getting food or any other supplies. This is where Miep came in to help them. She brought them the food, plus all of the supplies that they needed, therefore, making them live much longer than they should have. In the play, you could tell how happy the family was to see her. On page 326, we read, “Thank you, Miepia. You shouldn’t have done it.” this was
Besides being lazy, Van Winkle is also characterized as irresponsible. Irresponsibility is Van Winkle’s attitude towards life and his family. His neglectfulness towards his own family and children is the exact opposite from Van Winkle’s helpfulness to the villagers. For instance, Van Winkle was well liked by the children in the village because he plays with them and care for them. However, when it comes to his own children, he neglects them causing them to be “as ragged and wild as if they belonged to nobody” (Irving 10). Van Winkle does little things for the children in town but leaves his own kids by themselves. He never cares for them and lets them go wild while he plays with the children in the town. In
