I believe the proposal of free community college is beneficial. The idea is to set guaranteed high enrollment of students and rate of graduates, making sure students who are seeking to earn an associate degree or certificate will be well equipped for access into high-quality jobs, and preparing students to further their education beyond a two-year institution by attending a four-year college. According to Ronald Roach’s “Diverse Analysis: Why President Obama’s New Community College Plan Matters”, he predicts that “by enhancing the capacity of community colleges it will provide critical skills to the future economy” (4). President Obama’s proposal could possibly affect some private colleges if it is implemented. Some private colleges feel as if Obama’s plan singles out only the benefits for public colleges since “private colleges are expensive and normally serve affluent students” (Carlson; Kelderman 3). Most private colleges balance out with community colleges meaning the same amount of education is given at both private and community colleges. Private colleges feel if Obama is deciding to enforce this proposal, it should be written out to accommodate all colleges. Obama’s plan could ultimately affect for-profit colleges as well: Silber said, “A program that makes public community colleges free could further cut into enrollment” (2). He adds, “We believe it would have a negative impact on the for-profit sector, particularly on schools with a high percentage of associate and certificate degrees” (qtd in Carlson and Kelderman 2). The proposal could consequently end up giving more to community colleges leaving the for-profit colleges lacking. Goldin stated, “that colleges will lack with federal money and there would possibly be a shift in enrollments” causing the college to lose out on funds (qtd. in Carlson and Kelderman 2). I am convinced that the proposal of free community college will make college more affordable for the less fortunate and will persuade more students to consider attending. Also, convincing students to go beyond community college. Most people are so self-centered that they don’t realize that the proposal is highly beneficial and everyone will benefit whether they think that or not. The goal is to ensure that all students are well educated and prepared to work extremely hard in their occupation. Proposing free community college is the best proposal President Obama could have made. There’s no way society should be criticizing his plan, when he’s clearly trying to guarantee every person the opportunity to become successful in
