There are many supporters in favor of English being the only recognized language spoken in America and there have also been many opponents. The debate has driven many states to pass their own laws concerning the English language. As we know, the United States is a nation known as a “ Great Melting Pot” built by immigrants whom many can not speak and parse English. Most immigrants faced difficult barriers by being discriminated against and the cause of their cultural name. If an immigrant name was stenuous to pronounce, they changed it. Immigrants brings their cultures and languages, as well as their customs and traditions. Making English the official language of the US
If you choose, you can compare or contrast the U.S. Constitution with the Haudenosaunee Great Law of Peace (the Iroquois Constitution).
On August 1 of last year [1996] the U.S. House of Representatives approved a bill that would make English the official language of the United States. I honestly believe this is best practice at least for the United States. If everyone speaks English then there is no language barrier within the country. Everyone can go to the store or ask for anything without a problem. This might help the economy as well because some people who speak another language find it harder to buy anything in an all English-speaking store. I know this from personal experiences since I work in a convenient store.
The English language is particularly complex in almost all aspects. Many of the words in the English language have different meanings for the same word. This is not unlike the definition of the different levels of usage. McCrimmon defines the three levels, formal, moderate, and colloquial, by their sentence structure, diction, and tone (McCrimmon 193). ¹ Using McCrimmon’s definitions, authors can determine what type of writing is applicable to each of the three levels. For the formal writings, an adequate example of where readers can find it is in a professional journal, and an appropriate place to find an example of the moderate level is in a weekly news magazine. Also, the best place to look for an example of the colloquial level is in certain sections of the newspaper. All of the levels of usage apply to these different types of writings and assist in defining what each level involves.
In conclusion i think that english should not be made the official language of the united states. The reason i think this is because it gives immigrants looking for a better life low opportunities or chances to have a better life. It would also be bad because a lot of people who are very intelligent but are immigrants and don't know how to speak english won't get the opportunities that some people get because they don't know how to speak a language. It would cost money to higher translators but imagine if an immigrant achieved greatness wouldn't it be better for the united
English should be enforced as the national language of America as it would promote unity among all citizens. Language can act as a form of disunity because many non-English speaking immigrants feel isolated in the United States as it is challenging for them to effectively communicate with others. These citizens struggle to complete even the simplest task that requires some form of communication
In the pamphlets “The Crisis” and “The Word and the Silence” Thomas Paine and Subcomandante Marcos formulated arguments based on the struggle between oppressive regimes and the commoners suffering it. Their purpose was to influence a justification to revolt in the common people as well as to establish how they needed to fight the oppression. The rhetorical devices used by Thomas Paine and Marcos can be compared in the sense that they both display anaphora, loaded language, and a credibility ethos to create an emotional, and inspiring tone to help their audience embrace revolt in a positive way. After coming to these conclusions, I was able to extrapolate a new insight on
In many moments of my life I have felt small. Even within my brazen fantasies of changing the world I would often snicker and ask myself, "Who are you to be able to do such things? You are only one little person!" It was with this feeling of doubt that I headed to Girls State in the summer after my junior year.

Over the past years people from all over the world have come to America bringing their own languages and cultures. The United States is thinking into passing a law that makes English as the official language. The United States should not make the English as the main language as it will affect people coming over that just want to work and look for opportunities. With this law, all the people migrating to the United States will have to pay for tutoring to understand and comprehend the English language. A reason why the United States should not focus on making the English language official is because over 20 percent of people living in the United States don't know the English language or don't know how to talk it very well.
In the united state the most spoken language in English so why not make English official language. I get it that America was formed by immigrants who came across the world who did speak English, but they learned to speak it along the way, because the were already english speakers there understand them better they taught them english. Speaking about this America should make English its official, because of a few reasons.
In the second semester of my sophomore year, I have been able to pass all my classes. I also finished taking the AP exam for my AP European History class. During this semester I have grown as a student in my skills for academic success in computer science; we made webpages using HTML and CSS language. I have also grown in my ability to communicate ideas by presenting a Prezi slideshow to my English class and classmates; the presentation was about a book we read in class in our groups.
The debate of instituting English as the official language in the United States is a debate that has been going on for centuries. Many people believe that English should be the official language because we are American, and Americans speak English. However, many of those people fail to realize that we all come from different heritages and corners of the world. Language should be an art of expression, one where people of all heritages and backgrounds can speak in the language that they have learned. Implementing English as the official language in the United States would be to essentially ignore and disrespect all of the heritages, nationalities, and religions that make the United States a unique place to live. The United States is
It was 4:58 am. Only 2 more minutes and he would be able to speak any language he wanted, and see through any object thanks to his X-ray vision and enhanced speaking skills. His vision before sunrise was near useless because his powers are sun activated. He was also trying is best to concentrate on 1 thing instead of everything thanks to his Hyper ADHD at night. Finally, the sun fully came up indicating that it was time for action; he could feel his powers starting to course through his veins and all over his body. Using his newly restored X-ray vision due to enhanced visual cortex, he got out of his hiding spot and ran down the basement where he could almost see children in range from 6-18 in a huge cargo box clinging to each other. But
The United States should have a language policy that English should be the official language of the nation. There are multiple reasons that this should happen and one of the reasons is economic. One of the argument of this issue is that the U.S. is spending a significant amount of money on the translating of official documents into many languages and to provide an interpreter for the official proceedings. So having an official language would mean that the U.S. wouldn 't have to spend so much money on providing those types of services, that way we can use the resources to spend on other issues that the nation needs to focus on. This is a convincing argument for having English as the official language of the U.S. Not only that but, many people who want English to be the official language see that a common language that will hold our country and culture together.
In contemporary society the Standard variety of English is the most commonly used as it is respected and associated with a higher prestige. Its usage is also advocated by prescriptivists who believe that it is the ‘correct’ and only variety that should be used. Standard English is usually seen in formal settings, where its usage is necessary for official and public purposes. However, contextual factors play a vital role in determining the most appropriate variety to be used, which is supported by the Principle of Appropriateness. Certain contexts where a non-standard variety is necessary are in social media settings and in communities of different ethnicities, where they are undeniably required to create solidarity between speakers.
