Within the article, “Are Too Many People Going To College?”, by Charles Murray, he goes over the reasons why we don’t necessarily need to go to college to be successful. By this, he is talking about how most liberal arts should be taught properly within grades K-8. What I mostly agree on with him is the topic of how four years of college is ridiculous. From personal experience and the practicality of learning important information, I strongly believe that students should have to spend four years at college. Why learn something irrelevant and have the possibility to fail if you learn the material for your future career sooner and successfully.

I mean the mentally and physically. Are students taking in the knowledge or finding themselves, spending time, experimenting with drugs and alcohol. According to the National Institute of Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, statistics show that almost 60 percent of college students ages 18–22 drank alcohol in the past month, and almost 2 out of 3 of them engaged in binge drinking during that same timeframe (NIAA). The question now arises, how has that affected their learning within those four years of college? Were they really paying attention in all four years of college or to busy socializing to take in all the knowledge that four years could actually offer them. You can learn a lot more than needed in four years that goes way beyond the curriculum. The only thing is that students don’t use their time wisely because they know they can put assignments off, which, in fact, from personal experience, really takes a toll on their GPA. I believe, for the practicality of learning as much as possible, is to shorten the length of achieving an undergraduate degree from four years to two to three years. This will restrict the mass amount of time assignments are due, forcing students to learn as much as they can before graduation. I feel that they will realize they can’t afford to skip a class or miss an assignment because it will take a huge chunk out of the final grade. Once this is
