As the fearless, energetic imaginary hero, Sharkboy once mused, “take your time but beware, there is darkness in the air. Dream dream dream dream dream dream.” The 2005 fantasy film, The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl has since been one of my favorite movies, dating back to my younger days as an exuberant little girl with a whimsical imagination. The movie is about a boy named Max, who creates an imaginary dream world, Planet Drool, where all his dreams come to life. He, along with the two characters he created, Sharkboy and Lavagirl, go through an action-packed journey to save the planet from darkness. Throughout the many years I have watched this film I have always wondered one question: Can we have precognitive dreams?
My inner nerd is fascinated by dreams, especially precognitive ones. Dreams can be realistic, clear, and

I have done extensive research on dreams, and they are actually pretty captivating. Apparently scientists still don’t know how and why we dream after many decades of studies; however, they do know that everyone dreams. There are numerous proposed theories about what dreams mean and why we do it but researchers cannot agree on their origin. Despite what skeptics may say, I believe that in some instances, I can predict the future in my dreams. Precognitive dreams are dreams that appear to predict the future through the sixth sense. My first precognitive dream happened a couple of years ago, I had a dream about what my first summer camp looked like in which a woman was sitting at a desk. When I arrived at my summer camp it only took me ten seconds to realize that I had already dreamt of the place with the exact same woman. I was astonished and told my closest friend, Hannah, she believed me and told me she goes through the same thing. Being the movie and TV buff that I am, when the events in my dream happen in real life, I can’t help but feel like Raven Baxter, the teen psychic from the hit Disney
I remember a lot of my dreams after they occur, and for the most part, my dreams are either about normal things that happen to me or things that I wish would happen. From the results of all the people I interviewed the most common theory that was believed was the neurocognitive theory. When I asked why people chose this theory, it was generally because of what their dreams have been about. Besides the case of nightmares, almost everyone said that they dreamed about things that they have wished about or hoped would happen to them someday. Quite a few people also chose the biological theory because they believed it sounded the most scientific and thought that’s what truly happens inside the brain when dreaming occurs. Strangely, no one chose the psychodynamic theory; of the people who had an opinion on it, they said that they didn’t agree with this theory because most of their dreams are not just ordinary emotions and
In Macbeth, by William Shakespeare, Lady Macbeth arrays a daunting, chilling, and manipulating woman. Lady Macbeth's’ role is being Macbeth’s wife. Although they show a strong love for eachother, Lady Macbeth still has a pugnacious side to her. This character convinces a brave, strong warrior (Macbeth) to murder the righteous King Duncan (Scottish King). She is very power hungry, comparable to characters in other Shakespearean plays (like Caesar). If she did not manipulate, Macbeth may not have murdered. He may have stayed a humble, guilt free, and bold leader. Before the murder of the king, Lady Macbeth convinces Macbeth to, “look like an innocent flower, / But be the serpent under’t” (1.5.64-65). Meaning, be evil in your heart, but look
To kill, or not to kill? That was the question everyone was asking on the 6th of November, 2000, when Ken Crew was attacked and killed by a rogue shark off of Cottesloe Beach. Said shark also turned to attack Crew’s friend Dirk Avery who was able to escape with just a nip on the ankle and was soon followed by WA Fisheries Officials in a boat, one of whom was carrying a rifle and waiting for special permission from the Australian Government to shoot the shark. Eventually the Officials received an order to let the shark live but at that point the 5m long great white had disappeared into the ocean. The objective of this short essay is to examine the information the unit has given, develop an opinion on rogue sharks and then present my opinion as to whether rogue killer sharks should be killed or conserved.
Mao Zedong thought that “Of all things people are the most precious.” so birth control and other contraceptives were discouraged. Mao wanted to catch up economically so people across the country abandoned farms and began to help create an industrial China. Without many farms people in China faced a famine due to food shortages. This caused Mao to change his view on population and come up with the slogan “Long, Late, and Few.” The idea of the slogan was for couples to marry late, wait a long time before having children, and to only have a few children. Even though this cut fertility rates in half officials still thought the population was growing at an alarming rate. Their solution was to announce the one-child policy, which was introduced in
In the film Inception, there are several insistences where the dreamer is in a preconciousness state. Preconciousness is the information about someone or their surroundings that they are not thinking about, but could be recalled. Cobb says, “Well dreams, they feel real while we're in them, right? It's only when we wake up that we realize that something was actually strange. Let me ask you a question, you...you never really remember the beginning of a dream, do you?
Dreams come in all shapes and forms. Every dream experience falls into one of the following categories: Prophetic Dreams, Release Dreams, Wish Dreams, Informative and Problem solving dreams, and Astral Visits. So many people take dreams for granted or think they do not mean anything, but they do. Dreams are incredible when you learn what they are, mean and why we dream at all.
Good Morning/Afternoon, Ms Hall and my fellow classmates. My name is Dakota Summers-Hime and today, I would like to talk to you about why medical marijuana should be legalised in Australia. Before I go any further, I want to take the time to tell you what Medical Marijuana actually is. Medical Marijuana refers to marijuana being used to treat or relieve a symptom or condition. It is a medicine which can be used to treat some of the world’s worst conditions, including cancer, epilepsy, AIDS, Glaucoma and Multiple Sclerosis.
III. (Credibility Statement)I have done a lot of research on the topic of Dream Interpretation and find that it varies from person to person. Some believe that a dream
Dreams have a lengthy record of being a subject for debate and a source of motivation. In ancient Egypt, pharaohs had several interpreters to decipher their dreams as they believed they were messages from the gods (Lincoln, 1935, p.68). The ancient Hebrews believed that their dreams were tied to divine revelations as well. Native American tribes believed that dreams were a connection to their ancestors and used obtaining a vision from a dream as a rite of passage (Tedlock, 1981, p.324). In the present day, every night all across the world, people still experience sequences of imagery encompassed by sensations and emotions while asleep. The average person tends to dream up to seven times a night
Dreams have been around as long as the first civilization came to be and have been a normal part of human existence. One third of your life is spent sleeping, and of that third, on average you will have spent a total of about six years of it dreaming. Most people dream on average two hours every night, but you can have anywhere from four to seven dreams in one night. According to research, the most common setting for a dream is in your own house. In our dreams we can do anything we want and be whoever we want to be. Our dreams are an escape from reality. While we dream we are unable to control our actions and choose our surroundings. We let our minds take over. Sometimes dreams can be understood in the context of repressed thoughts. Dreaming serves as an outlet for those thoughts and impulses we repress during the day. When we go to sleep at night and slip into our dream state, we feel liberated and behave in a manner that we do not allow ourselves to in our everyday life. Visions and ides can come from your dreams. Often, authors, screenwriters, and even poets turn to their dreams for inspiration. The think quest oracle library goes on to tell about the most well-known of the modern dream
However, the true exact meaning of dreaming hasn 't been proven, there has been new ideas, different methods to advances to both a psychological, science understanding of when it began and how it functions. What some of the studies have concluded is that dreams are a certain phase of the brain 's activities, that the mind experiences while you are sleep; sounds, pictures, ideas, and feelings. Both psychologists and scientist have theorized that dreaming is made up of the person’s mind, that ranges from being rare, normal, scary, and ordinary.
Dreams are a series of thoughts, images, and sensations occurring in a person’s mind during sleep. Everyone dreams, whether they remember it or not. The real question is why some people remember their dreams and others do not? The art of remembering dreams is influenced by the first few minutes after waking, the health of a person, environmental, and biological factors. A person has a large impact on their ability to recall dreams along with what they dream about, even though many people do not know about this.
To many people, dreams are the thoughts that occur while sleeping, having almost mystic qualities. For millennia the significance of dreams has escaped even the brightest of philosophers and intellectuals. Many people have speculated about why people dream and what meanings the dreams have but in recent times two theories have gained credibility in answering those questions. The first theory is Sigmund Freuds and the other is known as the cognitive theory of dreams also known as biological determinism.
The idea of dreams telling the future is still hard to accept for some, but to others it is completely undeniable. Recent surveys have shown that “déjà vu is encountered more often than any of the other so-called mystical or paranormal experiences that have been studied” (Funkhouser). Happenings such as these have only been talked about recently not because they haven’t been around for long, but because society is finally starting to accept the idea that precognition can really exist. In a review of precognition in 1997, Barbara Brennan came to the conclusion that “it appears that there are really far more instances of precognition than is commonly realized. So many, in fact, that the phenomenon may be almost universal. The reason we are largely unaware of this is that most precognition occurs in dreams” (Funkhouser). It is not something that just happens to a select few, it is something that has occurred within all age groups, races and genders for centuries.
The mysterious traits of the dream have always mesmerized us. Known to depict the future or show a person’s hidden desires, dreams have aroused our curiosity. They have been used for different purposes throughout the history as well; renowned psychologist Sigmund Freud analyzed dreams to diagnose mental diseases, and Surrealism artists adopted dreamlike qualities within their pieces of art. Some people are known to be more sensitive to dreams and tend to remember them precisely when they wake up. I am one of those people as I tend to dream every day (most frequently, about driving) and can clearly create a mental image of the dream. I believe my dreams of driving a car depicts my desire to become an adult and is an accurate reflection of myself.
