In the past few decades, the question of allowing for same-sex marriage is a recurring topic of controversy. In the houses of same-sex couples, the need for equal rights is of great importance. Currently, many states ban the marriage of same-sex couples and do not view a marriage between same-sex couples as an official marriage. These states quote the Constitutional definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman. In the article “Same-sex marriage protects Families and Children in Many Way” the author points out that “Parenting by same-gender couples is an established and growing part of the diverse structure of families in the United states.” (same-sex, 2015). Therefore embracing Americans diversity and promoting differences have lead to same-sex marriage being permitted and eventually accepted. Promoting same-sex marriage will financially support couples because it will allow both parties to put both names on title to a home, etc. In previous studies, 34.3% of lesbian couples and 22.3% of gay couples are raising children nationwide. On June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to marry. Many conservative groups do NOT agree with this decision. The gay marriage debate has been simmering for as long as I can remember. The four articles I have selected give information from four different perspectives including that of liberals, conservatives, homosexuals, and orthodox Jews. With so many differing opinions, one can understand why it's been so hard for the nation to come to agree on this issue.

Homosexual marriage is one of the old but controversial issues around the world. Compared to the past, it seems to become a more open debate among people. At the same time, people seem to be more swayable than before, but towards the gay marriage, different voices have still been hovering in the air. Gay people and their supporters have been striving for their rights to get married legally, while others who against gay marriage have never stopped deterring it.

In recent years, the debate over same-sex marriage has grown into a nationwide controversy, reverberating into the halls of congress, at the white house, in dozens of state and legislature and courtrooms, and in the rhetoric of election campaigns at both the national and state levels. As the debate rages on, the American religious community remains deeply divided over the issue, and over the morality of homosexuality. The debate has grown from an issue that occasionally arose in a few states to a national and even worldwide controversy.

Gay marriage ignores the offspring’s best interests. It really offends God in a lot of ways that there are people in our world like this. People will use the excuse of everybody sins, but I know that this issue is one of the major sins that you should not cross, no matter the circumstances. God created men and women to be fertile and multiply. He created us to raise the children correctly and maybe become doctors. He did not create us to raise or have the same gender. Children need mother and father figures throughout their life.

Gay marriage scares many people because it strays from the norms of heterosexual relationships. The topic of my article is called “ The case of Gay Marriage”. Allowing same-sex marriages would change the basic definition of marriage. Marriage is an important commitment of a man and a woman who contribute to civilization. Therefore, the loss of contributions due to someone’s sexual orientation should not be rewarded with a privilege such as marriage. In fact, we know that most of the religions are opposing same-sex marriage, because they are always guided by the Bible and God’s commandments and his teachings. “Marriage was established by the Creator with its own nature, essential properties and purpose. No ideology can erase from the human spirit the certainty that marriage exists solely between a man and a woman” (ProCon.org, 2011, Con Gay Marriage, ¶12). If same-sex is legalized, churches and other religious institutions would be forced to change their rules in order to marry same-sex marriage couples.
