There are many influential figures in our history, and they have changed our lives and the way that we see things. I believe that Anne Frank is one of the most influential figures in our history because she’s claimed to have penned one of the world’s most powerful accounts of Jewish life during World War II. When she went into hiding during the Holocaust, she journaled her experiences for an imaginary friend by the name of ‘Kitty’, and she always believed the world would change and become better; "that peace and tranquility will return once more” (Anne Frank).
Early Life
Anne Frank was born on June 12, 1929, in Frankfurt am Main, Germany (Source #3). The Franks lived in a neighborhood as an "upper middle - class German - Jewish family” (Source …show more content…

Edith, Otto, Fritz Pfeffer, and the Van Pels were sent to the Netherlands. They had to stay in Westerbork, which is a holding camp (Source #5). Anne and her sister, Margot, were sent to Bergen - Belsen camp in Germany. The food supply and sanitation were terrible, and disease was always spreading around (Source #1). At only the age of 15, Frank, along with her sister, died of typhus on March 12 and 13 in 1945 (Source #5). About a month after Anne and Margot passed away, the camp was liberated by troops (Source #2). Hermann van Pels and Fritz Pfeffer died in 1944, only a short time after they arrived. Edith, Auguste van Pels, and Peter van Pels were all suspected to have passed in 1945 (Source #5). Miep had given the papers to Otto as soon as he returned from captivity, and the journal (Het Achterhuis/ The Diary of a Young Girl) was first published in America (Source #2). Even though Anne’s diary was recreated as a book in 1947 (English version released in 1952), it is one of the most inspirational and widely-read books in the world (Source #5). Anne‘s story was developed on Broadway as a play on October 5, 1955. It won the ‘Tony Award’ and ‘Pulitzer Prize’ for best play and best drama in 1956 (Source #4). Eleanor Roosevelt (husband of Franklin D. Roosevelt) believed that the book was very remarkable, because she knew Anne was not afraid to express herself and tell people how she really feels (Source #4). The Annex was rebuilt and created as a museum in the year 1960. Anne’s diary (the original) can be found on display there (Source #4). The Anne Frank Educational Trust developed a film in 1995 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Anne’s death. In 2009, a project commenced at the Anne Frank Center in the US. The facility began planting saplings from a chestnut tree, which first grew about 170 years ago, that Anne treasured (Source #1).
