There are 40 to 42 million prostitutes in the world; 3 quarters of this group range between the ages 13 to 25. With about a 80% being women, and 20% being male. About 1 million of those live in the United States (businessinsider.com). Most of the women are forced into this job, because it is so unregulated. Some women chose to do this voluntarily but need business help from “pimps” (a man who controls prostitutes and arranges clients for them, taking part of their earnings in return). Because prostitution is illegal, people can’t report when someone decides to not pay

Under Federal law, the importation of people for the purposes of prostitution is illegal and considered a form of human trafficking prohibited by federal code and the 13th Amendment of US Constitution. When someone prostitutes his or herself, it is a misdemeanor charge for both the provider and client; Most acts that promote prostitution, however, such as pimping and pandering, are treated as felonies. Where underage prostitutes are involved, the penalties are considerably stiffer, and it is no defense for the pimp or panderer that he or she believed that the minor was of age.
This practice isn 't illegal everywhere, prostitution is completely legal in Austria. Prostitutes are required to register, undergo periodic health examinations, be 19 years old or older, and pay taxes; in Brazil prostitution in itself is legal, but pimping is considered a crime, it is the same situations in many other countries including Colombia (scoopwhoop.com/). This allows for countries so maintain sex businesses but not restricting them as a whole. A large amount of countries are legalizing prostitution but limiting it to be able to maintain, but not completely restrict sex businesses.

In 2009, the Human Trafficking Prosecution Unit of the United States Department of Justice reported charging 114 people with human trafficking offenses. Out of the 114 people, there were only 43 human trafficking prosecutions. Of those 43, only 22 were for sex trafficking. In 2008, more than 50 people were charged when Phoenix, Arizona police took down a prostitution organization (Arizona Republic). Obviously, the rate of prostitution and the rate of prostitution do not correlate with each other. There are more prostitutes operating in the United States versus the number of people being brought to the United States by way of human trafficking, strictly for the purposes of working in the sex industry.
Prostitution is defined as “business of exchanging sexual services for martial compensation or financial befits” (Weitzer, R. J, p8). The practice usually happens legally in modern cites like Vegas, Berlin and

It used to be legal in Rhode Island due to a loophole, but since 2009, it has been illegal 1. Women are not the only ones who are prostitutes, about 20 to 30% of prostitutes are male 2, which means both genders are affected by laws against prostitution. Men and women should be allowed to choose how they want to use their bodies how they wish, and that includes prostitution.
Prostitution is said to be “the world’s oldest profession” (Ramchandran par. 1). The Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary defines prostitution as “the act or practice of engaging in promiscuous sexual relations especially for money” (“Prostitution” par. 1). Many people argue that prostitution should be legalized, but it hurts people more than it helps. Legalization of prostitution condones sexual behavior for profit. Not to mention, the increased risk of illness or infection via sexually-transmitted diseases (STDs), or death. It also does not “enhance women’s choices” (Raymond par. 45). This means that whether

According to the legal dictionary prostitution is “commission by a person of any natural or unnatural sexual act, deviate sexual intercourse, or sexual contact for monetary consideration or other thing of value.” Some argue that in this case no one is being victimized and hurt and wonder why is it still illegal. Although some think there is no victim, the act of prostitution goes against the law and therefore must still be considered a crime (according to the definition.) Although this is voluntary, all acts of prostitution show male dominance of women and often comes along with rape, verbal abuse, domestic violence, sexual harassment and battering. Studies show that “73 percent reported having experienced physical assault in prostitution.” In addition, that” 92 percent stated that they wanted to escape prostitution immediately” and that “83 percent of prostitutes are victims of assault with a weapon.” Therefore, prostitution causes harm to the women who partake, although it is voluntary making it a crime with a definite

Imagine this scenario: you are walking on the street with your daughter and you see a group of girls. A few minutes later, a man arrives and offers money for one of the girls. She, then, accepts the money and gets into the car with him. How would you explain that scene to your daughter? In the U.S., some states such as Nevada have already legalized prostitution. Should Florida be the next? According to the Oxford dictionary, prostitution is the act of granting sexual favors in exchange for payment, yet it has existed throughout history in all parts of the world. It is a fact that most parents would not be proud to see their daughters becoming prostitutes and selling their bodies. Women are not merchandise. The State should take an action; however, legalizing prostitution is not the answer to reduce forced prostitution, stop trafficking of women and children, decrease the STDs, or minimize other types of crime.
Prostitution is defined as the act of “providing or receiving sexual acts, between a prostitute and a client, in exchange for money or some other form of remuneration” (Hock 557). The first reported data about prostitution was reported around 3000 B.C.E in one of the first known civilizations, Mesopotamia (Caraboi and Fierbinteanu 362). One of these types of prostitutes are brothel workers; brothel workers work in “a house of prostitution,” a brothel, which are normally in areas where prostitution is not criminalized or is legalized (Hock 560). Like prostitution, human trafficking has been around for thousands of years and is still present today.
When many people hear the term prostitution they automatically have a negative thought in their heads. They see the violence, the drugs, and the manipulative things that are said and done to these people, all due to their pimps. What people fail to realize is there is a fine line between human trafficking and prostitution, many people get these two confused. Prostitution has frequently been touted as the world's oldest profession, for the simple fact that it has been prevalent in society for quite some time. In order to properly discuss the many social ramifications of this particular crime and possible ways for dealing with them, it is first necessary to define prostitution and to explore the reason why it is a crime. Prostitution is the exchange of money or monetary assets for sexual favors and pleasure. It is the paying for sex in all of its myriad facets, from conventional coitus to a number of lewd and arcane acts from which people derive pleasure. Prostitution is part of the sex industry, which includes legal business such as strip clubs (Weitzer 7). There are a couple of different reasons as to why exchanging money for sex is deemed illegal. One principle reason is that if it were legalized, it would be exceedingly difficult for the government to tax and to capitalize off it, which is one of the reasons in which marijuana is widely considered illegal. More importantly, however, prostitution is illegal because it promotes the objectification of women and their bodies, and inherently reduces the degree of parity between men and women in which the latter are viewed as things simply for the fulfillment of men's sexual desires. Additionally, there are a variety of noxious activities that accompany prostitution such as trafficking in which the will of another is subjected to someone else's.
