Antwone Fisher in my opinion is probably the most impactful movie I have ever seen. People may say, “ What a good movie” but I say “what a good man”.
Antwone Fisher grows up living in a foster home where he is beaten, mentally and sexually abused. After spending time in an orphanage he doesn’t know what to do with his life. After thinking about it he decides to join the Navy. The movie picks up with Antwone as a young sailor who has a problem controlling his anger. The psychiatrist decides that it would be a good idea for the both of them to set out and find his mother. In the end he finds his mother and then he gets married to the girl he first dated.
After watching the movie, I thought to myself how lucky I was to have a family that treats me right. Teens these days take things like this for granted. There are kids all across America who have been beaten and abused both mentally and physically.
Antwone underwent a lot of abuse and he just tried to cover it up. When he joined the navy, things just started spilling out of his heart. I don’t know about you but that has to take a lot of courage to uncover your deep dark past. This movie is filled with fear and courage and most of all the help of others.
There is one part in the movie that really made this movie one of the most impactful movies I have ever seen. He made a poem and presented it to his psychiatrist. It read:
Who will cry for the little boy lost and all alone
Who will cry for the little boy abandoned without his own
Who will cry for the little boy he cried himself to sleep
Who will cry for the little boy who never had for keeps
Who will cry for the little boy who walked a burning sand
Who will cry for the little boy the boy inside the man
Who will cry for the little boy who knew well hurt and pain
Who will cry for the little boy who died and died again
Who will cry for the little boy a good boy he tried to be
Who will cry for the little boy who cries inside of me
