As deciding to what topic I would choose to write a research paper on, the choice was quite simple. The major topic of many discussions today are about guns, gun control and how deadly they can be. The question at hand in my book is simple, are guns bad or are people bad? I believe that legal citizens, who can pass a background check with no prior felonies, should be entitled to the right to purchase and obtain a firearm. Gun control is a continued discussion amongst both politicians and the American citizens. The idea of gun control has affected how people will vote for politicians. Sixty-one percent of United States registered voters say that gun control is one of many factors that influence their vote for a candidate. Besides the sixty-one percent of United States registered voters that say that gun control influences their vote for a candidate, twenty-four percent of registered voters will only vote for a candidate that shares their views on gun control.

The Second Amendment of the US Constitution reads, "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Owning a gun has been an old American tradition. So old it is older than the country itself and is being protected by the Second Amendment; more gun control laws would break apart of our rights, which is the right to bear arms. With all these mass shootings happening recently in our country it has brought up a huge discussion on if guns should be legal or not. My view on guns is if you have a clean history and no mental illness issues I have nothing wrong with someone owning a gun. Therefore I am for guns for self defense and hunting. I think having a gun is a huge responsibility and you shouldn’t be able to have any history of being a criminal or have a history of having a mental illness even to the slightest degree. These mass shooters I 100% think that they had a mental illness and sent them over the edge because I don’t know how anyone in the right mind could do a crime as big as killing hundreds of innocent people for no reason.

Over the past century gun problem has been a considerable debate in the United States. Guns are too easily accessible, they should either be restricted or strictly regulated. Guns also allow people to commit suicide. Another problem why gun contol should be imposed is to protect women from domestic abuse. Yes, the II Amendment says ''A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to bear arms, shall not be infringed''. The intention of this amendment was to protect the right of militias to bear arms, not the right of individuals. Guns supporters love to cite and twist the 2 Amendment for their own convenience and justify the right to carry a weapon. Along the way, conservatives has shifted the meaning of the 2 Amendment to justify any inidividuals own a weapon easily.

There should be a strict gun control law in the United States to regulate gun holders and eliminate the misuse of gun and gun violence. It is necessary for the American people to be more careful with all the firearms due to the result of many gun death whether it’s an accident or on purpose.

Lately, there have been frequent discussions plaguing the news which primarily emphasizes firearms and gun control. These debates have led to many American citizens questioning the laws revolving around gun control and the amendment to the constitution permitting the right to bear arms. In numerous cities across the United States, the necessity to own a firearm is incredibly important. For example, let’s imagine someone walking the streets of Chicago on a daily basis and is constantly looking over his or her shoulder over the prospect of someone deliberately assaulting them. What if that same individual was murdered at gun point in broad daylight because he/she looked like a vulnerable target? Unfortunately, the senseless murder of this innocent individual was then reported to a grieving mother where she had to bury her child at a very young age.

Would society be better off with or without gun control? Plenty of people believe that owning a firearm can become dangerous or a way of security. Michael Warfel wrote an article, “Why Gun Control?”, explaining the reasons for more firearm limitation. Warfel does not believe in the complete ban of all guns, but he feels that gangs and criminals obtain powerful guns too easily. If legislators who create laws, made more regulations on guns, then people use guns less senselessly. Warfel wrote a argument that goes into what society can do to ensure that the use of guns have well intentions. The author’s structure, resources, and lack of acknowledging the opposing side makes his argument poor.

On a list of things that are capable of ruining lives, guns and social media would be on the top of many Americans’ list. However, numerous well-meaning adults jump straight to the worst-case scenario, including these two authors. M.D. Anderson’s article “Arming Teachers: A Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Idea” and Amy Webb’s article “We Post Nothing about Our Daughter Online” both have many assumptions, both which lead to the worst case scenario. Some are sensible speculations, such as not wanting to post about a child online. Others are overblown, such as assuming all schools will allow teachers to have guns. Without some of these pre-given premises of the authors, these articles do not work as well as the writers might have intended or wanted, and when picked apart, seem quite extreme.

In today’s society, people deal with many issues that are very controversial, affecting social politics on a main level. From homosexual rights to the legalization of marijuana, many people are faced daily with argumentative conflicts controlling one’s thoughts and decisions. The most prominent issue we face today deals with gun control at its entirety. The right to bear arms, as stated in the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights, has caused a large impact on the control of gun and ongoing violence in modern day America. For some of these Americans, they believe the issue is diminishing basic rights and uses the “protection” mechanism in defense. While others believe that having certain restrictions on gun usage could make it safer for society and decrease gun-related violence, some feel that excess gun control can hinder families and lives that thrive on support from shooting tournaments, hunting, etc.

On one side are those who firmly believe that the widespread availability of guns makes America more dangerous, and that stricter scrutiny should be applied both to who can own guns and what guns people can own. On the other side are those who believe that not only would increased firearms regulation be a violation of constitutional rights, but that it would have little to no effect on violence in America. Beneath this fiery, sometimes irrational debate are two core concepts of US political theory: constitutional interpretation and federalism.

The issue of gun control has always been debatable in the United States. In the United States for every 100 people there is 88.8 guns. This is the highest number of guns in the world. There have been many mass shootings even at an elementary school. One of the deadliest massacre happened at the Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newton, Connecticut. Twenty-six children and six adults are killed on December 14, 2012. Due to all the gun violence President Obama felt a need to update and expand background checks for gun control. He issued the new executive actions on January 5, 2016. Many individuals feel gun control is a necessity, whereas others feel it is problematic. One may argue the gun debate revolves around the interpretation of the Second Amendment.
