War-- a horrific way of justifying our actions and the innocent lives that have been lost, but on the other hand has resolved some of the greatest conflicts in history. Not every issue ever raised in this world is resolved through negotiation and discussion, rather sometimes war becomes a necessity for countries to settle disputes. War is a part of how a society strengthens itself politically, socially, and economically however, ultimately it becomes a country’s abusive use of power.
War can be defined as “an active struggle between competing entities. It’s truly hard to tell who is right or wrong during a war. Both sides are fighting for what they believe in and what is true to their heart. In the end there is always two things promised – destruction and death. These two objects can explain the result in every facet of war from the physical to emotional.

Ever since the days of Mesopotamia from the agricultural revolution, war has been a constant and important part of human life. Over time though, humans have evolved and gotten stronger and smarter which lead to more competition. War from its beginning, has consistently stemmed from the innate sense of evolutionary survival and subsequent competition, thus securing it’s inevitable perpetuation.
I believe that memorials are are amazing and needed for the main reasons of to learn about history and when history was made, for example, all of the war memorials as well as memorials dedicated to certain war heroes. Memorials are important to our history because memorials such as the Korean war memorial, the Vietnam war memorial, moving into more self dedicated memorials such as the Robert E. Lee who was a general, and the Chris Kyle memorial in Odessa, Texas. They are all important to our history because they represent the lives that were lost by protecting our country. They give the families of the men and women who were friends, wives, husbands, mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters or however else you knew them a place to go to remember them and pay our respects to them. The memorial that I am focusing on today is the Chris Kyle memorial. Kyle is also known as ‘The deadliest sniper in U.S. history’ he was a Navy SEAL who was honorably discharged after serving 4 tours over seas

The memorial is a circle intersected by a triangle. In a triangle field, 19 stainless steel statues are in a squad on patrol, representing each branch of the U.S. armed forces: Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy. They are portrayed from a variety of ethnic backgrounds, and their windblown ponchos mean the harsh weather of Korea. On the side of the statues, 22 countries of the United Nations that sent troops or gave medical support are listed. On the south side, a black granite wall, which intermingles the images of the faces, is standing. The faces are based on actual photographs of unidentified U.S. soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines. At the Pool of Remembrance, a small part of a circle, numbers of people who killed, wounded, held prisoner-of-war- are

War, whether we like it or not, it’s always going to be part of life and always has been. From personal wars to wars between two sovereign states and even the daily spiritual war that seems to be never-ending. War has created the culture in which we live today since the victor of war sets its nation’s policies and throughout history people from all over the world have been warring one another to gain sovereignty over lands or riches. “The first war in recorded history took place in Mesopotamia in 2700 BCE between Sumer and Elam. The Sumerians, under command of the King of Kish, Enembaragesi, defeated the Elamites in this war and, it is recorded, ‘carried away as spoils the weapons of Elam.’” Going to war is like playing a game of poker.
‘War’ as defined by Webster’s Dictionary is a state of open and declared, hostile armed conflict between states or nations. Voltaire—the human personification of the Enlightenment period—says the following: “Famine, plague, and war are the three most famous ingredients of this wretched world…All animals are perpetually at war with each other…Air, earth and water are arenas of destruction. Defining war has been a political issue for centuries, and it poses a philosophical problem. Most philosophers will agree on war being a clash of arms, or a state of mutual tension between nations or states, distinguishing it from open rebellions, riots, and personal violence.
War has been going on just about as long as people have been alive. Whether it is just some cavemen fighting over a fire, or multiple countries going to war for justice, there has always been some scale of war. I am going to be analyzing way through functionalist, conflict, and symbolic interactionist perspectives.
