Louis Armstrong was born on August 4, 1901 in New Orleans, Louisiana. He was raised by Mary Albert his mother and not so much by William Armstrong his father. He had a hard childhood, his father was a factory worker who left right after he was born his mother who turned to prostitution most of the time for money would leave him behind with his grandmother. Louis Armstrong was forced to leave school in the 5th grade to start working. He worked for a Jewish family picking up trash and delivering coal. The Jewish family pushed Louis Armstrong to sing while he was young. In 1912 he got arrested on New Years Eve for shooting his step fathers gun in the air, he was arrested on the spot then sent to Colored Waif’s Home for Boys. While he was there he got musical lessons on the cornet and that’s when he fell in love with music. He was released from the home in 1914 and started pursuing his life of making music.

Baba was a strong, loyal and well-respected man in Afghanistan. Amir believed his father thought he was weak. Hassan and Amir were best friends until Hassan was assaulted and Amir did nothing to help him during or after the assault. Hassan and Ali were eventually forced to leave their home after Ali finds out Amir betrayed them. Despite Baba’s loyalty to Ali they part ways. Bashana Haba’ah was composed by Nurit Hurish, composer of over 1,000 songs and one of Israel’s most prolific and diverse composers, in 1967. This piece in particular comes from Israel and is a Hebrew song. Jewish music first originated in the Middle East area about 2,000 years ago, specifically in the land of Israel, and has continued to spread from there, soon reaching America, where we now sing and perform it today. Something interesting about this piece is that it was written shortly after the Six-Day War and a lot of the poetry throughout the piece creates a very strong image of a world in peace, without war.
