In chapter five, we discussed several things on geography such as: ecology, the interaction of geography, demography, and environment. In the textbook they defined ecology as “the science concerned with the interactions between living things and their environment.” Human ecology which “is the part of ecology that deals with the way in which human societies adjusts to their environment. Ecological balance “is the term applied to the state achieved when plant or animal species, with its own characteristics and needs, has adjusted to its environment and survived, and when other species, which have likewise adjusted to the environment, prevent it from expanding indefinitely and from crowding them out. The environment is the sum `of all the external influences that impinge on the human organism. Geography is a social science that focuses on the spatial …show more content…
The social environment is composed of the elements in our surroundings that are human or of human origin. The natural environment is composed of nonhuman elements in our of the group to which we belong. Our natural environment depends primarily on the climate, water resources, soil, topography, and animal life and mineral resources of the part of the world in which we live in. Demography the study of the number and characteristics of a population. It is concerned not only with the number of people in an area but also with factors that may be causing their number to increase or decrease. The Environmental Protection Agency(EPA) is the most important government anti-pollution agency: it directs antipollution efforts and monitors environmental problems. Technology is the universe of tools, means, and methods through which we interact with our environment. An example of technological advance that has greatly influenced my life will be telephones. Cell phones has been one of the most
1. West – It is to the west that the sun sets at the end of the day. This fact connects the element of water to the west, since with the setting of the sun darkness approaches and with it coolness, which are aspects of this element. In addition, it is after a hectic day that we wind down and experience a measure of peace and calm. Since the element of water is also associated with calmness it is appropriate to link it with the west and the setting sun.
Located at the base of the Wasatch Mountains is the wonderful city of Sandy. Sandy City is one of the more populous areas of Salt Lake City and the 5th largest city in Utah. It is a large, mostly suburban area with a population of about 94,000 people. It extends from I-215 to the north, E 12300 to the south, W 10600 S to the west, and Little Cottonwood Canyon Road to the east.
For the 5th day, he created creatures for the waters and birds for the sky.
“Times and conditions change so rapidly that we must keep our aim constantly focused on the future”. This is a quote by one of the most successful and innovative men to ever live, Walt Disney. He was successful because he constantly kept looking to make a better future for himself and others. He did this through interactions with the world and everything around him. Interactions such as these can push mankind forward. They lead to innovations that revolutionize the world we live in. It only takes one great idea to change the world and make it a better place for everyone. Human geography deals with how human actions influence and impact other humans and the world’s environment.
1. In a compared map of the Holy Land and the state of New Jersey, there are not a lot of differences in the amount of land. Although the Holy Land does not provide important resources, people have been fighting over it throughout history.
archaeologist- Its a scientist who studies human history by digging up human remains and artifacts.
In the text they used ‘pretty bloody extraordinary’ to describe the project the Paterson is undertaking, the words give off an air of passion to the project. The writer gives off the impression that the whole project is extraordinary with words ‘grand, epic and phrases like ‘not a single soul’.
S- it shows how when people migrate they bring ideas and culture with them. For example this is why there can be four different languages being spoken in one place.
1. The reasons why some buildings are in the floodplains is because of agricultural industry. Another reason is population growth and expansion into those areas where people felt safe because of improvements of levees. Even though people were told about the dangers most people relied on disaster insurance instead of flood insurance. There should be laws that prohibit further development of these areas because it is costing the taxpayers lots of money for people that want to live in these areas that know the risks. If there were laws in place they could use some of the land as soccer fields and football fields as overflow ponds if they do want to build in a floodplain they need to raise the ground up by hauling in soils that will let the water pass through into those overfill ponds.
The enviromnet plays a huge role in the way they live in Africa. Where a region is located has a very big impact on the activities that are able to take place there. If a place is too hot or too cold, certain plants are not able to grow there. Also, too much rainfall or not enough rainfall can help or prevent certain plants from growing. In Africa your specific location in regards to elevation, and the equator, the climate and the natural resources all play a role in Africa's economy.
Chapter Four mainly revolves around three major ideas and/or themes. These are the ideas of industrialization, empires, and war; more specifically World Wars 1 and 2. It starts by explaining the start of the Industrial Revolution in Great Britain in the mid 1800s and how it originated and the events surrounding it. Many of the key ideas in this chapter will aid me in also discussing the economic history of Sweden.
In Chapter 3 of Earth's and his people we because begin to see a continuation of chapter 2 where many civilizations began to emerge yet, while we also see the emergence of countries we also see the evolution of countries .
Technology: a broad term that can define anything that aids human’s ability to complete tasks or increase an individual’s quality of life. While technology is commonly thought of in a digital sense, it can be much more than that. All technology, however, has a potential to impact society in some way, whether significant or minuscule. It can affect many different tracts of our cultures around the world such as medicine, government, agriculture, science, business, and education. Education could be the most powerful, however, because of the weight it holds to mold the future generations and how they will impact all other areas of our economy.
Ecology today can be defined as “the study of the interrelationships between living things and their environment”. It is important to understand that when we say that ecology includes the “environment”, we are talking about everything that is external to an organism, all the biotic and abiotic. Nowadays it also attempts to understand and explain the how and why of the origins and mechanisms of interactions.
Human geography is defined as “The study of interrelationships between people, places and environment and how these vary spatially and temporally across and between locations” (Castree, Kitchin and Rogers, 2013). It looks at how society shapes the environment and vice versa. Although physical geography and human geography are separate fields they both concentrate on spatial processes; physical geography more on the natural and physical sciences and human geography on the way in which human lives are shaped by processes in nature (Castree et al., 2013). A key principle of
