Introduction International trade is a crucial component of the apparel industry. For this assignment, I have gathered data spanning from 2005 to 2015 to analyze importing and exporting between the United States and Thailand. By using the two databases OTEXA and UN Comtrade database, I was able to identify trends in terms of both units and US dollars. Otexa Overall, the United States consistently imports more textiles than apparel from Thailand and the amount has considerably decreased over the 10-year span. In terms of Textiles, 1,051,815,014 units were imported from Thailand in 2005, which was the most in all 10 years. Man-Made Fiber Non-Apparel Based off the chart and table below illustrating the imports of man-made fiber apparel and man-made fiber non-apparel from Thailand, it is evident that significantly more man-made fiber apparel is imported. The value of apparel imported ranges anywhere from $502,136,945 to $641,985,816. However, in 2009 value of apparel decreased a little over one hundred million dollars. Following the decrease, value slowly began to increase as the years went one. The value of non-apparel is considerably less and stays pretty constant from year to year. It’s evident that there are significantly more textiles exported than apparel. There is no stable rise or decline in terms of textile imports from year to year.
