The Anxious Mind and the Curious Spirit is a chapter from a book that dives into why we act and respond to situations the way we do. It specifically focuses on anxiety and curiosity. Both of these feelings are often present when something new occurs and if we are uncertain of what may happen. The article posed a question, “Do we take calculated risks and aim for the biggest possible rewards? Or do we go out of our way to make sure pain, errors and failures are kept to a minimum?” The answers to these questions are different for every person, we are unique in how we handle our lives. This question really gave me the opportunity to reflect on what I do. Depending on the situation I have seen myself say yes to both of those questions. People
The research question for this paper is: what are possible origins of or influences contributing to anxiety? Anxiety is a disorder where the individual experiences fear greater than what the situation warrants, and is currently the third largest psychiatric disorder in the United States (Schneier, 2003). However, the origins of anxiety is not entirely clear yet, and different schools of thought have formed different theories and explanations for this disorder. Knowing and understanding the possible origins of anxiety can assist in the development of treatments.
“If you want it, go for it. Take a risk. Don't always play it safe or you just might die wondering.” - Every day we take risks, whether you know it or not. Some risks might be good some might be bad but we will never know if we don't take them. Risk taking happens from the time we wake up in the morning till the time we go to bed.
The characters in the Scarlet Letter are judged greatly through how and who they are able and unable to forgive. Such as the main female lead, Hester Prynne, and her struggle for the town to forgive her, finding the will to forgive herself and having God forgive her. Although, this was hard because every day she had to live with the scarlet letter upon her chest as a reminder of her sin. Another character that had one of the roughest times in the novel was Arthur Dimmesdale. This man kept a sin hidden for most of the novel and let it eat him away. The person that Dimmesdale needed to forgivehim the most was Pearl. He spent most of the novel trying to earn her beloved trust. Pearl would ask him favors to go into town with her but it
Much of the decline of mainline Protestant denominations, such as the United Methodist Church, Presbyterian and Episcopal Churches, has been speculated to be largely due to widespread rejection of organized religion by young adults (Sides, 2016). While young adults are the most likely to claim religious non-affiliation, Americans of all ages have been trending downward since the late 90s and early 2000s (Wormald, 2015). As older more religious generations die, there are fewer younger generation members taking their places in Protestant congregations, leading to the declines being seen. Likewise, while Protestant denominations have been on the decline, nondenominational church memberships have risen since 2007. While Millennials coming

Why would someone take a risk? Is it not easier just to accept what one already has; but, suppose that what one has is not satisfying. Maybe, just maybe, that is why people strive to do more, to get more, to be more. Stanley Pierce, in the story "Call of the Klondike: A True Gold Rush Adventure," did just that. He faced the rigors of bone-chilling weather that could take his life at any moment in search of gold just so he could be rich. Farah Ahmedi, in her memoir "The Other Side of the Sky," climbed a mountain on a prosthetic leg to reach freedom from her war-torn home in Afghanistan. Finally, Annie Johnson, in her biographical essay "New Directions," started a business on a shoe-string budget so she could support her family due to the
“Some people wind up in trouble because of bad luck, but others make dangerous choices”, sometimes people do things for important reasons but others don’t, but this isn’t an excuse to hide from the reality and the responsibility for their actions.. This is necessary because many don't think that this is a priority but many people are going through this and it impact their live so much that they are no longer the same person they were before, and this encourages people that are reckless and don’t care about others to be able to do anything crazy because they know that there will be someone else to get them out of their problems.

With life becoming such a hassle with the increased amount of stress and tasks needed to overcome, even a moment of silence seems like one of the hardest tasks. Unfortunately, my mind was not able to concentrate on merely one topic, rather it was filled with complications and situations surfacing throughout my life. I was constantly thinking, I have many other assignments and tests to study for, and especially now that I recently got severely sickened, I am burdened down with more worries and anxiety if I will be okay. Additionally, ironically despite living in such advanced society, where there are many luxuries and privileges in the tip of our fingers, specifically there is an increased number of students and those from the new
The views on discrimination against African American males haven't changed greatly since the slavery era. For these males the discrimination has become more worse than ever before in modern society. The African American males are treated unfairly than white males such as from workplace to dealing with the police. There are more African American males in prisons and they got killed by white police officers more than any other races because of the racial profiling.
