If a patient has a disorder such as ADHD and their medication helps their symptoms go away for a while, then when another comorbid disorder is happening simultaneously it may cause the medication they are already using not work as well. The tolerance they have for the medication will rise, causing them to need something stronger to make their symptoms go away. That is when they will probably start to look at other stimulants and drugs to help, in which this can lead to abuse or addiction.I will use this book chapter in Unit three because it is important to know if comorbids can have an effect on ADHD …show more content…

Medications is the main reason it is believed that patients develop substance abuse, to coincide and further help with their symptoms. Developing a tolerance for their prescriptions and in need of something more. Most of these patients never received medication for their ADHD because it was never found until their later years. Due to this they have other psychiatric comorbidities and turn to alcohol and drugs. I will use this article in unit three, I feel it’s interesting that these people never been diagnosed with
