I have chosen to write about one of my favorite alternative rock band, Red Hot Chili Peppers from Los Angeles, California. My decision was based upon two things; one being I like the band, while the other was to learn if some of their music is sending the wrong message to our young people. I personally would not consider myself music sappy; never have I really been given a chance to listen to music as I grew up, to find what I like. As of today, I don’t know who sings what song nor really know what the lyric’s mean. With today’s environment young people are given a chance to be inspired by different kinds of media; thus giving them the opportunity to actually find out what the artist is meaning behind the songs. After interviewing four participation;
Yesterday, Pearl Jam were (rightfully) nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame next year, in their first year of eligibility.
Carter landed a job on pianist Ramsey Lewis's BET Jazz show, "Bet on Jazz.” In January
When I first browsed through the different topics on which we were to write essays on, I was ecstatic when I saw one about rock and roll. Once I started skimming through all the bands and artists I know and love, I knew there would be no problem writing this essay. I firmly believe that I was born in the wrong generation of music because I am a hardcore oldies junkie at heart. For this reason, the bands I have selected are as follows: The Beastie Boys, Fleetwood Mac, The Police, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Johnny Cash, and The Righteous Brothers.
My favorite type song is different from my least favorite type song by the beat, the way the words are organized, and the way that the people who sing it. In my favorite type of music, wich is usually rap, has big base drops and is very fast paced. In the slow paced music like poems it is obdviesly slow most of the time and there isn’t any base. I like to lay in my bed listening to rap music and it just soothes me for some reason I really don’t know why,but it just makes me feel better. Other slow paced music like poems being sung just makes me scream speed up,be louder, make some more noise,and vibrate these headphones.
There are only a few genres I choose not to listen to at all; otherwise, I can enjoy almost any form of music. I like country music because that is what my Dad always listened to. Although what was his country music was and what mine is today, is much different, my choice roots from my childhood exposure (Detrick, “Music History”). The two components I tend to enjoy most when listening to music are Tone and Rhythm (Detrick, “Music History”). I enjoy the way they make the stories being told, come together and make the song sound
The music you listen to comes in many forms of music. Like pop (aka popular music) hip-hop, rap, r&b, country. You might think they have nothing in common with each other but they do, they come in many ranges, many different sounds, and some of them have a rich history. Many people look at those who are successful and think it is so simple. An example, Slash from Guns N' Roses, he makes shredding on guitar look simple. The thing is though, no one looks at all the hard work that people put in to be successful. Drug addicts, they go through relapses but they still keep moving forward and kick the drugs. Another example would be body builders, it's not like one day they magically decide that they want to have intense muscles. It takes time to be successful. No one really knows how hard it is to be successful until they actually try.
Rivers Cuomo, Patrick Wilson, Matt Sharp, and Jason Cropper formed the alternative rock group known as Weezer in 1992 in Los Angeles, California. The band went through several names before lead singer Rivers Cuomo christened the band as Weezer after his childhood nickname due to his asthma.
In 1991 "five guys in Charlottesville, Va., started making joyful noise" (Waddell 1). This band would soon take over the world and change the lives of millions. This is the Dave Matthews Band. "The Internet was hardly a factor in building a fan base and the concert industry was rapidly consolidating" (Waddell 1).
Stone Temple Pilots were able to turn alternative rock into stadium rock; naturally, they became the most critically despised band of their era. Accused by many critics of being nothing more than ripoff artists who pilfered from Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains, the bandmates nevertheless became major stars in 1993. And the influence of those bands was apparent in their music, although Stone Temple Pilots did manage to change things around a bit. STP were more concerned with tight song structure and riffs than punk rage. Their closest antecedents were not the Sex Pistols or Hüsker Dü; instead the band resembled arena rock acts from the '70s -- they made popular hard rock that sounded good on the radio and in concert. No matter what
When the 1980s rolled around I was finishing university. I was still sad that my high school years were behind me and nostalgic about the music I enjoyed while growing up. During this time in Los Angeles, California started a new musical trend known as “glam rock”. It blew in with bands such as Motley Crue performing in the clubs around the city. Pretty much this kind of music was either you liked it or you didn’t care for it. However a band changed all that by showing a different side to his music that was a tender side.
Metallica is considered one of the first metal bands of the early eighties. They are a part of the big four, the other three include Megadeth, Anthrax, and Slayer. The metal genre is proven to have the biggest fan base over any other genre. In this article I will only be talking about their early years and going up to their first four albums. Most diehard Metallica fans will argue that their first four albums are true Metallica and after that they went mainstream to try and branch out to other audiences.
Music has a big impact on my life, it is one of my favorite things in the world. My music library is so diverse, so it is hard for me to pick my favorite genre, from hip hop to rock to country. I find it all tasteful. If I had to say may favorite though it would be alternative rock, mostly because my favorite band is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Their bass lines are amazing, and their music has so much heart and emotion in it, it’s something that everyone can jam along to. My least favorite would have to be screamo, an off shoot of metal. It is just too angry and you cannot understand anything the singer is saying, it isn’t something that is easy for me to appreciate. The Hobbit is my favorite book, the ore behind it keeps me interested and the way it is written is a completely different style than today’s writing. The writing style almost seems archaic but it has an elegance to it that is extremely difficult to achieve.
Nick Cave is a famous American performance artist. He was born in Fulton Missouri on February 4, 1959. He dedicates great part of his artist life to make fabric sculptures. He is best known for his ability to make wearable sound suits. The work of Nick Cave uses found objects and bright colored fabrics to create his famous sound suit sculptures. The sound suits bring out the voice of those who have been silenced by the hands of cruel individuals who feel so powerful to kill when are allowed to carry a gun. According to Healey,J. “ Art is the voice of the silent souls” (Healey, 2014). I believe Nick Cave is that instrument that gave Trayvon Martins a voice. Nick Cave draws his inspiration from existing racial tension and street gun violence that impacts the black community. We can learn more about his work and
