Thank you so much for the invitation to interview at WVSOM and the opportunity to speak with you during the panel session. After leaving the interview, I felt very at home and welcomed to the campus. While living in the South, Richard refuses to accept the racial stereotypes imposed on him as a black man. A convocation is a special gathering of a group of individuals formally assembled for a special purpose. North Carolina A&T’s Fall Convocation was an assembling for academic and athletic recognition that brought great encouragement. The great speaker gave vital information regarding tactics to push toward success for students and teachers. Dr. Anthony Graham’s great motto, “Keep your hand in the plow, hold on,” is very impactful and has great meaning, encouraging you to reach your set goals.

Florence Kelly expresses her disgust towards Americas hideous and abusive treatment of children by appealing to the readers emotions, causing one to contemplate on what is right and what is reality. Reality being, an unethical society that abuses children and refuses to change despite the undisputable cruelty.

The short story “Speech Sounds” is a science fiction story written by Octavia Butler. This essay portrays a central theme that really opened my eyes as well as many others. This theme is to never take your ability to communicate for granted. Communication is a huge part of our culture and civilization. I never truly realized how important communication really was until reading this story. Without it, we cannot express our feelings in a correct manner. Not being able to connect with other individuals results in it being very hard to cooperate with others, causing chaos amongst society. In a short amount of time, the world would turn on each other causing mass amounts of violence. Likewise, this is similar to the story “Speech Sounds.” There are many takeaways one can have after reading this story.

Octavia Butler, the author of “Speech Sounds” and many other short stories, is a well-known author for her feminist point of view which might be attributed to her father who died when she was young and her mother taking on the role as the father figure as well as the mother figure. After the bus stop, Valerie Rye, the protagonist in this short story who goes by Rye for a lot of the short story, met Obsidian who Rye assumes his name to be; also, he used to be a LAPD officer. Rye immediately trusts Obsidian to drive her to Pasadena to see what is left of her family. In Octavia Butlers “Speech Sounds,” the men and women have reverse gender roles throughout this short story than we are used to because men in our world tend to have more power over women.

I spoke to Matt Murphy APM for the cottages and JD Sinais PM for the cottages. Matt Murphy was present during the inspection and said the shower leaked due to a caulking issue. It is Poole’s plumbing responsibility to caulk around the shower scussion plate.

In the recording of Emily's practice speech, she states that learning English is important because this will allow her to go to a university. Considering that both of her parents are attending graduate school and Emily is thinking about higher education at such a young age suggests that her motivation level is exceptionally high. Her home country, Korea, supports educational success through the idea that education defines one's socioeconomic status, health, and level of independence (asiasociety.org). Considering that her parents are both attending graduate school, they may have limited time to help Emily develop strong English skills in reading and writing. In addition to this, they are not learning the same English vocabulary that Emily needs
