Tragedy can be shown with great archetypes. Director Michael Apted used archetypes in Gorillas in the Mist to show tragedy. Diane Fossey, the tragic hero is put on a quest after seeing Dr. Louis Leaky’s presentation on Gorillas in Africa. She is called to action but in the end falls to a stronger enemy. In detail Diane is the tragic hero. For example she is an innocent women, who face harsh and unexpected conditions. She was not prepared for what was coming. This woman had no experience but in the other hand was determined and passionate about the gorillas. Even though she is determined she will still fall in the end since she is a tragic hero. Her mentor and the man who got her quest started was Dr. Louis Leaky. He was an anthropologist who showed her the gorillas in Africa in his presentation. He even helped her get to Africa and start her quest. When she got there she met Sembaragre who was a tracker. He is her loyal side kick who will go to anywhere with her. He is an honest man and Diane can trust him. She also befriends the photographer, Bob Campbell. At first she dislikes him because the animals didn't like him. On the contrary she became very close to him and they fall in love. These archetypes help develop the story and make it more

An archetype is a model or ideal example in which other things are patterned. There are many archetypes that could represent many characters; but for my character, Haley Kincain, the caregiver archetype represents her the best. Haley represents a caregiver due to constantly caring for her father and his Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, along with helping her friends with problems like divorce and bullying. I found her to be pragmatic, considerate and patient throughout the book.
2. Looking at the candle before me, it was hard to imagine that it was made from the tallow of a sheep.
An archetype is defined as an image, story-pattern, character, setting, symbol, or situation that recurs frequently in literature and in life. It demonstrates universal human experiences and associates strongly with readers through a subconscious understanding. In the Epic of Gilgamesh the main character, Gilgamesh, is an example of a superheroic archetypal hero. He took on an epic quest for everlasting life by following the archetypal steps of a hero’s journey. Through suffering due to tragedy, realizing the nature of his quest, seeking help from a mentor, experiencing failure, and returning home with a companion, Gilgamesh’s story followed the situational archetype of a hero’s journey.
With every corner we turn in today’s culture, we become more and more aware of the archetypes that surround us. Archetypes are the works of a typical character, situation, setting, or symbol that can be found in fantasy and reality. An example would be the renowned medieval story Sir Gawain and the Green Knight by Pearl Poet. The author permeates the story with situational, symbolic, and character archetypes that illustrate the profound life of Sir Gawain. Sir Gawain was apprehensive of his journey at first, but as time passes, he began to make choices that unveils to the audience the true flawed knight that he was.
In the novels The Odyssey by Homer and The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, there are characters that can be defined by their traits as certain archetypes. All novels and films contain archetypes that allow their audience to understand and relate more to the character's personality and journey. Telemachus, Poseidon, and Penelope are characters from The Odyssey that can be classified as fitting into the bildungsroman, vengeance villain, and matron archetypes. Santiago and Melchizedek are characters from The Alchemist that can be identified as a flawed hero/seeker and a sage archetype. There are numerous archetype possibilities for characters to have, and throughout a character’s journey, those possibilities are slowly eliminated.
In the novel, The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini, the author takes the reader into the fictional world of Amir and Hassan, two best friends who face the untold realities of their childhood as they struggle to cope with guilt and heartbreaking losses. The story is told from the perspective of Amir, a Pashtun who grows up in a privileged society and lives with his father, Baba and his best friend and Hazara servant, Hassan. One of the major turning points in the story occurs when Amir leaves Hassan to be raped by a bully, ruining their relationship for the rest of his life. While dealing with the guilt of betraying Hassan, who he later learns is his half-brother, Amir learns shocking truths about his father that alter his perspective of Baba
In Homers epic poem “The Odyssey” there are many archetypes, many of which were the origin of the archetype. An archetype is a character type, place, or symbol, every culture shares. In “The Odyssey” Homer uses archetypes to evoke meaning to the story. Some examples of archetypes in “The Odyssey” are the temptress, and the father-son conflict.
In literature an archetype is used as a character, image or theme that exemplifies a universal meaning or a simple human experience. For this occasion the archetype is referring to a journey. The conventional stages of the archetypal journey are departure, initiation, testing one’s ability, descending into the underworld, and then returning and reintegrating with society. One example of the archetypal journey is in the novel As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner. In the novel the Bundren family undertakes a quest from their home in Yoknapatawpha County to Jefferson in pursuance of burying their mother/ wife, Addie. Along the way this family endures numerous hurdles that they must overcome. Their journey resembles that of an archetypal journey with a departure, journey and arrival. Along with the novel As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, the film Little Miss Sunshine shares the same archetypal pattern. The film Little Miss Sunshine is an effective contemporary interpretation of an archetypal journey because of its events, characters and symbols that are similar to those in the novel As I Lay Dying.
In archetype is a model situation, person, or idea that has been copied or repeated many times and is very recognizable. The most common archetype is the story on the underdog. The stores consist of a good person receives when he is faced with the odds of an unbeatable task or in immeasurable obstacle, Such is in the story of David and Goliath. This story has been copied many times infection and in stores based on real life events. I can count many movies and books based on real life sports teams who have triumphed in an unexpected victory or an outstanding season. Most basic stories were the winner always wins in the loser always lose are very boring in distasteful to the reader. Somewhere along the line the winner has to lose in the loser

Archetypes have been used in stories for years. The concept has showed up in literature such as folklore and mythology, and even in cinema such as disney and marvel. Take for instance Snow White and the Huntsman, which alludes to archetypal characters and situations all throughout the film. The hero presented is Snow White, and throughout the film she experiences an initiation. Firstly, is her separation where she has to escape where she’s from.
A character archetype is a universally recognized pattern of personality or role found in various media. These archetypes are deeply rooted in society and resonate with audiences across different cultures and time periods. Archetypes are a type of semiotic, which are symbols and signs that can communicate feelings and perceptions or are a “study of signs” (Maasik 8). Character Archetypes serve as a way to create compelling characters and narratives that individuals can relate to. Characters have specific traits, behaviors, and motivations that fit into certain archetypes that allow viewers to recognize and understand their importance within a story.
The traditions of storytelling have long been used as a means to impart wisdom and life lessons to others. One of the most effective ways in which this is done is through the use of archetypes. While it is possible to look at these images in a general way, one may also focus an analysis on a single tale. In this way it is possible to explore the particular images used and their significance in a given situation, (often a coming of age rite of
Archetypes are defined as “a typical character, an action or a situation that seems to represent such universal patterns of human nature.” (“Archetype”) The short story “On the Rainy River” by Tim O’Brien is about the internal struggle and the journey he faces after he is drafted to serve the army. The classical hero’s journey archetype is similar to Tim O’Brien’s journey in his short story, “On the Rainy River,” with the exception of the arc length and depth of transformation.
