Anti Same Sex-Marriages Essay

On June 26, 2015, the US Supreme Court ruled that the US Constitution guarantees the right for same-sex couples to marry. Many conservative groups do NOT agree with this decision. The gay marriage debate has been simmering for as long as I can remember. The four articles I have selected give information from four different perspectives including that of liberals, conservatives, homosexuals, and orthodox Jews. With so many differing opinions, one can understand why it's been so hard for the nation to come to agree on this issue.

In recent years, the debate over same-sex marriage has grown into a nationwide controversy, reverberating into the halls of congress, at the white house, in dozens of state and legislature and courtrooms, and in the rhetoric of election campaigns at both the national and state levels. As the debate rages on, the American religious community remains deeply divided over the issue, and over the morality of homosexuality. The debate has grown from an issue that occasionally arose in a few states to a national and even worldwide controversy.

Homosexual marriage is one of the old but controversial issues around the world. Compared to the past, it seems to become a more open debate among people. At the same time, people seem to be more swayable than before, but towards the gay marriage, different voices have still been hovering in the air. Gay people and their supporters have been striving for their rights to get married legally, while others who against gay marriage have never stopped deterring it.

The legalization of gay marriage has been a controversial issue in many state courts since the mid 1970s. Gay marriage scares many people because it strays from the norms of heterosexual relationships. Traditional American ideals have become a part of culture and society that everyone, regardless of sexual orientation, or race, or gender, expect to have as a basic human rights. Several times in history these have been identified as inalienable rights. One of the expected rights of many American citizens is the right to choose who they love, who they marry, and how they live their day to day life. When heterosexual Americans were introduced to the idea of same sex marriage, they became afraid that it would “taint the minds of the young members of the community,” since homosexualty was and still is frowned upon in the community. Thus, the homosexual community’s opportunity to freely choose how to live their life is taken

The majority of people who oppose gay marriage are religious conservative groups and people who believe in keeping marriage a sacred thing between a man and a woman. While this may be their belief system, this country was founded on religious freedom, where the people are allowed to worship how they see fit. A ground rule, set up from the beginning, states that separation needs to be made between religion and government, so the two shall never come together to become a theocracy.

In the past few decades, the question of allowing for same-sex marriage is a recurring topic of controversy. In the houses of same-sex couples, the need for equal rights is of great importance. Currently, many states ban the marriage of same-sex couples and do not view a marriage between same-sex couples as an official marriage. These states quote the Constitutional definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Therefore, with this definition, the marriage of a man and a man or a woman and a woman is unconstitutional. As of the issue date of this article, the Supreme Court had not made a national decision on same-sex marriage and the benefits entitled to that marriage. Christian groups who stand up for same-sex marriage often say that all people are created exactly how they are by God and should have the same rights as others no matter their sexual orientation. Those who are opposed to it argue that same-sex relationships are against God's will. The Jewish church also varies in its approach to same-sex marriage while the Islamic faith completely rejects homosexuality.

The topic of my article is called “ The case of Gay Marriage”. Gay marriage has been a very sensitive and controversial topic for several decades, but the public opinions on this topic has been evolving. Even with all of the social and legal changes that have occurred over the past few decades, there are still millions of people in the U.S. who are fervently opposed to the idea of same-sex marriage. This article is effective because the author describes how gay marriage should be accepted and treated as a heterosexual marriage.

America today is gripped in the controversial debate regarding gay rights; specifically, the right for two people who are of the same sex such as a man and man or woman and woman to be joined in the legal bond of marriage. The points of contention are largely separated into 4 main categories. The sanctity of the institution known as 'Marriage', the benefits gained from being married, family structure, and the growing impact of our society on a religious institution.

Gay marriage has been a controversial topic throughout all of time. Until recently, straight marriage was the only kind of marriage acceptable to most people. Gay marriage is defined as the legal marriage between two people of the same sex. In the United States of America, Same-sex marriage is legal, but it has not always been that way. Since the 70’s, the path to marriage equality for homosexuals has not been easy. It took blood, sweat, tears, and countless hours of protest for gay marriage to gain equality in the US, but in the end, it was all worth it.

In the present time, marriage between two people of the same sex is legal in 37 states and the District of Columbia. During the course of the United States’ history, people have fought discrimination. People has battled to recognize equality for racial minorities, women, people with disabilities, and immigrants. As a result, denying some people, the option to marry due to their sexual orientation is discriminatory and creates the idea of a second of class citizens. The political aspects of whether same-sex couples should be allowed to federal and government recognized marriages are a very complex issue. There are basically two sides to the political argument of whether same-sex couples should be allowed to marry. On one side are the liberals who feel that marriage is a civil right that should be denied based on the basis of a person's sexual orientation. Marriage is a great factor in the United States. To some people it’s what we live for; is to get married and start a family.
