The book, The Pearl, written by John Steinbeck, talk about a family trying to save their sick child, while also finding an expense pearl everybody wants. The family has trouble trying to save their child and figure out what they do with this peal they have. The Pearl they find is very valuable and they have trouble keeping people away. Some of the people even try to steal the pearl. Even though some may say that The Pearl is too boring, it should be taught in schools because it makes people feel as if they were actually there and it gives real life examples. The book was written by John Steinbeck. John Steinbeck was born in California. He was the only boy out of his four siblings. Steinbeck studied at Stanford, but soon left to work as a reporter, in New York. Over the next several years he wrote many books which lead him to even greater fame. Some books of his include: Cup of Gold, The Pastures of Heaven, Grapes of Wrath, and Of Mice of Men. Grapes of Wrath won the Pulitzer Prize during in 1940. Steinbeck also served as a war correspondent. Even after many years later he still was writing. Some if his last books were Cannery Row, Burning Bright, and East of Eden. He published his last book in 1962 and also won the Nobel Peace Prize for Literature. Steinbeck died on December 20, 1968 at his home in New York City. Some people think The Pearl is too boring and not worth the read. The book does have some parts, especially in the beginning, where it starts off slow and nothing
