ANTSY DOES TIME by Neil Shusterman 1. Antsy does Time, like Unwind, has a death theme. Unlike the characters of Unwind where they are being put to death, Antsy Does Time explores the prospect of death. From the beginning where there is the accidental death of the balloon handler, to the near death of Antsy’s father from a heart attack and the “prospective” death of Gunnar the reader highlights the different reaction of each case. 2. Antsy is my favorite character as he seems very mature for his age and is a loyal friend. He is very connected to his family and tried to do something important for a person he thought was dying. 3. The main conflict in the story is that Antsy’s friend Gunnar has a terminal illness and is …show more content…
Antsy is very close to both his mother and father so is devastated following an incident involving a jug of water and a local politician. Although Antsy’s antics cause friction between him and his father it is this that Mr. Crawley uses to ensure the success of their business in the end of the story.
Overall, the characters are easy to get to know and understand. The characters are genuine and likeable and it is a good example of a realistic fiction novel for the teen
This book is great for people who enjoy gore, suspense and a little romance. If you love to see good character cooperation and the characters in a lot of life or death situations where you really don’t know if they’ll make it or not this is the book for you. This books also shows that even the underdogs can still make a difference, and that gives us hope in life when there seems to be nothing left. Again if you love gore, suspense and a little bit of romance this is the perfect book for you, you won’t be
With the multitude of characters and their thought provoking pasts, one can certainly learn much from their perseverance and determination. The rating I would give it would be four and one half out of five. The book itself was delightful and captivating, as well as the intriguing characters, but the tone was sometimes a bit slow and could be a boring to some degree. Any minor characters in this book seemed so much more than one would expect from non-fiction. The characters in general mentioned in this story were often given many descriptive details and did not seem like they were just there for show. They truly aided in helping paint the picture of the students and school, making it seem more like it was like any regular high school. This book was extremely interesting and truly makes one think about how immigration is a serious matter that can turn dangerous at almost any
I would recommend this book to people who just want to read something because they're bored, because this book doesn’t really have any in-depth plot or characters. It’s not that it bore me it’s that it didn’t have any meaning. But if someone wanted a quick summer read or just wanted to distract themselves then this would be the
This book is a very good book. It is not one of my favorite books, but it is in, or somewhat close to, the top ten list. It has an intriguing story and has some humor in it to make sure that it isn’t all mellow.
7) I can imagine myself re-reading this book again in 10 years because this book is amazing and it is perfect for teenagers and young adult readers. This book is griping and beautifully written. When reading this book you get thrown into the apocalyptic setting. I would recommend this book to my friends because I loved it and all the other books in the series. It’s just great.
One of the things about the book that I personally liked was the characters, some of them were easy to relate to, even if you couldn't you could relate someone you knew with them. For example, David is not one of the main characters from the story but the more you learn about him, the more you realize how ambitious he is, wanted to change his career path almost every week, standing up to Mr. Neck. I think he's one of the things that helped Melinda find her voice.
I feel that, this novel is a good read for teenagers, because by reading it they can learn to accept there differences and themselfs . In our world today, nobody likes to be different, in fact most people try to change themselves. In the novel, it talks about how Calvin became secofenic. At first when Calvin found out the news , he imedily says that his mental illness was is a death of being normal. In the end Calvin learns to accept himself, and I think that teenagers need to do the same because, in world full of normal people, we need people who stand can out and make a change.
I would recommend this book to an audience of people who like science fiction or people who like adventure or suspense. I recommend this book for those audiences because there is a lot of adventure and traveling. For example, they start in Peru and then go to Texas then japan. There are also kids with electric powers, which is more science fiction. For instance, Michael can absorb and get more power from electricity. This book is very suspenseful so if you like suspense you will like this book, like when they try to stop the trucks, but they don’t think it works at first but then it
It captured my attention from the beginning. I like how the Rand was descriptive words to help me have an image of what was happening in the novel. I like the story line. I like the idea of someone breaking way from everyone else and being different from others. That they are able to think for themselves and that it is ok to be different from others. I also liked how the novel had some romance because I do enjoy romance novels. The Language Police written by Diane Ravitch, I did not quit enjoy the book. I do not really like books like that. I do not recommend this book if you are not interested in how the bias panel chooses stories for children. I do recommend the novel, Anthem. It gives the reader a sense of individualism, there is a story behind
Overall, the book is really good and sticks to those three main ideas of courage, weakness and truth throughout it. As both a reader and a writer (I write my own little novels) this book is really goods and i would recommend it to anyone who asks
As the overall book, I actually kind of liked it because it was kind of hard to understand because they couldn’t use “I” and I like challenges. They had to use “We” instead of using “I” to explain they self or the story. The book was okay as a whole but still kind of hard to understand I got kind of irritated after a while, while I was reading the book because of the way it was written.
It is scary when you don’t know anybody and have to try to make new friends. Many of your young childhood friends will stay with you for a lifetime. Today, I am still friends with many of my oldest friends. They have become like family. I want to say that this novel is a great way for people to see how somebody from a diverse population lives. It is a great book from the view of somebody living a completely different life than I have lived. I think it was very well written and is easy to read. This makes it a great teaching tool for children of younger age groups or college students as well. I read this entire book at one sitting because it kept my interest the entire time. I couldn’t wait to see what
I really liked the book. It was very enjoyable to read. I would recommend it to my friends, because I think they
I didn't much care about the main character Jacqui. She brings absolutely nothing to the story. She considers herself worldly and experienced, but she came across very naive. But not a lot happens to her so she was easily ignored. Eliza is one of the most horrible characters I've ever read about. She wasn't written badly, she's just a bad person. She's shallow and vapid. Only considers people who are rich and beautiful, and is unbearably rude to those who aren't. She's has some seriously unhealthy views on life in general and love in particular. Mara was great. She's a smart girl from a small time, has a firm grasp on reality and on what in life really counts. Though she does give in to peer pressure a couple of times, but that's not surprising considering she likes to keep the peace and avoids conflict at all costs.
This book has everything you could want a good plot, its entertaining, unique and fun characters that you can connect. This was one of those books that once you started; it’s hard to put down. Merry is a strong woman that I myself can relate. Her friends Pish and Shilo are unique and they reminded me of a few friends I have, Lizzie and Alcina are typical young people who add a lot to the story. I really enjoyed this book and I was glad to have the opportunity
