The Norton Field Guide to Writing covers topics about writing and composing. Several of which I was already familiar with. In chapter 2, Bullock and Weinberg express how “Many readers find it helps to annotate as they read…” (16). I have become very familiar with annotating over the years. I often use this writing method to help me understand and summarize text I come across.

The Great Debate is about the weather or not to keep The Constitution. Which the Anti-Federalists didn’t want around anymore. But The Federalists had believed that somebody had to have some type of power to keep all states in control at once. But it had to be ratified by at least 9/13 states to become a legal. But each side had their own opinions on how the states should be handled.

Since America left Britian, Britian wasn't very happy, but they didn't think the Americans would be able to form rules and a government. America formed and established the Constitution. Since America was a thriving country Britian was a little bit mad. Overtime British started doing things to prevent America from becoming all powerful. A reason why British started impressment, which was part of creating the War of 1812, had to do with the Constitution. Without the War of 1812 the National Anthem might have never been made, because of the Battle of Fort McHenry, which was in the War of 1812. We already know that there has been a precipitous decline in the study of liberal arts because many people do not value it anymore. English and history are now being pushed aside for math or science. Fareed Zakaria, an American journalist and author, in his article, “What's the Use of a Liberal Education?” writes, “Even President Obama recently urged students to keep in mind that a technical training could be more valuable than a degree in art history. Majors like English, once very popular and highly respected, are in steep decline.” This mindset is causing many people to turn away from liberal arts-based subjects, so they can pursue something that would “be more valuable”.

It is clear Ryerson University needs a better way to make education accessible to all their students. With the constant delays of the transit systems we have, and the rising costs to commute, students are skipping lectures. The best solution to this problem is starting VR enabled lectures. This will keep expenses low for students and save time that students struggle to find. VR enabled lectures are far superior to the alternative, which is living on campus. By living on campus expenses increase and you’re not in the comfort of your home. Also it is not guaranteed you will get approved to live on residence because of the limited beds available. Anyone would be hard-pressed to find a politician in recent years who has been elected to a national office without promising to improve education and focus their efforts on the betterment of their constituents’ children. Many of these politicians have succeeded at passing legislation to do so, but the latest of these, the Common Core standards initiative, is facing a very important query right now: does it work in America? Across the nation and world assisted suicide is an issue that has been gaining attention for several years. Hi Amber, I wholeheartedly agree with your statement in this week’s post that this is a very controversial topic and is interesting at the same time. In fact, I only live about forty-five minutes from this area and want to know more about the entire story. I believe that in all situations we should try to find the best solution for both sides rather than trying to find out what will help with the side we feel is best. However, I do understand that each side had needs, but are we saying one is more important than the other. As I think about this event and our Unit 2 discussion about our footprints, it makes me wonder what we as individuals would have been willing to give up for the safety of the snail darters environment.

Tuition costs in the United States have increased significantly causing many families to opt out from attending prestigious four-year universities. According to Flynn, “Today’s college graduate leaves campus with around $35,000 in student loan debt, and when you include interest payments, they’ll end up paying $42,385 over the life of the loan” (Flynn). In an effort to reduce the debts among individuals, students should consider attending a Community College as their educational experience prior to enrolling at a four-year university or as their career pathway.

Great question Amanda about the what results would we see nationwide if all states chose to incorporate the Common Core Standards? To look at the big picture of the Common Core State Standards Initiavtive, the purpose is to create a standard set for all students in the United States. When talking about the Common Core State Standards and how they affect students and educators we must remember where this argument started from. In the 21st century of learning Barth (2004) reminds us that "we are not just preparting workers, we are preparing citizens. It is our interest ,then, as much our responisbility to make sure that all our young people are prepared for the furture."

It is often assumed that failure is a deterrent to achievement. Rather, failure should be seen as a motivator for a person to keep trying until the objective or aim of a particular mission is fulfilled.

I can remember seeing that I had to take an English class my first semester of college. I was already overwhelmed with starting college, and having to write college essays made me get even more nervous. I sat down with my mom and decided to look at the English classes available, and I finally decided that I had to take an evening class to make it work in my schedule. The first day of English came and now looking back it was not as bad as I thought. It made me a better writer and be where I am today. It may have taken me some time to get where I am today, but at least I am on the right track. English Composition helped me realize that I am my own author and have strengths that I did not realize I had.
