Archery Archery is one of the oldest sports, and art forms, known to man. Dating back to before 25,000 BC, archery has evolved and grown from simply a means of killing food and warfare, to more of an art form. Today, archery is a very common sport present in many areas of the world and throughout many different cultures.
In Africa, there have been arrow heads that have dated back to before 25,000 BC, and may be dated as far back as 50,000 BC. This suggests the use of a bow and arrow at this time. Archery was probably developed in accordance with the spear thrower, or atlatl. To the prehistory human, archery was the most effective means as to kill their food. The best hunters used this method to subdue prey from long distances, which

The Egyptians also created arrow that were so slim and light that when shot, they could travel up to 400 yards. Over the next few thousand years, archery became a very popular and effective weapon used during warfare. Archery remained the main weapon in warfare up until 1520 AD when the musket took over as the primary weapon.
Archery began to take on its more artful side around 1000 BC. During this time, Chinese nobility were sent to special schools where the art of archery was passed on to them. Here they learned not only skills to shoot the bow and arrow, but also were trained in thought and meditation for shooting archery.
Over the next few thousand years, archery became a serious practice. Not only was it very common in times of warfare and maintaining subsistence, but also times of leisure. In 1457 AD, King James II of England decreed that football and golf were to be banned because they caused too much interference with archery practice. Also, King Edward IV of England banned the early form of the game cricket because it as well interfered with practicing archery. Archery had become a very popular sport for many of the upper class and royalty of the day. When traveling to visit each other, kings would shoot their bow and arrows at great distances to show off their immense skill in the sport. This practice eventually evolved into the occurrence of archery tournaments. The first known official archery tournament, entitled “Ancient Scorton Arrow”, was founded in
Sports, hunting and games were very well-liked in the Elizabethan Era. Although sports in the 1500’s were not baseball and basketball, like some our most popular, they did compete in many that we still do today. Some examples of these athletics are archery, hammer-throw, wrestling, and game ball, which is comparable to today's football or rugby. In addition, animal blood sports were played, which included bear baiting, bull baiting and more. The tournaments that the athletes participated in provided great entertainment for both upper-class and lower-class and typically lasted several days. One other common sporting activity in the Elizabethan Era was hunting. The nobles and upper-class naturally enjoyed hunting as a game or pastime. Multiple
Secondly, bows and arrows were most likely used for protection purposes. The two tools are occasionally made from wood and have been in use for a long period of
First, the weapons are so very different. I'm sure without me explaining this whatsoever, anybody could note that a bow and a rifle have about as much similarity as a mouse and a lion. However, you can look at these two weapons on a much deeper level. Not only at how they're different, but also how inferior one is too the other--the bow to the rifle. Without debate, the bow is a much less effective weapon because a great bowhunter can shoot 80 yards comfortably; whereas, a great rifle hunter can take 1000 yard shots. A mediocre guy can hop out of his F-150, stumble to the fence, and shoot deer at 200 yards--no problem. So why do people continue to use a bow? This is a hard question to answer, but I believe people continue to use a bow because they want more of a hunt. Some people like a challenge--these people bowhunt.
There are two main things to consider when looking at archery and the physics concepts behind it. First there is the bow, which basically is a device that uses human force over a distance and converts that into stored Mechanical Potential Energy. The second factor involves that stored Mechanical Energy being

There were many sports that became popular with the citizens of Elizabethan England. Nobles often participated in archery, bowling, dice, hammer-throwing and most known tennis (“Alchin Elizabethan Sports”). Furthermore, nobles watched wrestling and the bloodiest sports including bear and bull baiting and dog and cock fighting. For example the queen often appeared at these events (Alchin “Elizabethan Bear & Bull Baiting”). Sports began to come from other countries and continents as people would travel to England, consequently making tennis the most popular sport of the upper classes as it originated in medieval France.
They were pretty late invention but the bow and arrow was an ultimate stone age weapon, in some parts of the world they have only been in use for 30,000 years or so. This weapon needed a number of inventions to occur before it could be finalized. First of all they needed very strong tine or string, they needed a sharp stone tool to shape the bow and the arrow and the possession to split very sharp, fine stone for the arrow tips. The skill to capture or kill prey from a distance gave our stone age man a huge advantage.
Bow hunting can be a fun and exiting sport to do. But first you must learn how to do so. There several steps involved becoming a successful bow-hunter. You must have proper equipment, good hunting habitat, and skill with a little technique.
A man's hunting skills and inclinations are fostered early in childhood, often beginning when he is only a toddler. Toy bows and arrows are given to small children at a young age. Stationary

The history of weapons started centuries ago when cave people initially developed a weapon called a bow and arrow, for hunting purposes. They created this weapon from yew or elm for the bow and the arrow’s shaft, and used animal ligaments, or sinew to add tension to the bow. Archeologists have also found arrow heads made of sharp rocks and angled bones from different types of animals. These artifacts are all over the world displayed beautifully in museums to make new civilization realize the important role weapons have played in daily life.
