1. Apple is seeking to acquire talent to help it design and build microchips. There are a few different ways to do this. Some were outlined in the reading. Apple can buy companies that perform these functions, thereby acquiring not only the talent at these companies but their intellectual property as well. Another approach is to go to job fairs to seek out this talent. This approach might bring in some people, but the most talented people in the industry are likely to already be working for a company. Thus, poaching talent from competitors is another possible recruitment strategy. One approach would be to target specific companies. Samsung is a good candidate for poaching, because it has a team of people working on chips for Apple. If Apple announces the decision to take chip production in-house, these people will potentially be deployed elsewhere within the Samsung organization. Apple could make a point to publicly announce quite loudly and in Korean their interest in anybody who has worked on their chips in the past. Apple can use enticements to lure anybody from that group to leave Samsung or wherever else they worked to come to Cupertino. Another method that Apple could use is to utilize employee referrals (Recruiter.com, 2012). If the company already has 100 people or more working on chips, and has recently acquired a startup chip maker, then these people must know others in the industry. Presumably the startup, P.A.
