Environmental conditions can directly impact one’s health and safety. . “Primary prevention is the simplest, and most economical way of addressing these possible threats to health,” (Davis, 2007). Environmental assessments serve an important component in determining the degree of safety, functionality, and in identifying interventions to reduce barriers to safety and ensure health benefits. For this assessment, the “Home Environmental Health and Safety Tool” by Davis, was utililzed (2007). It is referred to as Appendix A. The L family reside in a 2-story single family home, built over 100 years ago, in a modest rural neighborhood. It is unknown if radon testing has been conducted. It is noted that the upper story has an exterior balcony extending the length of the house. The yard, both front and back, is well kept and without obstructions. No fence is observed. There is no exterior garage noted. A patio with one step leading into the house is noted in the backyard. The interior of the home has a large open living area/den, formal living area, dining room, and kitchen and is clean and tidy. A fireplace is noted …show more content…
It is suggested that they visit the CDC (Center for Disease Control) website at https://www.cdc.gov to gain further knowledge regarding the risks lead, radon, and carbon monoxide pose and for further preventative measures. A visit to the local fire department is suggested to gain information in implementing a plan for disaster/fire. Family members are encouraged to practice this plan periodically in order to stay prepared. Additionally, an emergency call list is
Environmental conditions can directly impact one’s health and safety. Davis explains, that primary prevention through assessments of the home and community are
The purpose of this paper is to assess the town of Lusby, Maryland to determine any environmental concerns that could be a potential or real health risk to the community. A windshield survey was conducted by driving around the town to assess the environment, including air, water, and land. The location and surroundings, including manmade and natural, were identified and taken into consideration during the driving tour. Also assessed where the people themselves by observing community vitality and general appearance, social and economic conditions, health resources, social functioning, and attitudes toward health. Insufficiencies will be identified and diagnosed to help the community thrive to maintain or improve health.
The environment and the health of the surrounding population go hand in hand. The Environmental Protection Agency takes on this ever so important mission of protecting them both. The mission statement of the EPA states, “The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Small Business Programs is to support the protection of human health and the environment by advocating and advancing the business, regulatory, and environmental compliance concerns of small and socio-economically disadvantaged businesses, and minority academic institutions (US Enviromental Protection Agency, 2010).” The impact of its mission can be defined clearly as it examines the impact of contamination in the air, the water, and the land on human health.
The primary health issues that come with the impact of air pollution are asthma, cardiovascular illnesses and premature mortality. These health issues are due to pollution and the poor air quality such as ozone. Thus, human health becomes a concern and issue. The individuals who are usually more vulnerable to such illnesses are the children and elderly. For example, there’s approximately 162,438 children under the age of and 258,586 adults aged 65 years and older in Riverside county that are prone to environmental health illnesses (cdph). According to UCLA institute of the Environment and Sustainability,
The interior of the home had a bright, open floor plan. There was a huge family room, and a good sized eat-in kitchen with a great amount of white cabinetry, plenty of green counters, which included a work counter, and neutral floors, a white dishwasher, and a slider that
There were many bright images provided. The spacious carpeted living home had a wood burning fireplace and two sets of French doors. There was a roomy kitchen with plenty of cabinetry and a stove and dishwasher. The image appeared to be somewhat out-of-focus. There was a generous sized dining area with an eye-catching arched entry to
According to the Gentry rubric Nick Smith is a phonetic and transitional speller. For example, in Appendix C1 Nick did the gentry spelling test. Nick is at the beginning stage for both reading and writing. Nick can write about immediate experiences that himself and others can read. Most of Nicks writing includes capital letters and periods, but they are not always in the right places. Some words are printed directly on the lines, but most of his words do not fit on the line. I think it is very important to provide Nick with an editing checklist when he is done writing. Since, Nick is in grade two his editing checklist should not be too long. For example, the editing checklist for Nick can include check for capitals and punctuation including
There were many clear, bright interior images of the open floor plan that had fresh paint, new floors, and appliances. There was a long entry with neutral flooring. There were formal living and dining rooms with a trey ceiling and a lovely lighting fixture. In addition, there was a duplicate image of the living room.

The estate has four double bedrooms; one of the bedrooms is an extension, allowing the room to obtain two double beds, or a double bed and an area for study. There is a formal lounge room as well as a combined dining and lounge room area; there is a kitchen and a pantry. The bathroom is a combined toilet, shower and bathtub and vanity in three closed off areas and there is an internal laundry with a toilet and room for a washer and a dryer. The kitchen has a granite bench top, gas oven and a double
When taking a look at capacity as a whole, Appendix D illustrates demand throughout the summer, winter, and shoulder seasons by contrasting weekdays to weekends. Shoulder season is understood to be the months that do fall between summer and winter months. Right off the bat, we are able to appreciate that on weekends the restaurant generates much more revenue than it does during the week, which supports management’s decision to keep a light staff during these times.
Remember you and your families health is key, good nutrition and hygiene are very important as well as maintaining our indoor pollution to the best of our abilities.
Health effects of air and water pollutants are major environmental issues that need to be better understood and controlled in the United States and globally. This issue is so important for many reasons, but for this discussion it is being identified to give a voice to the urgency to the world to pay attention to how our environment is failing into a catastrophic level of decline because of these types of pollutants. In order to overcome the pollutants there needs to be a call to action. We need to bring these things into check which means their levels are in need of being lower. “Pollution can occur from natural causes or from human activities. Discussions about the effects of air pollution have focused mainly on human health but attention is being directed to environmental quality and amenity as well” (Air and Water Pollution, 2015, p. 1).
As humans, it is important that we understand what our built environment is. The built environment is human activities and their interactions to the environment that are shaped by our social economic activities. Furthermore, it is also imperative to know what pollutants are, “pollutants are any gas, liquid or solid substance that have been emitted into the atmosphere and are in high enough concentrations to be considered harmful to the environment, or human, animal and plant health” (B.C. Air Quality , 2013).
