Have you heard of the books Boy of the Painted Cave and The Lightning Thief? Tao, character from Boy of the Painted Cave and Percy from The Lightning Thief, both characters didn’t know who their fathers were. They had his in common but their life after that wasn't alike. Their reactions were the same but once they found out, they were treated differently.
Additionally, they both grew up fatherless, however, the circumstances were different. Furthermore, both of the boys had run ins with the law, and neither of them were interested in school. Although these two boys had several similarities, just a few minor differences influenced the people they are
To being with, when I go grocery shopping I can never seem to distinguish between cilantro and parsley, whereas Salvador and Sebastian are like an apple and a banana, remarkably easy to identify one from the other. Mainly, Salvador has a deep warm skin tone that contrasts Sebastian’s pale ivory skin. Also, Salvador has deep black eyes and thick black hair, while Sebastian has hazel eyes and thin brown hair. Lastly, although Sebastian is a year younger than Salvador, Sebastian is at least four inches taller than his older brother. At glance one may be surprised to learn Salvador and Sebastian are
Both the boys were from a same neighborhood, Baltimore and both had difficult childhoods. The story is narrated
The father and son also have comparisons in their character, they have similar characteristics when it comes to being sensible. An example of this is when, the boy and the man come across a cannibal's lair. In this they find people being prepared to be slaughtered and eaten. In this instance both the man and the son fight to get out of the lair. They both feel the same sense of danger and unease proving that they compare to each other. Another instance of this is when the boy and his father come across other survivors walking along the road with weapons and a pregnant woman. This chills both of the characters and they hide and wait for
The chapters are arranged so that the reader can gain full understanding of both boys’
This can be claimed because Felix first brought up the suggestion to split up after the fight to get their minds off of each other. Therefore, Felix is concerned about their friendship and the match. Antonio also wants to get his mind off of Felix as stated in “He tried not to think of Felix.”. However, after the breathtaking bout, they simply left, holding each other up and ignoring the final result. In the end, it states, “The fear soon gave way to wave upon wave of cheering as the two amigos embraced.
The story I have chosen to discuss is Rick Moody, “Boys”. This is a traditional coming of age story. The great thing about how Rick Moody story is how he takes several small paragraphs to explain a large amount of time. A good example of this is when he condenses the two twin brothers’ thirty years experiences into one paragraph. The whole story is seen through the eyes of the boys in their childhood home. This story follows the two brothers through many changes throughout their lives, to the illness and death of their younger sister and father. The twin brothers are supposed to be living a carefree childhood running, playing, and being a child but they are thrust into situations that children don’t usually have to deal with at their age. One thing that they both have in common is both Felix and Antonio have good punches when fighting. Another comparison is both boys dream of someday being lightweight champions of the world. Every morning Antonio and Felix run and practice there punches. Lastly, both boys live in the same tenement building/apartment. In Manhattan on Fifth street between
Despite the fact that Antonio is only a newborn, the two sides of the family have already predetermined his path in life. His mother, Maria, wants Antonio to become a priest while his father, Gabriel, would rather him be free and follow in his example. Both parents want to instill their own aspirations upon him and partake in a mentalgame of tug of war with Antonio, the youngest and last son of the family, the final chance to make one of his parent’s dreams a reality. At a young age, Antonio is forced to come to a consensus of which parent will he please and which one will he forsake. This fact lingers over him and often resurfaces within his dreams. Though he doesn’t yet have to reach a decision, this dream acts as a cautionary reminder that he will have to soon in the future as it slowly approaches.
These stories can be seen as different from each other in many ways. The young boy lives in a house in a suburban area without a mother or a father, but with guardians. He has a group of friends nearby he hangs out with. Though, he has no
Since the story is about two brothers who are very different from one another, this helps set the tone of the story.
Anyone who has ever met Mark and Stevie will recognize the difference in their personalities instantly. First off, Mark has a very kind heart, he always looks out for others and makes sure he puts their needs before his own. Stevie on the other hand is more rough around the edges and he only considers his own needs. These two boys also have very different backgrounds, Mark has always been a “lifer” in homes ever since he was young. Stevie is a “part timer” in and out of multiple homes due to his father’s time spent in jail. The boys also have completely different appearances. Mark is a shorter boy who has a plump figure, he also wears glasses on his face. While Stevie is taller and looks tough, anyone who ever made eye contact with him may
The conflict between the two brothers is deciding on whether or not they go into the forest. Therefore, the two brothers took different routes, but both ended out happy. This reveals that happiness can be achieved in many different ways, and the two different routes they went still had them end up living a fulfilling life. For my second short story, "Apollo", a story where a boy named Okenwa lives in a home with parents who are both professors and very intelligent. They also have a person that helps with work around the house and cleaning, Raphael is the name of the work boy and he around the age of Okenwa and both Okenwa and Raphael are very interested in Kung fu.
