When asked to define a leader, most would define one by naming traits such as self-confidence, ambition, and determination. Although these are great qualities, this does not define a leader. A leader is someone in a position of authority who has ability to influence a group through effective communication reaching a common goal. (Robbins, DeCenzo, & Coulter, 2015) Effective leaders work diligently to motive and inspire groups through their actions. This paper is a synopsis of communication and how effective leadership can drive an organization to success.

2) Democratic Leadership- Leadership defined as supervisors including members in the decision making process.
3) Laissez Faire Leadership- Leadership playing little to no role in the decision process. (Coggins, E. (2011)
Discovered by Dr. James McGregor Burns, Transformational Leadership relates to engagement and connectivity. Dr. Bernard Bass expounded Burn’s work with transactional leadership in his publication Work Leadership. Burns and Bass suggest that leaders should raise consciousness to their followers by sharing the importance of the values and goals of an organization, in turn, motivating followers to address higher management level needs. In 1985, Bass released Leadership and Performance beyond expectation breaking down transformational leadership into four parts.
1) Idealized Influence- Gaining trust from their follower, the leader/supervisor acts like a role model.
2) Inspirational Motivation-Whereas the leader sets high expectations, encouraging his subordinates to achieve higher goals.
3) Intellectual Stimulation- Followers are encouraged to become innovative
