"Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter" by Martin Luther King Jr. So while reading the Greek play of "Antigone" by Sophocles. In every book or play there is always that one character that you feel very connected with. There were many characters in the play that I have connected with, but the one that I thought I connected the most with was Antigone. The both of us have many things that are similar and many things about us that are very different. Our appearance, attitude, and even our actions are very similar.
Lots of people can look like others, that's just the way that the world is, but nobody will ever be the exact same person you are. In my life I have changed my look several times, and every time I have I just come back to my first look. I am myself and nobody can change me or my personality. Antigone and I have both been through so many trials in life, and we do not really let those events define how we are going to live our life. Trials do not define who you are,

The reason many people judge others is because either it is just their personality, or it is because of their self-esteem. Personalities are characteristics and qualities that make up an individual. Many individuals in this world may have the same personality as you, but nobody ever has the same qualities as you. Antigone and I have some of the same qualities, but we are not the same person. Some of my friends and I have the same qualities, but we do not always agree on the same things. Antigone and I believe that God's words are greater in power than Man's words. We are also similar because of the temper that can come out. Sometimes you can start to hang around a new person, and you will start to develop some of the same qualities as them. The original play of Antigone was written 1000s of years ago but, this movie was made in the 1940s during the second world war. The French Government was controlled by Nazis, when showed the play, both the french resistance and the Nazi party loved it. When one analyzes the characters to this situation you find that Creon relates to the Nazi party and Antigone is like the French rebels. Antigone is like the rebels because she is going against the wishes of Creon and wants to give her brother a proper burial and Creon is like the Nazi party because it was his decision to make sure that his nephew got the punishment he deserved even if it meant going against his family values.
Creon says “Eteocles who died as a man is to be buried with full military honors, his brother Polynecies is to have no burial, no man is to touch or say a prayer for him. He shall lie on the plain unburied so the birds and dogs can do as they want. ”His niece (sister of both the brothers) decides he should be buried and Creon can kill her if he needed, she did not care. Creon decided to put her in a hole to starve to death for breaking his law. So it makes Creon the tragic hero because he was too late to save Antigone, she hanged herself, his son found out so he stabbed himself, and Creon’s wife found out about the son so, she also killed herself. Just to think he could’ve saved everyone he loved.
Haimon and Teiresias both present strong arguments that have facts in them that oppose the execution of Antigone. Haimon refers to the citizens: “That’s not what all the citizens of Thebes are saying” (line733). He is referring to the fact that the citizens of Thebes believe that execution of Antigone is too harsh of a punishment. Teiresias speaks of a scenario that isn’t fact yet but soon will be: “A little time will test my metal, showing forth both men’s and women’s wailing cries in your own house”(line 1079). Teiresias is foretelling of the deaths Creon’s wife and son. It was a bold prediction, as there always are in fabricated plays, but it showed to be true. A common American saying is that success is determined not by how you
One has the capability to determine from right and wrong and having the determination to stand up for what one believes in, no matter what the price is. In Sophocles’ Antigone, a written dramatic play, Sophocles portrays the theme that at times of one’s life, it is necessary to follow moral law and ignore political law. In the play, a determined and courageous woman named Antigone is loyal to her beloved brother by granting him a proper burial and having to suffer the consequences for revolting. Throughout Antigone, several incidents occurred where the political law was of no importance to the individual. Conflicts between Antigone and Ismene and then with Creon and Antigone are examples of the theme. The theme also ties with the
In the play Antigone, written by Sophocles, writes a story about how one person's action has the abilities to affect everyone around them. The main character Antigone openly admits that she dislikes how Thebes is being run. Even though she is alone on her beliefs, she strongly disagrees with Creon decisions, and wants the world to know her deeds. Antigone's deeds end in her inevitable death, but in her passing achieves her objectives. The writer uses her to show how much a single person can affect society, but also shows one must endure the sacrifice to achieve progress. Throughout the story we find the characters must stand by what they believe in and face the consequences to ensure change.
In Antigone , Eteocles and Polyneices had opposite character traits of each other. Eteocles was stubborn unlike his brother Polyneices who was fair. When the time came for Eteocles to give the throne to Polyneices , Eteocles did not really agree with the fact that he had to give the throne up to his brother. Eteocles at the time being was thinking of just himself thus , making him look selfish and unfair . As requested by Creon , Eteocles was supposed to give the throne to Polyneices .Making

Antigone: the very title of the play by Sophocles. Though she may not be the tragic hero, her character is influential throughout the text. In the beginning, she is intensely passionate and follows her heart in an attempt to appease the gods by doing what’s right. But soon, as the story progresses, she seems to gradually lose some of her passion as the fear of what’s in store for her is brought to light. As stated earlier, Antigone plays a crucial role in Sophocles play.
My siblings are my best friends" by America Ferrera. "Antigone" and "An Enemy of the People" are both famous plays that I recommend reading. Both of these plays have similar themes that talk about how loving your brother or sister is important. One reason is in the play Antigone were Ismene shows that she does not care what her sister Antigone does anymore,And showing that she has given up on trying to convince Antigone on pursuing a dangerous task.
After reading Antigone by Sophocles, readers may believe that the two main characters, Antigone and Creon, seem like polar opposites. However, after digging a little deeper, readers are able to come to a final conclusion that although both characters may not always see eye to eye, they carry a number of similar traits. The characters seem to be so alike that it results in the two to constantly disagree, leading towards the two to continuously find new differences and flaws within each other. They don’t exactly have the same views, for example, Antigone seems to put family over everything else while Creon’s loyalty is more concerned with the well-being of Thebes. However, the two characters do have many similar internal characteristics. They are independent, confident, and stubborn when they want to be.
“Zeus did not announce those laws to me. And justice living with the gods below sent no such laws for men. I did not think anything which you proclaimed strong enough to let a mortal override the gods and their unwritten and unchanging laws.” (lines 508-513) Antigone’s character contrasts with Creon’s character causing the two to have conflicts. These conflicts bring out anger, disrespect, and unreasonableness in Creon’s character.
I still recall a classmate I once had in the 6th grade. Prepared and unfazed by any challenge they were faced, they seemed ready for anything. This person who left as quickly as they came had left a major dent in my life; they changed my perspective on life. When they talked to me some of the smallest pieces of advice they said like “what's the point of playing that game” or “How will social media even help you in the future” stuck to me. At that time I did not know how important a distant friend for a few months was. But today, many of the things I do are influenced by this person. Just like that classmate, people come and go in our lives; it is part of life. The minor characters, a small part of our lives, can impact our lives in indescribable ways. Similarly to Antigone, a play written by Sophocles in 442 BC, contains many twist and turns in the play which leads to many “classmates” that impacts the story. In various ways, Antigone shows that minor characters can make significant impacts such as foretelling the future, integrating development with main characters and affecting the plot.
The topic I chose to write this essay on is about the examination of the central conflicts that are taking place in the story “Antigone”. Throughout the story and what seems to be the start of many conflicts to come is, Antigone the main character having hard time fathering the fact that she’s not allowed to bury her other brother Polynices. Due to orders given by her uncle Creon. Essentially in the story Antigone struggles with fighting against the social customs of the time, disputes with her sister Ismene, and Creon who represents the state or government and the ultimate enemy.
Our nature as humans is to judge others. We are programmed to judge everything for the benefit of ourselves. Think about it for a second. What do you do when you meet new people? You judge them from the way
