There are many reasons why one can relate Robert Pickton to the Sociological theory of Feminism, to begin, the Feminist theory relates to the equality of both genders which can be separated into several basic ideas. The criminal behaviour of Robert Pickton can be analyzed through this theory because of the many actions and trends throughout his life that point us in this direction. Pickton’s victims were mainly female, this could be because of his feeling of male dominance and superiority and the need to prove and express these feelings onto the woman he murdered. Pickton grew up through stages of rejection; first by his mom and then by the people around him, mainly woman. This rejection formed Pickton into an individual full of rage and who had a severe intolerance to the woman around him. The base of his rejection and separation from individual interactions with his own age stems from his mother. His mother as discussed before was a hostile and brutal individual who showed little affection to those around her. This forced rejection and separation caused Pickton to form his target around woman. He grew up feeling the need to exude dominance and power over woman because of how belittled he was by one. Already feeling the need to show this power, he targeted a specific group of woman whom he deemed unfit to live in the same society as him. Through experience, Robert grew up to believe that in order for people to be successful they must go through adversities and have to deal with the same unimaginable things he had to, he then forced this belief onto others and saw prostitution as an unworthy way of life. Functionalism is the understanding of how social institutions fill social needs and that every practice or culture in society provides a form of stability within the whole. The reason we need to do this is to understand why they make the decisions they do, what their versions of right and wrong are, and what they want out of everything they are doing; their final goal. We also have to see how the three separate identities develop and the power of each within the individual. It is also important to see how the unconscious and conscious mind of the killer work, this will make it easier to comprehend what is driving them.
Psychoanalysis is a theory which is used to understand repressed or unconscious impulses, and conflicts the individual has internally or externally in their lives.
Functionalism is a theory which allows an individual to understand their place in society, and understands the relationship between physical input and behavioural output. It also believes that society is a system of components that are internally connected and that all the components work together to maintain stability in the society.
Feminism is a theory which begs to understand the nature of gender equality in theoretical or philosophical situations. It would be examined on how the genders work in society, social systems and structures
