Many schools have been confronted with the issue of whether or not they should keep sports. Without sports programs, schools will be able to save both time and money that can be better applied to academics. Therefore, by eliminating sports, students will have more time for schoolwork, schools will have more resources for education, and children can get more sleep to stay focused during class.
Without the hours spent on after school sports, there is much more time available for completing homework more thoughtfully. According to Amanda Ripley, schools that cut the sports programs in the Premount Independence School District, had “80 percent of students passed their classes, compared to the 50 percent the previous fall” (10).
One reason we should keep school sports is because it benefits the mind and body. For example, in part two of the article, “No! Sports Are More Important Than Ever” states, “According to a 2013 report from the institute of medicine, physically active kids have more focus, are better problem solvers, and score higher on tests.” This proves that sports benefit the mind. After school many kids go straight home to their phones; however, with sports, after school they go straight into a fun, healthy activity that benefits the mind and body.
The AHSAA (Alabama High School Athletic Association) reports that a total of 90 home-school students have joined junior and high school athletic teams during the 2016-17 school year, with only 13 playing the marquee sport of football. Homeschooled kids should be allowed to play in public school sports. Everyone should be allowed a chance to prove themselves, no matter what. No matter where they are from, no matter what they do, no matter even if they are homeschooled! If this was you, not getting a chance to prove yourself. What would you do? Would you want to make your mark on the world?
For the past 50 years in America, schools have made it a tradition to play sports in schools. But schools have been crushing the future for their students because they allow sports in schools. While students and parents feel that sports in schools are appropriate and valuable, that is just simply not the case and schools have just gone too far. Schools should eliminate sports programs because sports programs put a financial burden on schools, getting rid of sports will increase in academics and students can get injured when playing sports.
After school sports are a big thing in America. Although students cherish these activities; numerous studies have shown that students get better grades if they drop out of sports. Therefore, schools should get rid of after-school sports because they are expensive, students will get better grades, and athletics is a distraction from school work.
To begin, school sports should be cut because they have a negative impact on academics. In Premont Independent School District sports were cut to improve grades. After a semester without sports the passing rate increased from 50% to 80%. As well, 100 more people attended the conferences (Amanda Ripley). Cutting sports improved grades greatly and it got more people involved in the school.
The importance and benefits of school sports have been questioned recently, a current article has showed that both students and schools have improved as a result of limiting athletic programs. Therefore, schools should get rid of sports to cut big costs, eliminate distractions from students and staff, and improve student academic achievement.
Sports, is a “death wish” for students who want to have good grades and a good education and not get distracted in their school, and home life. So, therefore schools don’t need to have sports because it can cause distraction to the students that are in a sport. It is quite evident that students should focus more on school then sports. During school days the coaches for the sport teams are focused on a plan for the next game, but the price will be high and they might not have the right amount of money. Therefore, schools need to focus more on their work then on a sport because a good education leads to a better life instead of being an athlete because you never know one day it will not work
With all the burdens they can create, after school sports can be a serious problem for academics. Although physical activity can provide exercise and entertainment; athletics are the main focus in most schools in America. Therefore, after school sports should be removed because the learning focus is left behind during athletics, students will have more free time to study, and money will be saved.
Schools should not cut sports because it keeps them focused in class to get better grades.A quote in the article “Should schools cut sports”,a quote states that” According to a 2013 report from the institute of medicine physically active kids have
Schools have been debating if they should get rid of sports in their districts, because they’re wondering if these extracurricular activities have been causing a problem for their students. While some scholars agree with this change most teachers are rejecting this change and want them to stay. Therefore, schools should have sports because they can help students relieve themselves of stress, kids can learn to work as a team, and children of all kinds can have equal opportunities to play them.
With sports, districts could struggle to get students to their highest level of education. It is easy to see that with no athletic activities, schools can save money, time, and students could focus on their academics. Therefore, it is essential that schools dispose of sports so they can thrive in the long run of
Sports are a great hobby and students should do them, but they also have many downsides. Schools should stop funding sports because they make other programs less productive, cause injuries, and very time consuming. This is proven in many cases of a serious injury due to a student playing a sport. Other school programs take a hard hit, thanks to funding that heavily favors sports programs. Sports also cause students to be less responsible, since they dedicate so much time to sports and not homework or studying.
Oh great. Another bad day at school. Good thing we have basketball practice, today, to ease my mind. This is how some people think about sports. However, some do not think the same. Therefore, middle schools are deciding on whether to keep sports the same way they have been or scale back some on sports. Principals and superintendents should not scale students back on sports because it helps them prosper in many ways.
“TOUCHDOWN!!” the crowd goes wild as the Huskies score the winning touchdown in the state championship with one second left to go home victorious. The next day everyone says “Wow, great game!” or “Way to go!” or other phrases along these lines to the football players. Now, imagine if this never happened, what if 10 minutes after school ends, all the lights, water, and heat or air conditioning turn off. Everyone goes home, does their homework, and that’s about it. No athletic teams after school due to budget cuts. Instead of running cross country, kids are training for marathons, instead of playing football, 5 star athletes are cooped up studying, and kids have no purpose to wear school logos or attire to cheer on their team.
Sports programs were introduced to US high schools in the 19th Century and today, these programs remain and have even gained popularity. The growing emphasis on the importance of these programs may be to the detriment of a student’s overall education. Students are more concerned about how they will perform on the sports field over how they are performing in the classroom. But has anyone ever considered, what might occur if these US high schools were to discontinue their sports programs? Would the schools and students benefit or be harmed by doing away with high school sports? If high school sports were eliminated in the US, the schools could reallocate sports funding toward the students, teachers and other academic programs. Student-athletes would have more time to time to be focused in school which could help them achieve better grades and test scores. Also, teachers would have more benefits such as higher pay, possibly fewer hours and students would be easier to teach.
