Envision yourself waking up at 5 a.m, getting to school at 6:30 a.m, eat breakfast at school and go to class for an hour and a half. You repeat this every time until you graduate. Moreover, you stay in after-school programs for the rest of the week. You probably can’t even imagine yourself doing this on a daily basis. Nevertheless, in order to increase student success at Anaheim Schools, more time during school will help improve students’ learning. This backs up my argument because these children are pushed to be at school more time so they can learn and be successful. We complain about staying at school longer while these children are kind of forced to stay in school. Many of these kids don’t go home until seven in, which can result in having problems with their parents. At Anaheim Schools, yes there are students who stay until seven or eleven due to programs that they are in, but they do this every day. It is a routine for them to do.

What many people can observe from Anaheim high school is that they don't even really do the SSR which is mandatory but isn’t working because they don’t read but rather doze off. One of our classes, we usually use this for extra time to work on the actual class. Raising the quantity of time in class would highly improve a great mass of student success at Anaheim High School. Having a limited amount of time in classrooms makes it extra difficult for teachers to teach the material therefore students are not capable of learning it. Teachers have to plan a way on how to teach the curriculum in 45 minutes and make sure all students understood it. Anaheim High School, a beautiful campus filled with intelligent students all around. You may tell yourself that but do we really have some of the best grades? Anaheim has too many days off for vacation and not enough school time for students to learn. In order to increase student success at Anaheim, we should have longer class periods so that students understand the material without having to be rushed and start class earlier or extend school release time until 3:30 or 4:00 pm. The overall theme of the sources we studied was about growth mindset.The most important thing about growth mindset is that intelligence can be developed. Also, the brain can grow by hard working and practicing. In “You Can Grow your Intelligence,” the author maintains that contrary to the belief that a person is born either smart, average, or dumb, instead the brain is more like a muscle, it changes and get stronger when you use it. Lastly, Carol Dweck, in a Ted Talk titled “ The Power Of Believing That You Can improve,” narrates how she researches about the growth mindset and the fixed mindset, and the benefit of having a growth mindset. Also, in her video she gave many good advice of how you can change a person that have fixed mindset to a growth mindset.
The parents in Seattle elementary school’s don’t agree with the high school student going to school later than elementary school’s. Like a said later earlier a lot of people would agree with this. For this to work the elementary schools should make all the younger students schools go to later as well as the high school. I think that even with those changes there will still be some parents complaining because of transportation issues. As educators, it is vital for us to be aware of the different types of mindsets that exist within our students. Being able to identify a fix mindset will help us understand why some students give up or stop trying when faced with failure or the learning material becomes too tough for them. In choosing a growth mindset, an educator acknowledges that all students can learn and improve through determination and hard work. Many fix minded educators see children that are struggling or very far behind the others as a lost cause. If schools were to make adjustments such as changing their hours onto a later time and having a class that would just be for sleeping, there would be a tremendous amount of grade changes in a lot of students lives. In the article it reads that on April 28th 1997 “schools in Edina, Minnesota, shifted their start time from 7:25 am to 8:30 am” and students after this change started saying that there grades were rising and they were awake during school hours. I’m going to tell you how student learn these mindsets. In the 90s parents thought the most important thing that you child should have was self-esteem. But were they messed up is that you cant just hand your kids self-esteem. They took a poll among parents and found that 85% of parents thought that it was necessary to “praise” their children’s abilities to boost confidence. Now were going to talk about growth mindset. These students believe that intelligence is something that can be gained through education and effort. I wish in high school that I would of taken it more serious because now I could have had a growth mindset witch would of helped me out a lot in college. Those students have growth mindsets. They believe that you can gain intelligence through learning. Those with a growth mindset had a very straightforward idea of effort. The idea that the harder you work the greater the outcome is and I think that’s true. When these students had a set back in school they simply just study more or differently next time. That was my biggest set back in high school. Many bright students find grade school fairly easy and get right through it. But later on in life like in college they struggle. They don’t want to put the time into something and feel dumb when they get a bad grade on it. That’s bad because you should never feel dumb about something that you tried your hardest to complete. Everyone in America has to go to school at some point in their life. Most students in California attend school for 6 hours a day. In Adelanto,California students learn math,science language arts history, PE, and an elective during that time. Some students are struggling with this kind of schedule.
