There are 25 major specialties in engineering that are recognized by professional societies. In any one of those 25 specialties, the goal of the engineer is the same. The goal is to be able to come up with a cost effective design that aids people in the tasks they face each day. Whether it be the coffee machine in the morning or the roads and highways we travel, or even the cars we travel in, it was all an idea that started with an engineer. Someone engineered each idea to make it the best solution to a problem. Even though engineer 's goals are similar, there are many different things that engineers do within their selected field of engineering. This paper will focus on the architectural field of engineering.
Wide land without wisdom design never exploits all the beauty and advantages of its. Many people design their house with thoughts of nature, of love, of ancient inspiration… Many of them are successful in making their own property attractive and large. However, there are also many of them making the house unexpected. People must understand that the main element making the building strange, different, bright & large is design and they must make sure that the drawing is suitable with land area in some ways. Constructing a bright house by designing means using grey matter to create spaces with holes, with wall fences, with stairs… so that the corner of the house can be fulfill with sunbeams as much as possible.
The history of Architecture started long time ago. The nomadic were groups of people whom move from one place to another in order find shelter and food to survive. As they progress, their techniques to survive evolve. The need for a permanent shelter became vital for a better stability of the group. This is the time when the first structures that provided protection appeared. Post and lintel were the first forms of Architecture, that satisficed the basic needs. Architecture evolved to be more sophisticated and fulfill the people’s needs. Consequently, Architecture evolved throughout different periods such as: Ancient architecture, Romanesque, The medieval, Renaissance, Early modern, and the industrial age, Modernism and Contemporary
Various architectural designs that the Western society has adopted demonstrates how heavily they are influenced by the Ancient Greek culture and the Roman culture. During those eras, the buildings were intended to communicate its function to the viewer automatically. Known as architecture parlante (which literally meant "speaking architecture”), its purpose was to explain its identity to the viewer. The term used for
In particular, the researcher examines how the architectural program reflect the needs of the cultures that utilized it, the features that distinctly represent it, features borrowed from other cultures, and how these architectures fit into
The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines architecture as the art or science of designing and creating buildings. Almost all locations around the world have at least one or several buildings that are of historical significance or greatly admired. These buildings not only identify its citizens and government, but the state. Through architecture it’s safe to say that one can measure many things about the culture, lifestyle, creativity, and social structure. In this paper I will be comparing and contrasting two structures located Miami, Florida.
Architecture matters because they often symbolize something that goes beyond being just a mere object. They symbolize something that has a deeper meaning, something that is special to us. They often covey emotions
Architecture should be nurturing, responsive and alive, dynamically shifting spatial balances, organically expressive forms, subtly luminous colors and biologically healthy. To achieve such life-enhancing architecture, it has to address all the body senses simultaneously and fuse our image of self with experience of the world. By strengthening our sense of self and reality, architecture serves its all-important function of accommodation and
This book was written by Juhani Pallasmaa with regard to ‘Polemics’, on issues that were part of the architecture discourse of the time, i.e. 1995. It is also an extending of ideas expressed in an essay entitled “Architecture of the seven senses” published in 1994.
Architecture is often mistaken as purely an art form, when in actually it is where art and engineering or art and practicality meet. For example, painting is an art, when preformed well it yields a beautiful picture that evokes a deep human reaction and brings pleasure to its viewer, however this painting provides no function, it cannot shield us from the rain or protect us from the wind or snow, it is purely form. An insulated aluminum shed provides shelter and protection from Mother Nature; however, it is a purely functional building, it was drawn by an engineer, not conceived by an artist to have form. The culmination of form and function is Architecture, the Greeks and Romans fathered this idea and Palladio’s study of roman architecture taught him his valuable truth.
Discussing various approaches to perceiving meaning within architecture (understanding architecture as an expression of underlying social orders; treating architecture as a result of the Zeitgeist, and finally; interpreting architecture as an independent sign system comprised of its own grammar, syntax and ways of meaning), Whyte claims architecture can be understood as an analogy to language. Subsequently, Whyte claims that simply interpreting meaning with architecture is challenging due to the complexity of a building. To truly understand an architectural meaning, Whyte states a number of perspective shifts must occur, ensuring all design stages, from concept through to construction is accounted for due to the ever evolving nature of a project and therefore
It is all known that architectural culture play an important role in any nation culture and history. It reveals the achievements of the nation in various aspects such as artistic realizations, the development level of the nation and at the same time the civilization degree of the nation. This paper will discuss and compare the different culture between Chinese traditional architecture and Western architecture.
The book consists of twelve chapters that propose this idea that designers should explore the nature of our senses’ response to the spatial built forms that people invest their time in. It tries to cover a specific topic in each chapter that in order to deconstruct the book, it is necessary to cover each chapter individually.
“ Architecture organizes and structures space for us, and its interiors and the objects enclosing and inhabiting its rooms can facilitate or inhibit our activities by the way they use this language”(Lawson pg.6).
Architecture can be viewed with two different types of properties. Properties that can be seen like shapes, their composition, the spaces they create and, the colours and textures that make up their appearance. These properties are considered to be visual while other properties are considered to be abstract. These properties can only be described using words; the meanings behind the architecture and the stories that can be told about it. The context, its cultural background and its function also affects how we view architecture. The question is, what
