Academic Opportunities Reflection This particular session of CPD was very interesting and thought provoking, to say the least. Over the summer, I actually started to think about what I wanted to do when it came time to choose electives. The options seemed sort of barebones at the time but, this CPD session changed a lot of that. Before the session, I had no idea of the breadth of options we had available to us in order to mold our careers. After the session, I walked out with a lot of thoughts racing in my head. It is a quite exciting time minus all of the exams we have coming up. In this reflection, I will discuss what particular options interested me and why. I will also discuss my view of residency and why I may pursue it. Out of the elective concentrations we could take, I think that either the pharmaceutical science research, health economics and outcomes research, or the pharmacy management concentration would be a good fit for me. I definitely want to try and get involved in some research but, I also think being able to gain an upper level managerial position in a hospital or community pharmacy could be a potential career path. I’m still not sure exactly what I want to do but, I was at least able to rule out a few concentrations out such as the entrepreneurial pharmacy concentration. I do not think I would be able to start up my own pharmacy especially with how competitive it is out there. I would like to help manage one but, not outright own one because it is a fairly large risk to do so, in my opinion. Another option I am somewhat interested in is the MBA dual degree program. I feel that this degree would be very valuable to me if a pursued a position in pharmacy management.
The career path that interests me the most is becoming an academic pharmacist. I have a love and a knack (as my peers would say) for teaching and explaining concepts. Mind you, I am not in any way a genius, but there have been a few courses where I understood the concepts so well that I loved being able to teach them. Namely, learning about drug metabolism in medicinal chemistry and as a precursor, basically everything in organic chemistry. In order to obtain a career that would allow me to pursue my love of teaching, I feel
The first and main reason why I believe that I should be a teacher is that I like to work with young children. I would prefer to work in an elementary level grade. Considering myself as a creative person, that would be helpful to think up of multiple enjoyable as well as educational activities for the kids. I would dedicate a significant deal of time thinking of hands on activities for the kids.
As the coming years approach, I want my future to hold both the passion to explore new opportunities and the strength to overcome new challenges. With the experiences of my high school career, I aspire to take all the things I learned to transition into a college environment where my ideas can be challenged and shared. Where I can learn from others; where I can seek the opportunity to make a direct impact towards saving lives. I believe I can do great things. Through tenacity I will not only be gratified in becoming a doctor, but also be able to share my compassion for others through
From there, I began to explore more of what a career in pharmacy would mean and take the steps necessary to pursue my dream. As I reflect on the past and look forward, becoming a Doctor of Pharmacy is still the clear answer to achieving both my immediate and long-term goals. My immediate goal is to work towards additional education to be better equipped to utilize my undergraduate degree. In particular, I have a strong interest in applying my knowledge of biochemistry to the area of pharmacy in order to better understand how different medications work, how to help patients understand their medications, and how to solve problems to better care for patients. Ultimately, through achieving a Doctor of Pharmacy degree, I desire to develop a meaningful career that would allow for life-long learning and impacting lives.
After my observations, I have learned a lot about how the the medical aspect of the health care system worked. I always had the mindset that the doctors were the ones who ran everything in a hospital or a clinic. Upon observing, I realized that this was false and that it took teamwork, cooperation, and communication to help create an environment to best serve its patients. When I came into the University of Michigan as well as the Health Sciences Scholar Program, I had set my target to go into family medicine in order to pursue a career as a family physician. I also saw that there were many health disparities and inequities among patients in hospitals as well. I thought maybe I could help fix this if I became a physician. After my observations, I had an ambivalent feeling if I should still continue with what my heart was set on. I never really thought about exploring the vast array of other health-related professions. There were many fields of health professions I had really never thought about and this class as well as my observations had really helped open my eyes to the complexity of the health system to make it work.

I admire how the university allows students to spend their first two years taking various general courses in the College of LSA that help them decide on a future that is fitting for them. Although confident I want to continue my education in the College of Pharmacy, I will have two years to determine if I am interested in pursuing a PharmD, PhD in pharmaceutical sciences or another alternative path. What appealed to me that most schools do not have is Michigan’s REU Program that allows undergraduate students to have research opportunities to help advance them early in their college careers. I also look forward to gaining practical experience and clinical experience if enrolled. The College of LSA and the College of Pharmacy are both conveniently located on Central Campus, close to the heart of the social and educational scenes. Being able to take classes and live in the most inhabited part of campus allows me to get involved more easily, while everything is at the tip of my
These programs allow PAs to complete specialized training to become more knowledgeable about their chosen field. However, there are positives and negatives to completing a residency program
Over the past century the practice of pharmacy has evolved from a field with few specialties typically focused on compounding and filling prescriptions to modern pharmacy practice which has many different specialties. Due to the many opportunities in the field of pharmacy one assignment I completed was the APhA Career Pathway Evaluation Program to see which specialties I hay have the most interest in based on a series of questions I answered. In the following paper, I will list and discuss these results, point out some of the positive and negative attributes to each career choice, and will make an assessment on which careers may be the best form me and some of the options I disagree with.
For a long time I didn’t know what I would like to pursue as a career but when I reflected on my life I realized some of my favorite times in life were when I was teaching someone something and when I was learning. In my future career as a high school teacher I will able to do both of those things. Seeing peoples’ eyes light up with interest because they
I always thought I would be a teacher and I would make differences in lives and it would be the greatest experience in the world for me, yet being a teacher wasn’t enough, I had a need to expand my education. I decided that perhaps I needed a new career, however, I felt certain education remained my passion. I began to explore new areas of education and I realized I still want to be a member of a classroom, a school and curriculum. I aspire to guide those leading our classrooms.
The career path that I have chosen for myself is pharmacy technician. I have always wanted some sort of pharmaceutical job, and a pharmacy technician seems like a career that would be do-able and enjoyable for me.
I chose Education as my career path because I have always wanted to spend my life in a profession that I enjoy and that I want to go to each day and not dread over. I want to teach children to be lifelong learners because that is what I am, and you can never learn to much information. I want children to enjoy learning new things and want to find out new things as they go throughout their own lives, just as I enjoy learning new ways of connecting to and educating them.
The career that I am interested in pursuing is a Pharmacists. The number one reason I have decided to become a pharmacist is because I want to help and assist others. The satisfaction of me helping a patient get better quickly is the motivation that drives me. The second reason is the act of working with other health care professionals. Pharmacist have to communicate with other professionals as a team to avoid errors. Communication and connection is a major key in today’s society, in which I like with a passion. The big career dream began when my older cousin sister became the first in the family to graduate from college with a college degree. Her getting a well-paying job and taking care of my aunt and uncle led me to work hard and achieve pharmacy just like her. HCC will help me pursue my goals by helping me get high grades and achieve a high GPA. By me getting an Associates in Science I would then transfer to a big university like University of Houston to continue for higher education.
I have been on a number of college visits to pharmacy schools. I have been to the University of Findlay, the University of Toledo, Ohio Northern University, and the University of Cincinnati. I want to be positive that I will love where I spend the next six years of my life pursuing my dream. I have done an adequate amount of research on my own also to know what pharmacists have to do and if I would like being a pharmacist. Very soon I will be contacting a pharmacist to set up a time to job shadow them. Doing this I will have an idea of what I could be doing every day after I graduate college. These things are considerable factors in determining where I would go to college to become a pharmacist and if I would like this job.
The career that intrigues me is elementary education, which is kindergarten through 8th grade. I am engrossed in this career because I have little siblings that I had to teach them things like reading, math, and writing properly. Also, I just love, love, love little kids and to watch them grow. My personality goes with this career because I am a very kind and considerate person and I like people. My values go with this career because I like having the defiance and the opportunity to do my work in new ways and with independence and diversity. Also, I like feat which is having the feeling that what I do in my work is crucial and making a contribution. Lastly I value my workplace and having the pleasure of working in a satisfying, attractive work space where the supervisors and co-workers are supportive and friendly. I expect that being a teacher at a school will have all these conditions. Kindergarten and elementary school teachers work in public or private schools. Seeing students develop new skills and learn information can be very rewarding.
