In the last three years gun control has been a more important issue do to bringing them to school. In 2011, 20% of high school students were bullied at school, and 33% reported being involved in a physical fight in the year before. In one month, nearly 6% of high schoolers stayed home because they felt unsafe at or own their way to school. More than 7% of 9th through 12th graders reported being threatened or injured with a weapon on school property at least ones in the last year. An additional 6% admitted to bringing a weapon on school property for protection. More than 50% of children who have been bullied online do not report the behavior to their parents, with no idea regarding this behavior. In 2011, one million children were harassed,
According to Dan Gross’s presentation, his dream for a better future is to cut down the number of gun deaths by a half in the USA by 2025. In 1997, Gross’s little brother was shot in the head at the observation deck at the empire state building and has to suffer brain damage for life. This tragedy is not only for his family but also to the many families that keep losing their loved ones each day. 90 Americans are killed everyday by guns and some of these killings go unnoticed. Gross says that there are over 300 million guns out in homes of Americans to keep their families safe. But everyday, 9 kids are shot unintentionally in homes and 2/3 of school shootings that occur are from guns taken from home. This is because a lot of technology that
If a tighter restriction is placed on gun control, thus making it harder for individuals to obtain their own personal firearm, our elementary and secondary schools would be more sheltered and secure. On December 14, 2012, Adam Lanza a “socially awkward” twenty year old went rogue. Lanza went on a shooting rampage at Sandy Hook Elementary school in Connecticut which resulted in the death of twenty kindergarten children, four educators, the principle and the school’s psychologist. The mass murder ended when Lanza turned the gun on himself; just before the horrific massacre Lanza shot his mother to death in their home a couple minutes away from the elementary school. Regulating gun control would make schools much safer than the society as a whole.

If you recently picked up a newspaper or turned on to see the news you may have question what is happening in our schools and begin to think whether our schools are still safe places for children. Recent school shootings have set feared in many parents about their children's safety in our schools. Since last year number of school shootings by students have occurred regularly. On Tuesday February 29, 2000 in Mount Morris Township, Michigan a six-year old boy shot his classmate to death in their first grade classroom. Police reports show that the two youngsters had an argument the previous day. A single shot was fired inside the classroom at Buell Elementary School around 10 a.m. The young boy said he brought the gun to school to frighten
The quality of safety for students in school is immensely important. Throughout history several school shootings have occurred which led to numerous injuries, and sadly deaths of not only students, but school officials as well. Each of the shootings had one thing in common; the lack of protective precautions. Allowing teachers and school officials to carry concealed, loaded, guns into schools would increase the safety of both students and faculty, and ensure that every student felt secure in school.
It is only April 16th in the year. Only about 16 weeks have passed, and there has already been more than a dozen school shootings. Innumerable of innocent children, fearing for their life and sadly, many of those kids were killed. Now think about it, it could be anyone. Any person could easily purchase a deadly gun, because the current gun control laws are inefficient. A change needs to happen now. Not only for the safety of students at schools, but for the safety of everyone in the United States. The current gun laws are extremely flawed, resulting in more gun violence and deaths, and these laws need to be reformed.
Roughly 16,459 murders were committed in the United States during 2016. Of these, about 11,961 or 73% were committed with firearms because people have been killed with gun shot, example the las vegas shooting. A Pew Foundation report found that 79% of male gun owners and 80% of female gun owners said owning a gun made them feel safer, and 64% of people living in a home in which someone else owns a gun felt safer. The Centers for Disease Control listed firearms as the #12 cause of all deaths between 1999 and 2013, representing 1.3% of total deaths. They were also the #1 method of death by homicide (66.6% of all homicides) and by suicide (52.2% of all suicides).
Sandy Hook Elementary. Aurora, Colorado. San Bernardino, California. Las Vegas, Nevada. Orlando, Florida. (Words with Negative Connotation) These are just some of the biggest mass shootings that have swept America in the past few years. Hundreds of lives are lost each year to gun related violence in the United States alone. Gun control has been a topic in our country since our founding fathers adopted the second amendment to the US constitution. Although recently controversy has sparked to an all-new extent in America due to the recent spike in mass shootings and gun related homicides. So many families and loves ones are affected each year in the United States because of gun related violence and other mass killing events, because of these events gun control laws need to be revamped and strengthened in American in order to protect the citizens.
Many current school shootings have brought to the attention of many people the dangers of guns. The debate across America still continues. Should gun laws be stricter or not? Yet many compromises can be made to help the safety of schools. Yet I believe that a new compromise regarding teachers has taken it too far. Recent shootings have caused a mass amount of commotion, therefore, teachers should not be armed.
Imagine yourself sitting in front of the tv watching the news and all of a sudden the breaking news cast interrupts the regular news. You hear that there has been a school shooting at the school your kids attend, and you automatically start frantically calling your kids to see if they’re ok. What if we could avoid this feeling of no hope and eliminate the fears some students have of going to school? Would you take action? Gun control has been a very controversial topic over the past few years due to the increase of police violence and school shootings. This increase of violence should be a clear indicator that gun control is needed in our country. If gun control was implicated in states all across the U.S., school shootings will be prevented, gun control will have finally been tested, and the people of America can finally have the safety they desire.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Panic is everywhere. Teachers frantically hide their students in cupboards, closets, and anything that will keep them out of sight. For outside the classroom there is a deranged man with a gun, looking to kill. This was the scene at Sandy Hook Elementary. If educators were armed, could this event have been prevented? Teachers should be able to carry a gun in the classroom in order to protect their students and staff.
The issue of gun control is a fiercely debated topic in the world today, but it’s particularly prevalent in the United States. Due to the upsurge of mass shootings and gun violence, many people are questioning whether or not restrictions on gun purchases should be stricter. Despite concerns many people have, the government does have a system in place to help regulate just who can get their hands on a gun. Like every system, it could be improved. Regardless of your stance on the issue, it’s hard to argue against developing a better system for screening applicants.
One hundred seventy, that is a big number, especially when talking about shootings on school grounds that happened since the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting(Lott). Now reduce that number to 12, that is the number of potential mass shootings that could've happened that were stopped by guns(Roosevelt). Guns don't shoot people. People shoot people. Teachers, staff, and security must be allowed to carry guns on school grounds in order to prevent mass school shootings. Overall individuals within a public school should have the opportunity to be armed in order to protect themselves and others.
Imagine sitting in Mr. Holiday’s English classroom or eating at a favorite restaurant, and you realize people are carrying a gun holstered that is loaded. Would that make you feel comfortable and safe? The Second Amendment of the United States Constitution states" A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed" (“Second Amendment”). In other words, citizens of the United States have the right to carry guns for protection. The United States of America is an advanced developed country and we do not have adequate gun safety laws in place even after countless shooting massacres that have occurred over the years. The government allows individuals to
The Second Amendment states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed” (Stolzenberg and D'alessio). These words were written over two hundred years ago, however the exact meaning of them are still not entirely clear. The Amendment’s true meaning has been rather obscure for centuries, but it wasn’t until recent years that the issue has become the center of legal and academic debates (Stolzenberg and D'alessio). Though there has been regulations on guns for quite some time, firearm regulation did not become a “prominent political issue” until the 1980’s (Stolzenberg and D'alessio). “Once gun control entered the nation's political conscience, there was a surge in academic study of the Second Amendment's language and the historical sources surrounding its adoption” (Stolzenberg and D'alessio). Various books and articles were written and published reviewing these issues and “even noted constitutional theorists such as Laurence Tribe” began to change their ideas and understanding of the amendment (Stolzenberg and D'alessio).
