The idea of not using any technology for a week is unpreferable. The technology that we use on a daily basis, is how we communicated with people outside of our own homes for the past seventy years. We talk to every with texting, and entertain ourselves with television, Youtube™, and Netflix™, we do homework on our computers, and we everything from google without Google. What rules the world? Is it a president or, is it a king or queen? Could it be hunger? Although these are all serious issues, what rules the world in technology. Technology is fast advancing and, the more it advances, the more we become addicted to it, not only addicted, reliant. More and more lately you will see a group of friends hanging out and, they aren't even talking to each other, they are all on their phones scrolling through social media or, playing the new and latest game. Technology today makes everyone so distracted. People spend more time texting, making phone calls, and streaming videos. We all know technology is a good thing, right? Or is it? We can all come up with reasons why technology is helpful or appropriate like we can for a particular medicine. And while some drugs are really great to cure or prevent a disease, sometimes the side effects outweigh any possible benefit. The same is true with technology. According to Felix Richter, in the article, “Americans Use Electronics Media11+ Hours a Day,” the average person uses technology for 11 or more hours each day. The human being is only awake for 16 to 18 hours a day. So, on average, a person uses 70% of their day on technology that is more than half the time we are awake and active during the day. This percentage increases 5% each year that means that in six years technology will occupy 100% the average humans’ active day.

We use technology to complete tasks in our daily lives. Humans have used technology to extend their abilities and knowledge. In this technology-based era, technology is included in everything we do, it is used at work, education settings, communication, and transportation.
