While reading about Dionysian and Apollonian, I wrote down a list of traits than describe an came to a conclusion that I have the best of both worlds. An Apollonian is a personality that is considered to be very proper, always on a schedule and thinking ahead, and very practical in the decisions that they make in everyday life. A Dionysian personality is just the opposite of an Apollonian. Their personalities are dominated by emotions and spontaneity.
When it comes to Apollonian traits, you think of rationalist and logical being. One trait of mine is that I’m very disciplined. I follow ay rule given to be my a higher up. It's the logical thing to do. For example, I have never been the type of student to be considered a troublemaker. Back in elementary many students would not follow directions to get a couple laughs which was very free of them kind of like a dionysian. Another thing that i noticed was work. I’m sure many of us work for

For example, my leisure activities don’t include studying, reading, working, etc they mainly including video games, computer coding, soccer. The reason why is because they make me happy. They don’t really help me as a person besides the fact that they make me happy. One trait I noticed was while I was listening to music. Music is listened by everybody for the fact that they love it and that they are passionate for it. I myself love listening to music to have fun or relax. It expresses my freedom. It even helps me come up with new ideas by expanding my train of thought and imagination. One final trait was religion. I grew up catholic, going to church every sunday. I grew with faith in mainly anything involving my life. I always saw faith as something that revolved my childhood. Weather it was having faith in passing my test, or having faith in winning my soccer final, I always saw myself believing in success. Although I’m not as faithful as I used to be, I still see that faith in
The one I identified with the most was the tenth characteristic in which Lake and Baeyer talked about time management. I find that this attribute is valuable to me because of how I have used it in the past. Managing
From the first moment I could remember, I was taught to have faith in what I could not see. I believed Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, and the Tooth Fairy, despite the fact that I had never, even once, laid eyes on them. My family has always consistently attended church, so the idea of believing in a God that cannot be seen with the naked eye was something that I just accepted. As I have grown older, I have realized that there is a whole lot more to faith than just simply stating that something has an existence.
Faith can ebb and flow through a lifetime, and it is rare for it to remain constant. This was one of the main points in Christian Wiman’s My Bright Abyss. He discusses that just as we grow as individuals; we must also grow in our faith. At this point in my senior year I was going through a particularly hard time, and was having trouble trusting in God and believing everything would be okay. In hindsight this may have been a good thing in the long run, as I was more receptive to the messages I received at NCYC, particularly with respect to what prayer is, and how to pray.
The patterns of culture are associated with the characteristics in the distinction between the gods Apollo and Dionysius. Apollo was the god of light and Dionysius was the god of wine. Therefore, the characteristics are referred to as Apollonian and Dionysian. During the Mesolithic, Dionysian tendencies gave way to Apollonian tendencies.
As far as I know the Apollonian and the Dionysian are both the sons of (God of the sky’s) Zeus, Apollonian is the god of reason and the rational, while the Dionysian is the god of the irrational and chaos, and that is coming from the Greek mythology. From that mythology I understand that the Apollonian is based on reason and the logic thinking, and the Dionysian is based on chaos and
Many people would agree that without faith, the world would be in chaos. The book Christian Foundation by Kathleen Fischer and Thomas Hart gives an interpretation on faith in our time. Many people would question the definition of faith. Faith is a gift, which is given by God to have trust in him and belief in him. This book is a great entry in anyone's life that has speculation on his or her own faith. The book has many ways into understanding ones own religion. It discusses the Bible, Jesus, Church, God's existence and Images of God. All of these chapters helped me get a better interpretation of what my religion entailed.
Music is my life when I was little my dad introduced me to all types of music. We listen to hip-hop, reggae, old school, country, and jazz. We believe that as long as it has a good beat and a message that what makes that a great song.Being that my dad is from New Jersey I have this Northern flavor to my lifestyle. It is truly present in my taste in music. Many people say that I'm a little weird when they listen to the type of music I listen too.
An art form that contains both Apollonian and Dionysian characteristics is rap music. Although rap music has been categorized by some as rowdy and to some extent pointless, there are some songs that contain both. Rap music for the most part has a much stronger Dionysian side because of the beat of the music and the aggression of the rapper. Some rap music contains sex, profanity, drugs, etc. which is its dark side or Dionysian element.
I believe what people decide to do with their spare time says a lot about who they are and what motivates them. There is many hobbies people choose to engage in, a couple I enjoy are reading and participating in relay for life. I love reading because it allows me to be taken to another place. Also Relay for Life is important to me because of all of the amazing things the American Cancer Society does for patients. There is many more reasons that I choose to spend a lot of my time doing these two activities.
“He used the names Apollonian and Dionysian for the two forces because Apollo, as the sun-god, represents light, clarity, and form, whereas Dionysus, as the wine-god, represents drunkenness and ecstasy.” (Leeming) People use these terms to describe different things. One main thing they are used for is to compare between people. If a person is more Apollonian they are more likely to follow the rules and do what is right.
Another attribute that describes me is decisiveness. While training for my Private Pilot’s license, I was flying a solo flight cross country and encountered a GPS failure. I shifted to backup sectional charts and VOR navigation, thus continuing the mission. During my time at the
One of them being conscientiousness. Conscientious people are very driven and orderly. They set goals and firm plans to achieve these goals. Rarely are they spontaneous or disorganized. My score within the Big Five Personality Profile was moderate for conscientiousness. I would say that I do exhibit some of these characteristics. I can be very organized and reliable. As a weakness, I find that I am not always a self-starter. I will set goals and stick to them, but need that push from others to get started. For instance, I was given the opportunity to work on an exciting new project at work that involves direct feedback from employees that I would personally deliver to upper management. This would be a big responsibility as I would be representing hundreds of employees and voice the current concerns of our group. I was asked to think it over. While processing the position, three others volunteered and I lost out of the opportunity. I took my time and wasn’t as organized in my decision making, therefore I missed out greatly.
Another characteristic of my personality is care. Despite my ever-present introversion, I have always harbored a deep care for most people. Early in my childhood, my parents taught the importance of caring for others. Throughout my life, I have always put others before myself. Sometimes I do this out of genuine care for the other party, but other times, I find myself doing this so the other
Dionysus, on the other hand, invents the timbrel, it is a drum beaten to furious, erratic rhythms that express his compulsive nature. Apollo retains abstract intellect, he is an educator of young men, and promotes logical and rational thought. Dionysus desires irrational power, he liberates humans to explore there potential for emotional and behavioral extremes, he allows his unconscious to flourish, and he is embodied by spontaneous emotion. Greek tradition said that each year Apollo left his sanctuary at Delphi to live with the Hyperboreans, a mythical tribe inhabiting the extreme north. When he did that, Dionysus reigned in Delphi for the 3 winter months. During these months a noticeable change would come over people. Spontaneity came over everyone, and the concept of rational thought would be lost until Apollo's return. Obviously Dionysus was much more liberal when compared to Apollo.
My qualities and characteristics have always been to do the best that I can at everything,
